1200? 1920 by 1200p? Doesn't make much a of difference to 1920 by 1080p gaming.Thats not something I would call as 'higher' resolution just a slight change in aspect ratio.
Now try that with 2560 by 1600. That's another story. I 'd like to see people play every title out there now and in the future at 2560 by 1600p with playable frame rates. I'll wish them good luck in advance.

All I know is I'm taking my dual 460M GTX and Ultra'ing the f*ck out of BF3.
It should still run it well enough on a damn 18.4'' monitor. I would've got the 560m or the ATI but I don't live in the US and I could only get my hands on that one, and I'm beyond happy with it.
If I lag I'll lower the graphics settings.. -
well, id still love to hear from the general community on how their lappy performs. -
You can read all about here http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/598490-who-got-battlefield-3-alpha.html
The situation is not so bleak. Infact there is no such rule that says any good looking engine has to be a resource hog. It may well be in the end but if it isn't that should not come as a surprise. It would only show how good DICE's programmers are in developing an engine that is very efficient in delivering great visuals with as many frames as they can crank out on mainstream systems. -
good news everyone! the recommended specs of gtx 560 ti or AMD 6950 is for high settings!
us 6990m and 580m mgpu owners might be able to run it on ultra! -

Mharidas speaks the truth. 2560 by 1600 is a crazy number of extra pixels. It is almost a MOOT point considering 1900 x 1080 is plenty given the screen size; makes a difference. Playing a notebook on a monitor like that is POINTLESS unless you are playing sourced based games. Just get a desktop with SLI if you plan on playing at that resolution. Multiply the pixels and you QUICKLY see where the processing power of the GPU's will go.
On notebooks, the key to "eye candy" is to play at Native resolution. I would rather LOWERE settings than play "Max" at non-native resolution as that dramatically lowers IQ (image quality).
Now here is my HOPEFUL prediction; this game should run better than Crysis 2. I THINK this is an Nvidia made game and I HOPE they don't drop tons of money into the makers of BF3 to implement DX11 in a way to lower performance on Radeon/AMD chips like they did in Crysis 2.
I am thinking this game will be MUCH more optimized than the rush job DX11 crysis patch job for "ultra." Therefore, since this game will run "ultra" (or whatever it's called) out of the box; the game has gone through the major testing. I run an OC'ed CF6970 in my m18x and Crysis at certain points can get pretty shaky. I don't think that will be the case for BF3; at least in campaign. Now a huge battlefield in MP.....that is going to be the real test. We will see. Until then it is only speculation. If you own ANY m18x consider yourselves lucky because the majority of gamers, even desktop gamers don't game nearly as well as we do. If the 6900/485/580m runs this game at max in CF/SLI then the 7 series will be pretty pointless and I will probably ride this system out for a few years and just upgrade to the R2 or wait until the next gen consoles hit and then upgrade to the latest and greatest. Again, the ONLY reason to upgrade (if means allow) is to play a game you want that your current system struggles with. Peace. -
Also an interesting footnote; FINALLY a PC game not nearly a "port." This is DX10/11 ONLY. Consoles will NOT get that eye candy. Plus a 20gig file? Though the PS3 could carry that data (though not transfer it nearly due to the GPU bottleneck and RAM bottleneck) the 360 can't hold that data. Therefore, BOTH systems will be limited to probably a game the size of the DVD. Therefore, a LOT of textures and details will be missing in the console versions. Can't wait to play a true PC game

Well from the comments a lot of people think they will need DESKTOP SLI/CF to run at ultra at 1080p; maybe we won't be playing on Ultra:/ Someone said the trailer is running 2x 580SLI. I hope our lappies can handle this bad boy!
-
Looks like we're going to be playing on high settings even with dual 6990
We might be able to play some ultra with new drivers and anti-aliasing off.
Battlefield 3 Beta Performance Test - TechSpot Reviews -
happy to know a faster i7 wont do anything for me
-
Ouch. May have to buy a new desktop video card. My monitor is 1920x1200. But seems GTX 560 Ti will be a nice bump in performance over my GTX 460. But we'll see how well it runs.
-
wow, nice find man) the game is pretty demanding, but at least i don't experience any lags or whatsoever on ultra settings. AS we can clearly notice in the article, high settings brings almost 100% in GPU scaling of both AMD and Nvidia, but on ultra the situation changes to aroun 80% or so... And this game benefit a lot from extra Mhz in CPU speed. So those 4.5Ghz XM CPU owners will definitely see an improved fps in this title)) The game rocks, hell ya!!!

i don't think this game is more demanding than metro 2033 -
-
let the final version appear and then brainstorm. beta is just beta.
-
I've been playing the game for an hour now. The shootouts are very dynamic. The game feels a bit plastic though (but that's subjective I guess).
Running at "Ultra" and that's 4x MSAA + x16 anisotropic, and I get stable 45-60 FPS. The SLI works okay. Hence, I can safely say the game runs excellently when maxed out. I hope this helps since many of you seemed quite excited about the title and final version's performance on m18x. Edit: running today's drivers, 285.62. -
Running excellent on 6990M Xfire here too.
-
Hey all,
Was just curious who was gonna be purchasing BF3 tonight or within a few days? I've been playing the Battlefield games for awhile and can't wait till the game is released tonight at midnight.
Any of you play the beta? Leave your battlelog name here so we can add each other!

I'll be picking mine up at 12AM, Alaska Time. I'm going to have to call it a night early because of the conference tomorrow morning. What time is the meeting in Alaska time ? I looked up CST and found a difference of an hour on multiple sites.

What AMD 6990m driver are you guys using to play Battlefield 3?
-
crossfire 6970's running great on ultra settings. 11.10 ver3 drivers.
add me for bf3 natas420 -
Getting very poor performance on dual 6990's. About 35 fps, all settings low. Running 11.10v3 also
-
-
Runs butter smooth on crossfire 6970s and 11.10 driver.

Man, those fans get loud and stay on.....It plays great. I do see the dips down to lower 50 FPS that I can feel when there's alot of smoke/fire & ambient lighting. HBAO looks amazing enabled. I decided to bring down AA to 2X MSAA and AF to 8x. It keeps the FPS above 57 FPS with minimal loss in visual quality.
Update: With 285.62 Verde drivers it runs maxed out on ultra with 2xMSAA. 63FPS to 57FPS. -
So it's the game a must have? I was planning on getting it for my 360 since multiplayer is so much more polished (IMO) on consoles... is there any single player stuff here? are the gfx dx11? (sorry havent seen anything on BF3)

I think it looks/performs waaaaaay better than Metro 2033.

Console over M18x? Hell no, especially not BF3. -
This kind of things seriously spoils all the fun for me. That sniping mission in the city at night was such a fail. The player is like a lab mice supposed to push the button that lights up. Nothing else. Clear objectives should be given and then it's up to the player to complete them in a way he/she wants - something a'la GRAW gameplay. -
-
Im so jealous of you guys, us Brits have got to wait until Friday!!!!!
Its one of the main reasons I got the M18x so cant wait to see how she runs it. Loved the beta. -
What FPS are people getting on the 6990Xfire on max?
-
-
Guys, Im about to buy the game, Can someone give me a link of the dirver i have to install in order to play it with good fps? im running on 11.9 official driver at the moment.
-
Thanks Zero,
Are these drivers on the amd website? Also what frames are you getting with max settings? -
-
where did you see 40? I'm getting a stable 50+
-
. also my field of view is 90.
-
Akimox,
are you runing the same drivers as Zero? What Drivers are you using? im still on official 11.9 drivers. -
same here - 11.9
-
Well i am running 11.9 cap 3 I believe. I have the 6970CF and it is NOT running well in single player. Even toning done some settings and disabling AA, I can still go into the 20s frequently according to FRAPS.
This is THE most impressive looking game. However, if single player in the 20s on 6970s, I am afraid to see what I will be playing in MP. I guess I am going to have to go through with my upgrade to the 6990s. However people saying they are in the 40s-50s in MP that would be a 40% increase over the 6970s and I just find that hard to swallow.
I will go give MP a run right now but single player is VERY hard on the system. I am also not able to re-bind keys for some reason too; may be a bug. Loading is also painfully long...
Again, single player honestly takes Crysis/Crysis 2 and blows it out of the water graphically. However, the Ultra preset is extremely taxing and I truly imagine that two desktop SLI/CF cards will be needed to max this game.
