Nice, pretty close to my scores, especially given thats a single GPU.
If I can find a way to upgrade my machine with two of those in the future, they're gonna fly!

nice run, scores are looking good so far. if the 6870 is anything like the 5850, then there should be a lot more room to oc.

are you planning any vantage runs???? i would love to see them

and what were the stock settings?

    stock @ 625/1000 1.0v

daily gaming @ 750/1050 1.0v could be higher but i like to keep my temps low.

    insane benching @ 985-995/1135 1.15v depending

you have to go higher on your voltage for higher stable clocks, but that involves flashing it.

but my 5850 could go as high as 850/1100 before i needed to up the voltage. but every card is different.

Surprise no. Interesting yes. I agree with Johnnobits here, interesting enough to note for certain.

I say this because there was a lot of smack talk about the amd card being better than the 460 card. While I am not into my dog is better than your dog garbage, it is interesting to see the 460 results v. the amd. There were a number of posts about the amd card being a slightly underclocked 5670 (sorry if I am screwing up the numbers) but that card owned a 460. At least that is what was being posted.

Now that we have actual (if not limited quantity) benchmark numbers with the R3 on a sandybridge ( which we never had before!), these results are comment worthy for certain.

Nice work sailor and thanks for posting those results, glad your having fun with your new R3.

If by results you mean benchmark results, there are only two examples I am aware of with the same CPU. USShelfire with his amd and texasrho (sp?) with his 460M, who both oc'ed their processors.

Texas was in the low 16K's and the sailor was in the high 15K's (15790) with 3D Mark 06. Lots of variables with small sample size but this is the best we got as it were.

imho, both cards would gave similar performance in gaming. but most amd cards have the potential to oc very high, which is good for benching.

Johnnobts posted this: I presume he has the 27xx cpu and 460M
    Using 3DMark 2006:

Mine at stock was around 14400.
    Overclocking 817/1634/1309 I get 16682

Not sure, but have you been able to OC the cpu yet? Is it possible with these i7 chips?

nope. i have no idea on how to OC the cpu. and i also have no idea if its possible to OC. im waiting for mandrake/dangerclose or for the more experiance guys to test that out. LOL. and at the moment, im very happy with its performance, so dont see any need to OC it.

yap, as for the GPU ocing, i made the mistake of raising both the core and memory clock speed by the same amount at the same time. resulting in it crashing when the memory clock got too far. noob mistake i guess.

currently in the process of finding its max core speed before i proceed on with max memory clock.

P.S. my dell rep has just gotten back to me, and had agreed to do an exchange on the GPU. a tech will be sent down to exchange my 6870 with a 6970! WOOT! so will be ocing like hell before it gets exchange :D

he also asked if the chipset was giving any problem(seems that dell is ackowledging the fact that the chipset is faulty) and enquire if i would like to return my R3 now, or get a replacement mobo in future when its avaliable.

i of cos chose to keep it and get a replacement in future. cant bear to part with this machine.

Unless you plan on getting another HDD anytime soon (before the warranty expires :)) I would just keep it. If you could do some game benchmarks with the 6970M that would be awesome, I think you will be one of the first to get it :).

How much $ is the upgrade from 6870 to 6970?

Also, what's the number you called to get that kinda service? I might be interested in the upgrade/return myself.

    Thx!

    The upgrade cost $500 sgd.

I only called my sales rep who sold me my r3.
Basically just told her that the r3 is still under the 30 days return period.
And instead of dell incurring more cost by returning the r3.
They can just send a tech down to replace the gpu.

Also, if I return the product and don't get a replacement, my rep won't get her commission on the sale.

Current rate is $1usd equals $1.3sgd.

But remember that the 460 is a $75usd upgrade from the 6870.
But here, its a $300sgd upgrade.

No idea what the part number is.

guys, any other software i can use to OC other the MSI after burner?
i need one thats built for ATI cards, thus cant use EVGA precision.

i managed to OC my core clock up to 860. and its still running stable and very cool. however, MSI afterburner doesnt allow me to increase the core clocks beyond 860...

You may not have any OC tools when it comes out, when new top end cards come out it takes a few weeks to get the OC products to support them :( the ones BlackestNight21 listed some good chances though.
