Alienware M18x - Prepare to deploy Star Wars TOR

Ya I have a feeling sorc and shadow (and counterparts) will be leveled out shortly. As long as the play style remains more or less constant I'm cool with that. Although to be honest it "feels" like my sorc is less powerful than my shadow in pvp but only lvl 3x on both so who knows.

 

lvl your shadow in pvp by doing huttball and hiding on the enemy location and
play the story mode with your sorcerer.

 

I find it more annoying to spam guard on whoever has the ball on our side or just stunning and running the rest of the time. People tend to gun for you pretty fast when you do that =P

 

How do you toggle the third "move button" toolbar verticle on the left side of the screen. Mine is there but my boy cannot get his to toggle and he needs to keep scrolling the lower double toolbar? Anyone?

 

had a great time earlier with my sith warrior and PvP. At first I kept dieing and I was getting annoyed, but if you get a good healer and use the guard thing, you can do a whole lot of damage.

 

As many of us as possible should meet up at the Imperial Fleet today at 6pm EST and get a "daily" pvp mission, they go enmass to pvp on the same team. I have not yet done it but we can guild pvp apparently...

 

i've seen it and its pretty fun, it sucks when you play pre-made guilds though as they smoke just about everybody.


Just a note, if you are having FPS issues during intense combat, make sure you have windows set to high performance and not battery-saver as it causes the processor to bottleneck. I figured that out the hard way

Temp diversion. A level 50 asked me to join her guild to help me learn synth weaving and other make my swtor life easier stuff. I shall return!

I am not sure how to get everyone "on the same page". Once our characters mature to level 50 we might be best aligned to work together?

You WoW folkes have more experience with guilds and long term managment...

 

Only played a bit of wow and then i personally got bored. But im thinking once some of hit 50 we can start some more active recruitment and see who is interested ingame? Just a thought

 

Does anyone else have sudden performance drops? I can be running the game at 80-100 fps then suddenly something will happen (usually during combat) and my framerate will take a dive into the low 20's and high teens, until it equalizes at a very glitchy and unstable 30 fps.

I ran GPU-Z, the main GPU gets up to 91°, but has stayed in that area for several minutes, and both GPUs hover at between 55 and 60% utilization (6990M CFX)

I've got 12.1 official + 12.1 CAP 2 installed

 

Hey Dr, invite my bounty hunter alternate character to the guild. Her name is Onihime or was it Oni-hime crap i think the first one.

As far as Synthweaving you have me at lvl 400 and I have all the synths for it (I spent about 900k credits for them). Save your money and do another craft. Maybe go to making lightsabers?

 

make sure you aren't running in battery saving mode or the CPU will bottleneck

as to crew skills, my warrior is only working on slicing atm, so if there is a certain demand for a skill(such as armor building or something) ill be happy to do it.

What r the synths? I never broke 200k credits so 900k is ridiculous .

Acquiring mucho gems and fabrics from treasure hunt and underworld....meet up with me 2 inspect and see what you can improve with synth weave. I will give u materials.

Funny, just learned about that light saber skill yesterday and told one of my boys to go that route but if you will crunch the weaving then I will get 400 lvl in sabers...

Enjoying Voss story now...And will do on the alt. invite 2morrow.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Tips for Graphical Performance:

Tip #1:
Compatibility Mode for Windows XP -
Right Click on the SWTOR short cut. Go to Properties. Then the Compatibility Tab. Select the Run this program on compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Also select: Run as administrator. Apply changes.
This makes a world of difference on laptops.

Tip #2:
Disable Visual Themes and Desktop Composition -
Right click on desktop. Select Personalize.
Scroll down to Basic and High Contrast Themes
Select Windows Classic. Hit Apply Changes.
This may take a while to apply those changes. Then you can see how much the Windows look has changed over the years.

Tip #3:
Disable GPU scaling in the control panel
Adjust desktop size and position to no scaling.
You can do this from your AMD (ATI) control panel or your NVidia control panel. I'm at work right now, so I can't look at where the settings are.

Most of these tips should help that graphics related lag problem until Bioware optimizes their graphics. But this makes the game playable for me.

Some of these fixes have been suggested, but some haven't just thought I would share them. Thanks to iglaze for putting this together.

 

What's the XP3 compatibility mod? Running swtor.exe in XP compatibility mode?

I will try the XP compat mode but I really don't have any issues running the game.

 

Same here but using the control, shift, F shortcut for FPS on the bottom left in green, there is a significant improvment most noticable on imperial fleet for example in large crowed areas. About 10FPS noted for me FYI.

This really helped my old office computer using an AMD 4670 gpu, ran all max settings in the 30's afterward and was not playable on all max before hand.

Hmm I will try it. I usually never lag anywhere except imperial fleet. The FPS go from 60 to 20ish there. Keep in mind I use Vertical sync so I cap at 60.

 

I get between 30-50 fps at the imperial fleet and i use v- sync as well. Wonder why the the fps is aso crappy there.

 

too many users imo. Think about it so many custom models for your pc to render and load. All those gears and movement from all those users.

 

ah that makes sense. Got bored and started a sith inquisitor and the story line so far is pretty awesome. I might have to start playing it more often

XP Compatibility mode just breaks the game entirely for me. Crashes before it gets to the character selection screen. /sigh

Looks like I'll be playing the game in 20 minute stretches, quitting every time the framerate dumps to 20 and below.

 

Do you have the 580m's? You could be having the throttleing issues if you do.

 

I did XP compat mode and I saw absolutely no difference on my machine.

 

Same for me, and Dr. J i automatically got logged off so i didnt see it. My sith sorcerer is named broski.

 

No I've got the 6990Ms and Bios version A05. My problem is totally independent of GPU temps, as I was just playing and the framerate crapped out while the GPUs were just starting to get warm (70°!)

Anyone know which companions are best for Artifice crafting? None list it on the bottom right of their companion profiles for Sorcerer.

 

I could use a list of all the companion's crafting stats. The one listing I found had every possible info on companions BUT the crafts.

I would suggest you get something that increases critical chance over plain skill.

Skill means you will fail less on a synth, critical chance means you will make more rare items more often.

 

Apparently ~6 months of dust buildup was enough to cause my main GPU to reach temperatures of 91 - 92° and start throttling. I opened up my laptop and vacuumed out the fans and heatsinks, now I just played SWTOR for about 45 minutes and didn't see any temp over 73°, nor did I notice any slowdown.

I guess one just has to be extra watchful of dust buildup on a laptop in comparison to a desktop machine...

I would go for it, but I need to level up some more lol, just got to tatooine, but i still need to do some leveling before im back where im supposed to be. I some how outpaced the storyline and am like 4 levels behind.

 

my main is lvl 47, I got my Darth title and finished all the story so now I am playing on my bounty. She is lvl 19 currently

As for the gear next time you see me right click on my picture and go to more options then see all the gear I can synth.

It will show you the gear and synth materials needed.

hi all

I still have that problem where my laptop slows badly for a few secs.

what I have done is remove throttle stop cos it wasn't helping, went into bios and enabled pce gen2 (and yes the main and hybrid are off due to lappy crashing during vids and games) and reduced my rez to something like 1700 to 900 ish with all adv settings to low.

I don't seem to have this slow issue atm but is this normal on a sli 280m's ???

I thought these gpu's can do better ??
