After mucking around with a lot of drivers, and even formatting my machine I have found that 11.9 + 11.11 CAP2 work really well for both BF3 and Skyrim. Albiet I have to alt tab out and back in again after every loading screen for Skyrim to up the crossfire GPU utilisation...

Hopefully a Skyrim CAP will improve the performance and also fix the annoying alt tab bug.

Well, CAP2 doesn't actually cover Skyrim but it seems to work ok and both GPU's get used heavily.

There is still an issue which I do not think is related to crossfire and that is the drop in GPU utilisation and a maxing out of the CPU in certain environments. Either this is because it is a console port, or they need to release a patch to better optimise the engine.

Try turning off vsync and also some of the other tweaks mentioned here:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim tweaks improve graphics, disable Vsync, change FOV and more | PC Gamer

Bumbo2, I had a copy on my laptop, sorry :(

Zombini, I constantly monitor my temps and such using HWINFO32 and I can see that the second card is running 3D clocks and GPU utilisation is around the same on both cards.

I can't tell you exactly what my FPS is, but it is smooth enough to play with ultra settings, water set to reflect objects and shadows set to ultra.
Both AA and Anisotropic filtering set to 4 (as ultra turns one of these off, can't remember which one)
Don't get me wrong though, I do still get slowdowns...

I still have to alt tab out and back in after EVERY loading sequence. I would recommend that you give this a shot if you having problems. You have to alt tab in twice as well, first time just gives you a black screen.

    Damn buggy game.

EDIT:: Oh another thing that helps, is set the processor priority to high for the TESV process. This actually made a difference. I created a litte bat file that I run which automatically does this. I think I used ' start /high 'TESV.exe' ' and made it a .bat in the root directory of the game....but I will need to check this when I get home as I am trying to remember what I did whilst at work :p

    Hey guys.

    M17x-R2 here with 2 HD5870M's.

The 11.11's have caused me to BSOD, like quite a few others here it would seem. I thought clearing them out and reverting back to 11.10 would "sort" it, but now my 11.10 install either gives me an INF error during install or just BSOD during install.

I go through the usual safe mode-control panel-manage-driver uninstall, driver sweeper, ccleaner process as most here, to no avail. Would seem as though 11.11 has left a lasting mark!

Any and all help getting my system back up and running would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

edit:- I really hope formatting the entire system isn't the way to fix this :O ... oh AMD, /shakeshead

Download Trixx software, under settings, disable ULPS.
make sure you check next to "Load on Windows Start up"
it tends to improve the performance on crossfire for me, give it a shot :)

Np Zombini! Glad you are enjoying it :)

You can also disable ULPS via the registry, thus not having to run a 3rd party app.

    Hey Mate,

Had the same troubles here. My issue turned out that it was because my cards were undervolted, so something to consider if this is the case.

If not, there has been quite a few bits of advice given here and there but it seems to be trial and error until you get it working.

I would uninstall the cards from device manager and make sure to tick the delete driver box. Then express uninstall all AMD stuff, driver sweep and even CClean the registry, which you seem to already have done!

I found that even 11.10's gave me an issue after 11.11 were installed and I had to roll back to 11.9's

Read back a little in this thread as there has been some other advice given such as installing Dell drivers first.

Same here with my M17x-R2 here with 2 HD5870M's. As soon as the new driver detected the display it goes BSOD , totally mess .I even made a full system restore back to 11.10 then I uninstalled
all ATI drivers from system, complete uninstall and then try to install 11.11 ,same thing as mentioned before as soon as the driver starts to detects the HW/Display it bumps to BSOD .
Now I'm back once again with system restore and made a full 11.10 installation and I dont dare to touch11.11 at least not this one that was downloaded from ATI using the ATI driver tool .
I didn't see such driver behavior I think from the R7500 era or maybe even before that in a loooong long time.

    Hey Douse. Appreciate your advice.

I couldn't get the 11.10's or 11.9's to work again (BSOD on reboot), even after going back to the Dell's first. The only way I got my system back up and running again was to use the "modded" drivers linked over in a thread over on the M17x forums {I must remember to thank OP}.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...rs-horrible-bsod-somewhat-workaround-now.html

MURc, I suggest you try them out too since you and I have the same system.

From reading the linked thread over at GURU3D, it would seem that the guy who modded the drivers is reputable and his handiwork is safe to use. I can testify to this. In fact, BF3 runs better now than ever! {although far from perfect - that stutter still hits ever now and again, but I suspect that this really is a fault with the game, not drivers}.

ANYWAY - problem solved (for now!) Thanks to everyone on the forums for their help.

    ... /sigh... AMD... /shakehead.

well I know GURU3D I used to be mod there before the original GURU3D was sadly turned off by the founder few years ago although the site came back again in a while I never got there back as I used to be befor but my account is still alive .I trust GURU3d and people who post drivers there however I use my R2 for video editing as well so I dont want to lose HW acceleration for my video editing tools . Maybe I wouldn't but mostly gamers optimized drivers doesn't care much bout VIDEO HW acceleration for aps . I decided to wait another release from ATI or a hot fix as this issue is major . Thanks for the advice never the less and it is very much appreciated :D
What I noticed in this thread over by GURU regarding this drivers (performance one) is the new tab with different options selectable for Xfire maybe this is acutely causing the problems with some systems and mcards.
