Alienware M18x - Prepare to deploy Star Wars TOR

That's a good suggestion, but it's a wired connection (laptop sits like five feet from the router).

The thing that's making me scratch my head is that this is the only application that I have connectivity issues with, and I suspect it has something to do with dropped packets. I set my laptop in my router's DMZ, so that should've resolved any routing issues (theoretically), but no joy.

Hoping Bioware finds a root cause soon.

if its a Bioware issue I hope they resolve it but I am not convinced. Other than you I have not heard of anybody else having this issue but truth be told I only visit the forums here since bioware's forum is blocked from my work proxy

 

I was constantly getting Error Code 9000 and figured out the firewall in McAfee was causing my issue. Removed it and installed Norton and so far everything is working fine.

 

I know you probably paid for Norton and all, but McAfee and Norton are probably the worst things you can do to your computer, right next to pouring hot chocolate straight on the motherboard.

I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It works. It's lightweight and unintrusive. It's free.

 

+1 to mse as ive never had an issue with it. I installed AVG free just to test for a bit and it seems to work great as well

 

Hey everyone, Ive been out of the loops for awhile. Had some business. anyway I'm back. Let me know whats going on.

 

Rolling along, leveling up and enjoying the story lines. One or two patches a week from Bioware.

My kids go on Youtube and watch clips of flashpoints and boss fights and while I can't turn away (my bad) it makes playing a bit anticlimatic a the end of a hard fought battle. I fought Revan last night, and for anyone who read any of the books or does a bit more than just watch the 6 movies, it was cool how bioware worked it into the story line here.

Chat with oni everyother day online as a "friend" but have not seen stomachus around like due to hardware issues. Come join the guild Matrix!

I love the plot! Also I did the Flashpoint that had HK droid! To the people who played the previous KOTOR games will know that the HK (Human Killer) droid was the most fun droid ever!

Also check out the latest RedRancor.com video tip if you have someone playing with a lesser laptop (or impaired Alienware, stomachus). Putting the program in XP3 compatibility mode gives a big boost for vista & w7 users.

 

Just out of curiosity, is there really any point in enabling CFX on this game?

Seems like the only thing you get is more graphics bugs and glitches (Like the floors and walls disappearing in huttball on occasion). The frame rate doesn't appear to be any faster.

 

I finally got everything fixed and im running at 100% biggest issue now is a latency problem but thats an isp issue not a computer one.

 

Been running crossfire on 1x1 since pretty much day 1. Haven't noticed any problems 12.1 preview drivers with a custom profile. Haven't got around to updating to 12.2 preview.

 

Usually mmo price drops down significantly after release and eventually they go to either dirt cheap or free (with microtransactions). I am happy that this game is still close to its original price.

PS: Gamestop and bestbuy still sell it for full price.

 

1x1 was working fine for me at first, but after an hour or so it seemed like some effect on screen would cause me to randomly lose 1/2 the textures and surfaces in the game based on my camera angle.

Seems like switching to a single card removed all the flickering, micro stutters and missing texture/surface issues I was having and I lost nothing in the way of frame-rate or quality really.

It's a shame the engine is only dx9 and doesn't really utilize or optimize any features that would make it looks and perform better for people with high end machines.

 

Ya for 8 or 16xAA I have to run both cards, but for sheer smoothness the single card and 4xAA works flawlessly. There supposedly a new CAP in the works according the the CatalystCreator twitter feed.

 

Yeah, that would be great. Hoping he can squash the oddball bugs. It would be nice to use 16xAF and 8XAA with no slowdown.

I was advised to post here.
As u can see by my sig I have the m17x.
I would like to know best set up for playing swtor as I've noticed about every 10 mins or so my laptop slows right down and that sucks when u have just pulled alot of mobs.
I have 1xgpu for dedicated to physix and using 285.62 drivers
In game yes I have res set to max. I have tried lower but it looks poo.
So I've had to turn down the other gpu settings in game like shadows to low etc and disabled v sync.
So not sure if there is anything else I can do? I can hear my gpu's fans at full and my laptop sits on a nzxt laptop stand with the stands fans on full.

Any constructive feedback is always welcome

ive seen the temps they are high approx 60 to 70oc
i was about to run throttlestop but cos i dont really know what it is, i am worried to run it as it tells me that it could damage my hardware ??

I gotta say I like my commando A LOT more for PvP than I like my sith warrior. I seem to be able to kill more enemies and I can heal my teammates if needed as well.

Yeah, HK-47 I saw in a trailer for SWTOR a few months back, so that was already ruined for me so I can't get the GPUz info.

Which reminds me, I have an issue with the game, but I'll have to ask when I get home since I don't have my laptop with me.

Yeah I dropped my Jedi and I am loving my Sith Sorcerer. They are due for a nerf because the side with the most Sorcerers always wins in pvp.


Healing CCing and stunning none stop = win!

Eventually I will play all classes to 50 just so that I can see the plot behind each class.

I am so impressed by the story line that I cannot wait to get all classes to 50.

 

Jedi shadow ... nothing says pvp like stabbing someone in the back.

 

haha ill prob end up with a stealth class eventually, but they seem easy to be.

 

Since I took the sorcerer route I won't be doing shadow (they have the same plot line). I will do one of each main tree so a total of 8 lvl 50's.

Next is Bounty hunter then Sniper. Then Sith tank and then going to the light side!

 

I wanted a Sniper just because of the name, but the cover mechanics kind of puts me off. I have a wasted gunslinger on Rep that I can't bear to play.

So far the two flavours of consular are my class of choice. Pvp wise the shadow is more fun, pve wise the sage can solo anything with 2 points to speed up the slow heal spell.

From what I have heard the sniper is the highest DPS class out there. That's the only reason I want it.

As far as PVP shadow can cheat by hiding in hutball on the other side and get easy xp while sorcerer is hax. You can kill anything easily. You can pretty much none stop stun people and when that fails bind them then stun again. Not to mention they put out HUGE amounts of dmg both as DoT and as spike.

Throw healing into the mix and you have a hax class.

 

Thinking republic smuggler after bounty hunter next.

Been doing and learning the synth weaving crew skill to make armor and stuff.

Agree with ONI on the sorc power but what does hax mean?

Just got an aurora r3 delivered today for my office rig to roll at lunch break, when I get them. Stats are obscene so hope high Rez graphics from beta and cut scenes return to regular game, as others are whining about on the swtor forums.

Hax is the equivalent of cheating sorta.

 

I am flush with materials from treasure hunt and underworld missions... Can u weave triple digit stuff as all my stuff is mid high 90s rating currently?

right now on my commando im working on atm, I have scavenging, armortech, and Slicing and I think I'm gonna do something similar for my sith Juggernaut . Slicing is nice because it basically gets me free, easy, money.

 

I don't need material but if you want specific gear just bring me the material and ill make it for you. Also keep in mind that you have a chance to make a high quality item aka an item with higher stats but its skill depended so if you want a skill 400 item its rare to make it a HQ.

Slicing used to be hax for money but it got nerfed. Still its great for making money!

 

I might have to learn slicing. I have my eye on a $50,000 credit speeder plus the level 40 250,000 credits to learn the advanced speeder. Has not been worth the 10% speed improvment unless flush with credits...

 

its easy grinding for me. I just send my companions out when im off doing something else and forget about it till they get back with money.

 

What is the "payoff ratio" like tony? How much for the mission v. how many credits you profit for slicing?

 

I want that Specialty vendor 1.5mil credits speeder.

I also bought the Dark 5 affinity speeder for 50k.


I like having a plethora of speeders to choose lol I get bored easy.

 

Funny that my boys showed me that $1.5 million speeder on youtube this morning!

I have been doing overtime at work so i have not played for a few days.

 

when I send my guys off ingame, im making around 1k every 10-15 minutes and im only about 200/400 so far. should get even better with time
