My brightness controls worked fine before when I was running 11.10. Didn't even know there was an issue!
As for my current problems, I have tried everything suggested and more. Still getting BSOD when launching any game.
It is format time me thinks. Damn you AMD!
-
I don't see any reason to even try the 11.11 at this point. Just wait for Skyrim CAP/patches. I'm still on the 11.9 and not gonna bother...

I feel DD 11.10 with CAP 1 for 11.11 improved BF3 stuttering. Even at FPS of 50+ frame I get stuttering at random times. but now its much better.
And no its not lag, that is completely different. You can easily tell the difference between the too. A lag pause is more pronounced and longer. -
Have an M18x with BSOD when 11.11 installed, but I did a frankendriver install. I basically installed 11.11 fresh. When it rebooted I went to safe mode. Expanded the 11.10 package with 7-Zip (the greatest of all freeware compression utils). Grabbed the 11.10 atikmdag.sy_ file out of it and used the expand command on it. Inserted it to the system32/drivers folder and overwrote the 11.11 version of the file. Works great. I basically have 11.11 everything installed with a 11.10 atikmdag.sys file. When you guys say does brightness work are you talking about in the ccc desktop color section? Thanks.

That file is the main file to drive the whole driver environment for AMD's cards, so this method will not yield the driver improvements 11.11 is supposed to offer. CAPs on the hand can be mixed and matched.

ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.11 display drivers for notebook computers (15/11/2011) - Page 6 -
Reading around there are people using these drivers and working on them without problems, although they have other issues with other specific games. But no BSODs getting into windows.
This is getting interesting. And no word from AMD about crashing 11.11 as if its not a real problem at all but just for us folks.
M17x R3 users seem to be using these or am I wrong on that? -
Another one to add to the bsod list. This is truly pathetic, the last two months of drivers have been unusable. On the nvidia side, everything is going swimmingly with both beta and whql.
At this point I'd rather 560m's in my amd machine, at least they get driver updates and support the latest games. I really hope they step up their game next year or these are the last amd gpu's I ever own.
The 6990's and 6970's are epic gpu's but without fast and solid driver updates, they are as good as an uncooked egg.
Every damn time I switch to ati I got burned by great hardware and bloody awful drivers combo they love to deliver. I should really learn my lesson but I keep trying to not have a tech bias. -
I think it is mainly us mobility users that are getting shafted.
-
It’s definitely NVidia for me from now on be it desktop or laptop, even if it's not good value for money I know I'll be getting quality.
First time I've gone AMD with cfx 6990m's and so far I've been far from impressed.
Sticking with 11.10 till AMD sort themselves out. -
-
AMD should do the same as NVidia does: they infiltrated a guy to work on drivers on AMD... hahahhahaha
-
Sorry for intruding
Add me to the list of BSOD.... I'm pretty sure it's CFX related with CCC.

Will 11.11 work well with non-dual 6990m? Have anyone tried yet?

From what I can gather all mobility crossfire configurations are affected, single cards are good (some dude benched with a single 6990m on 11.11 so I guess its working).
The latest driver issue and the absence of a cap file for Skyrim is pathetic to say the least for AMD. -

Usually its like this
11-11_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
You might have gotten something that only has
11-11_mobility_vista_win7_64_ccc_ocl.exe
This means DD which is Display Driver is not in the package. AMD has these custom packages in their direct links, so have to be careful while using the direct link from the forums.
Here's a proper link for the ones with everything in it for the 11.10 drivers

Jeez I'm not going to even bother. Can't wait until my 580Ms arrive so I can be done with this AMD fiasco.
-
Same BSOD problem on my M17x R2 with dual 6970m's. Was a ***** to get 11.10 reinstalled. Driver sweeper in safe mode didn't do the whole trick. Had to **** with the registry. Been doing this for the last 3 hours. Got it working now but, this was awful.

how did u get 2 x GTX580?
I want to get rid of my 6990m they are garbage! -
Chalk up another one to the 11.11 BSOD Club.
Everything I tried failed. I uninstalled the CAP, rebooted, uninstalled all AMD software, rebooted, uninstalled the drivers and deleted the files, rebooted, installed 11.11 and it still crashed. Unbelievable.
Oddly enough, 11.10 + 11.11 Cap1 works just fine. -
11.11 s.u.c.k... BSOD..trid 2 times, I am glad I did not try to reinstall OS for 11.11, roll back to 11.10 + 11.11 cap1. So far so good, AMD ... I am really looking forward to install Nvidia card on my R2.
-
Most people with CFX 6970 or 6990's are having issues. Very odd... Missing file related to CFX configuration?
-
which config of drivers it's besto for Battlefield 3?
I'm playing with 11.10 and no CAPs profile.
Which version are you running?
Thank you! -

When the drivers work they work bloody well. I just hope AMD gets better at producing drivers within say the first week or so of a launch title.
Although I am tempted to build another desktop with GTX 460 SLI (Since I already have one on my desk). Then I will have a system that "should" work if anything goes horribly sideways where I can't play my game.
I like NVidia because drivers are easy and hardware works. I like AMD because hardware works and it's a good price in comparison. That's pretty much my take in a nutshell. -

I'm still running 11.8
-
Geeee I'm not going to even bother with 11.11 for now. I guess I will just need to wait for Dells new AMD driver update.
11.2 CAP is out as well.
Cheers. -
i guess we will have to wait for 11.12
-
Do you have tried 11.2's cap in battlefield3?
-
HELP! I tried the 11.11 (stupidly), and like everyone else BSOD. Except I cannot roll back!
I am currently in Safe Mode, and I cannot uninstall or install anything because I get a message "Failed to load detection Drivers".
Then Closes the install.
I am at a loss... does anyone know how to get around this so I can roll back to 11.10?? -
-
Go to device manager (start, right click computer > properties > device manager)
Show your display adapters, right click on each and uninstall.
Then reboot and uninstall your ATI graphics drivers. -
I BSOD'ed but I didn't even have to uninstall
The AMD driver wasn't even showing up on add/remove programs when I went into safemode, so I just ran driver cleaner, got rid of all AMD displays, rebooted, and reinstall prior driver. -
in safe mode, go to device manager, and disable both gpu's, then restart like normal and uninstall..... thats what i had to do...
