usshellfire, the vantage Run was with or with out physics from Nvidia active? (they help the cpu during cpu test if activated)

Possibly. The others are pretty old as well. I don't know, just thinking of resources you could try. I used rivatuner once upon a time.

    Here's a slightly updated version from 07

    ATi Tool 0.27 b2

AMD GPU Clock Tool is probably your best bet of those, Rivatuner is updated often but pretty confusing and doesn't always work.

Probably just need to wait for an update to one of the programs, I know there are ways to edit the .cfg file for Afterburner and Precision to allow for more OC room just can't remember how. The 6XXXm series is still new so it'll take a few weeks to see updates to the programs. I would say Afterburner is the best updated.

configured cgf file. and now max core clock is at 880. LOL 1 20 mhz improvement. but had a few artifacts while testing for stability. so highest core is at 870. seems that is the max i can go without flashing the bios.

wow looks like you got a beast in your hands. i think you'll be able to break 10 gpu if you flash the card.

just remember that these high clocks are only for benching, even it it looks stable i wouldn't game with them.

If you're getting artifacts at 880 odds are even flashing the vbios won't help, ocasionally flashing the vbios to higher voltage will help but usually the artifacts is general instability on the card at that point flashing will make it worse.

Artifacts are typically memory being too high, not core. Core too high will just crash the driver or bsod

Better cooling (liek chest freezer or AC) can help with artifacts as well (due to the additional cooling the ram receives)

maybe i used the wrong word. in GPUtool, there's this function to test for stability? at 864/1123 im getting "pixel error"

    does that count as artifacts?

was just following the guide that blackestnight provided.

    So it'd be ~$385 if I'm doing the math correctly (1USD = 1.3SGD, so 500/1.3=385).

How on earth you got 10K+ Vantage on single 5850 and I got close to 13K on dual 5870  You must be kidding right?

    Wanna trade the lappies? :p

Edit: And am I reading that 6870 do 10K -12K range in Vantage? That's WOW!!!

    Didn't know XFX 5870 can do 18K+ either :D

Doesn't Catalyst Control Center include Overdrive, the built-in o/c utility, with the drivers for the 6870? It has become very convenient and effective for most recent AMD cards.

It only appeared (or was activated for installation) late in 2010, though some later reported it as early as the Mobility 10.8 set. Most of us first got it with the 10.12's, and it required some cleanup for previously o/ced systems before it would install.

Damn. Do you think they'll let me swap/refund the 460m for the 6870? I'm really disappointed by the 3hour battery life on the igp+460m in igp-mode.

    EDIT: @Usshellfire,

Hey bud, did you have wireless on or off during your battery life screenshots? Kunekaden turned his wireless off and got 5 hours, as opposed to 4hours with it on. For your reference: http://forum.notebookreview.com/7123209-post1506.html

Looks like 10.12 from what I found, I wonder if the hotfix 11.1a drivers would work with it? Really starting to look like you may need to either flash your vbios or wait for updates to OC programs to get any more of an OC out of your card :(

@ dookie11, i used it yesterday for net surfing, with min brightness, alienFX on, wifi on, and powersaving. i was able to use it for around 4hrs and 30 mins before it hit around 10%.

so im guessing that if i had alienFX off, i might be able to hit 5 hours.
with wifi off as well, it will hit 5 hours. but then, my laptop will just become a paperweight since it wont be able to access the net...

overall, the battery life on this monster is awesome, as long as you change it to the IGP. what other 17inch laptop can sustain a battery life of 4.5 hours...

Hm, in your first post on this thread, you said 50% brightness, alienfx ON, high performance power option, and wireless ON = 5hours on IGP.

But now you're saying something slightly diff...can you clarify?

    Thanks for your help!

    both post are correct.
last test i did was only yesterday night and those are the functions that were present at time of usage last night.
i know that for a fact as i just started up my R3 and those are the exact same settings.
the screen shot on the first post is the windows estimate when the laptop is at idle. and with constant web browsing usage, to only lose 30 mins, i would say that it was a very good run.
always keep in mind that the windows estimate is afterall, only an estimate. and real life usage on powersaver, min brightness, alienFX on and wifi on already gives me 4hrs and 30 mins of usage.
