no it's not to thin i think it's back to the size of a m17 i could once again post the picte of it's cooling but i think i'll leave it dead for now
in short the m17x can be thiner and house dual GPU the question is did they do it or not
we read the article about the laptop heat throtteling and honestly i doubt it the journalist was not even capable of returning the macchine and tell us if it was CFX capable or not and they are making a diference between heat throtteling and what really makes dell's laptop throttle AKA thier terrible power consumsion limitator

I will reinforce your "it maybe possible" by noting that the "overheating in Crysis" was described as "the chipS were clearly overheating" (I'm doing that quote from memory). So there is a possibility that it's a dual card machine.
We'll know tomorrow. -
I sent an e-mail to Chris (one of the Dell AW reps on NBR) with the following questions:
-
Hopefully, that will give us hardcore gamers some good news.
I thank you for asking this for us Joker, i was going to do the same once the R3 was coming out but since you did i don't have to contact AW anymore for this. -

Lets just hope that Chris comes back with positive answers eh?

I got a reply back from Chris:

Well Dell is the one that brought us R2 so I wouldn't exactly say they're out to dissect AW into a profit only division. Sure they want profit, who doesn't but I would be very surprised if they outright ignored their core market for a quick buck. It's just not how they've operated all this time and as others pointed out, pre-Alienware Dell was still pushing the envelope with some high end gaming systems. -

So we're absolutely sure that the R3 is going to go on sale tomorrow with only a single card option?
-
I have confirmed it with a supervisor for a sale date of 1/10 if that helps any lol. No word on single GPU option only though.
-
R2 owners clutch those RGBLED's tightly. Looks like those are the last of their kind. WLED's from here on out it looks like.
Let's see how it goes. Certainly a few months is nothing much to wait and see. -
Further off topic posts will be removed and infractions will be handed out. This is not a thread to discuss rumors from another site.
Going to post this one more time...

Im gonna get up in the morning and just see what is and what isnt posted on AW UK website....im keen to know if its just 3d screen!
-
It looks thinner and smaller. If it has switchable graphics and a 6-7 hour battery life I will get one.
I'm glad that AW keep refining these designs rather than bringing entirely new ones. -

Guys, I hope this isnt off topic or against NBR rules but i put a thread up here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/546668-what-would-what-wil-you-do.html basically, to just get everyones vote.
Its a kind of thread where obviously harsh views arent gonna be tolerated so, if you DO wanna cast a vote on my poll, please feel free to drop by my thread and do so.
Obviously, constructive crticism of anything is always a good thing....isnt it? -
is there a big difference between RGB led and WLED?
-
Basically from what I can gather...RGB is more visually pleasing cause it's more vibrant and 'lifelike' with its colors.
-
Yes there is. -
hey when will the AW website show the new R3 just for curiosity? by the way nice rumours about the 18.4, with good thinking AW has a good year

Guys, the M17x R3 has been on Alienware site (US ) for the last couple of days - just not where you would expect. (sorry could not post earlier - would have helped with the whole R3/D3 thing). It is is the support section (driver download). Before you all rush to look, there is NOTHING at all listed - only that it is a product to choose for downloads. I guess it gives an indication that launch really is imminent.

Hmm... the only thing I see upgrading for IF the rumors are true is for the new processor.
-
Has anyone committed to buying an R3 yet? Would be great to hear some first hand details.
-
It's not released yet. A few more hours left...
-
how many more hours... what time is it in the US now?

Unless you have a way to get Dell to send him one for testing. Ive tried to figure out how to get test equipment for free but they dont send stuff to pee-ons. -
-
Second thought, they (Dell) should send a machine to the forum. Let us test and discuss and open conversation. It cant do anything but help AW and Dell to know what a cross section of their core buyers think and want. This isnt a Dell controlled forum so we could be open and honest.
And I mean to the users, some designated tester. Not the forum itself. -
is the r3 ready for order yet on the US website?

It's not released yet. Don't think there's no possibility of dual GPUs. And if there isn't, there's probably a damned good reason. Perhaps the 6970M they're using is more powerful than we're expecting? Or, who knows, maybe it's the first mobile dual GPU card? We can speculate on anything, really, but we won't know until later today.
All I know is I'm interested, single GPU or not. The 6970M will likely be more than powerful enough for me. -
Hi all.
Its up on alienware uk next to R2.
sandy bridge CPUs, 1600x900 WLED LCD as atandard screen, 1920x1080 WLEC LCD and 3d screen is an option, GTX460m with optimus is the ONLY graphics card atm,4GB of RAM as standard,9 cell battery,250GB HDD,Dell WiFi 1501 -N, £1799 with 2 tears warranty. -
and from the picture on the uk alienware site its clear that the back has only 2 vents on either sides.... hmmmm so designed to be single gpu based i guess...
-
My goodness, not even the 485m? On the main page, they said 6870m.
-
The UK site maxes the CPU option out at 2820 as well, no extreme processors. Anyway, because of how weak sauce the R3 is, I'm almost 100% certain we're going to see a new Alienware model that offers dual GPU support--be it M18x or some other variant of M17x. I wonder what reason Dell had to get rid of the silver color? Isn't the M11x offered in silver?
