This driver is crashing my system badly. Cannot system restore successfully and can't access safe mode. What do I do??

Edit: still trying to get a successful login. Now system is checking one of my disks for consistency and auto correcting errors. Please use this driver at your own risk! Never had such problems trying to restore. Any input appreciated. Typing from iPhone

Your drivers are not working properly, you should never dip to 20s with the 6970Ms. BF3 is not pure a texture unit bound game

Well I uninstalled (properly) and installed some bogus drivers. Then system restored (fortunately after two attempts). Did another fresh uninstall of my drivers, installed 11.0 version 3 with cap 3. Getting 20-25 FPS single player on Ultra preset. I don't know what to say. Fraps is capturing it. Are you getting 30+ with ultra at native resolution? Even desktop users are struggling at the high end?

You two are correct. Cap 3 REALLY dropped performance. Framerates are mid 30s to 50s now. Much more playable. +rep

I uninstalled the CAP 3 after playing lastnight, going to try and see if that made any differance tonight. Once I uninstalled, I didn't play. Had to get some sleep

Anybody else having the game crash when you change the graphics settings? Even if I change the slightest option when the confirm menu pops up it becomes unresponsive and after a while the music stops.

The game runs fine without touching any option but I want to max out this puppy.

Yea, I have that. Not sure why. Kinda annoying as I have to restart the game. At least this is when I'm in Multiplayer.

Guys! I am using 10.9 with cap 3. eventhough I can see the crossfire logo when playing the game GPU-Z shows only 1st card at 100% load the 2nd one is idle. I uninstalled the cap 3 and now only the 2nd card is at 100% load the 1st is idle!? Anyone experienced the same here. Single card runs the game at 25 to 45 fps.

    Problem solved with following steps,
    1) Press Alt + Enter key to disable the full screen. GPU load transfer from 1st to the 2nd one.
    2) Press Alt + Enter again to enable full screen now both GPU runing at 100% load with min 51 fps.

    This machine rocks!!!

PLayed SP for about 3 hours yesterday before I boxed my M18X and sent it back to re-order. On Ultra settings I was getting 35-40fps, turned AA down to 2X and got about 40-45 and then turned AA completely off and was getting 45-50fps. Was running 11.9 w/cap 3 and radeon pro.

Great game though, Im thinking about getting it on console to tie me over till I can re-order another M18X. My kid really wants it for xbox 360 anyway.

Lason, I believe there are known issues with CAP 3.

Also, has anyone tried overriding tesselation by turning it off in CCC? May help boost FPS. I'll try it when I get home, see how it looks and how it affects gameplay.

Eh whats the point? That's like buying a ferrari and trying to fit a Camry bodykit on it. I turned off AA and changed HBAO to SSAO and it increased FPS by 20; so that will give anyone blazing performance without sacrificing a huge amount of visual fidelity. I actually really like the tessellation in this game

Hmm, somone in the gaming section said that there was no tesselation in the game. But you are right, and I won't be doing it. At least not permanantly. Thats the reason I got 6990s ;) But I was wondering if it would infact boost FPS. I'll try it out just out of curiosity, but all it is is an experiment to see how it affects performance. It is a pretty sweet game thought. I havn't played FPS online in forever.

mine wasn't crashing badly but i just now had to uninstall them due to a BSOD. my issues aren't as severe as yours though. that's really bad.

they work better than 11.10 pre 3 + cap 3 11.9 except for the BSODs.

Wow; just goes to show what the eye is perceiving as tessellation then! I could have sworn the way the buildings and ground surfaces work that there is decent use of tessellation in the game.

With that though, "using application settings" for AMD probably will not be having any impact on FPS for tessellation but may be worth looking at for the heck of it. Still have to say this is the best looking game visually to date; but nothing extraordinary from a playing perspective. Relatively Ho Hum single player and multiplayer has a lot of work to do from a server standpoint.

    Hey all,

I have been playing BF3 since the release the other night and I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I can't seem to break around 30-35fps even when I change my video settings from high to medium or anything!

    My specs are below:

    i7 2.2ghz (3.3ghz turbo boost)
    4GB ram
    nVidia GTX560m (1.5gb)

What settings in the video should I have off or turned down? Anyone have any suggestions I'd appreciate any feedback.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I am getting this annoying beeping problem when I play BF3 now. Before you jump to conclusions, it is not my CPU or GPU's overheating, I monitor those both closely on a second screen and they never go above 65c. This problem started this morning when I installed CAP 4 for 11.9. I am running 11.10 preview 3. When ever I joined a game every 5 seconds there would be this harsh digital grunt sound. If I mute my speakers it goes away. The bad part is this grunt is accompanied by a momentary 10fps drop. I uninstalled CAP 4 and the problem is still here and yes I did a clean re-install of the drivers. This problem just magically started today. I also took my overclocks off to no avail. This game is unplayable with sound on unless I want to go crazy and without sound the sudden fps dips wreck the butter smooth game play I was getting the last two days. It seems everything that they say well fix this game seems to screw me over.

When you kill somone in BF3 it flashes your Dogtags on the screen of the n00b you just pwnd. This key will change it so while it shows your name on one dogtag, the other will have the Alienware logo. Now get the game and get to pwng da n00bs!

Razer also relased their dog tag , but u have to buy. Battlefield 3 | Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.

Those BF3 Limited edition dogtags for extra $20 is not worth it...well maybe some players likes to collect digital dogtags..

The better tag you got , the most shame when u get knifed lol.

Hahaha, I was sniping like a lastnight, 7 straight kills in a matter of min...till somone caught on, flanked me and knifed me. Hahaha, had to give it to him, it was well played...and I'm a noob :p

On another note, I was running 11.9 CAP3. Uninstalled CAP3 and didn't install anything else, and it was real smooth.

thats really odd, they seem be be working just fine for me and even fixed the stuttering in single player. your issue does sound like a hardware one though. system restore is usually good at fixing these kinds of semi-perma issues.

I manged to solve the problem. Oddly enough it was HWinfo. I am using HWinfo to run a custom fan setup since I overclock. I updated it this morning. Lone behold I run the game without it on and harsh grunt is gone. Now I need to find a new program to run custom fans.

Could anyone recommend what specs I should use for overclocking gtx 560m?

I would try to experiment, but I don't wanna do it too much where it over heats.

my gpus hit 78c on gpu 1 and 76c on gpu2, why are you using custom fan settings? i havent even repasted any of my heatsinks, its all factory. i wouldnt think anyone would need a repaste unless they are in mid 80s with their 6990s or own gtx 580ms/29x0XM

i would think sky is the limit for you. gtx 560m shouldnt get that hot and the heatsinks in the m18x are amazing. you should be able to max the card. just make sure you monitor your temps and i wouldnt pass 82c-ish.

My opinion of the graphics have changed. They are very good no doubt, but the textures up really close aren't as good as Metros or even crysis2. The game relies on a lot of exquisite lighting techniques to hide some relatively bland textures. The dark atmosphere parts of the game are very drab. Still a great looking game but I had this being "the best." Not so much anymore.

MP is good but not quite what I pictured. Then again I am an OLD CAL-O Counter Strike player so I am used to very fast paced FPS like CS, Unreal, Doom et al.

I am impressed with how the game scales and also how 50-70FPS is very fluent.

Pretty much how I feel and I don't think it lives up to its predecessor either (BF2). Lots of missing features and like you said, the textures don't look so great up close. I suppose they had to make compromises somewhere, especially with the game being released on crappy consoles.

Ok, this is generaly how I felt about this beta, and thanks dave for this assessment. It was, impressive of course at first. But the over all graphics and game play were nothing special. It felt like a slightly better Black Ops. But.... not really any different.

But then, even with this wonderful machine we all own, I am still the guy who goes back and plays final fantasy 3 ... or 7 :) ... I crave something new, something different, with a new kind of interaction.

In the experience that is a FPS ... graphics really do get lost for the most part. And dave has pretty much demonstrated that even upon close inspection the graphical content of this game isn't as impressive as it is at first contact. FPSs really boil down to the feel, the interation, the moment to moment action. The building of that feeling when you are on a 3 kills streak, ... 4 .... (Who is coming, where are they .. is my back covered ???) 5 .... holy crap ... 6 ... (how is my ammo, can I risk running out to grab that guy's gun ??!?!?!?) ... omg I HAVE IT ! 7 ..... 8 ... HOLY >>>>> damn I am dead. THAT WAS AWESOME !!! ...

where in there do we stop to say ... the tesselation on that head shot was amazing ... no where ...

If someone can convince me that ... if I get the full game my experience will change, will enhance that feeling .... i am in ... but thanks go out for this clear and critical assessment of graphics offered up.

I agree mately, lately I've been having so much fun in a game called Panzer Crops (top down, hex-based ,turn-based ww2 strat game) and I've played more of that in the last couple of days than BF3..

Also to BF3, running mine everything high (textures ultra) etc, smashes it, they have optimized it so much over the beta :D..

Well I guess this is very similar to the thread I had about my suspected BF3 performance and the efficiency of the current SB multicore thread utilization. However, what I find strange is the performance of the GPUs in game? The 6990M is akin to the 6870 correct? If so, that gets 25fps at 1900 by 1200. If 100% scaling were to occur, that would make average fps at 50. Seems like we are all getting much better than that No?

Me personally, I have the 6970s right now which is even more dismal. I run all Ultra but turn off AA and keep HBAO and have 60-80ish FPS in game? Maybe it was the drivers they used? Those scores are WAY too low but the CPU tests look fine.

to be honest, i simply put the settings on high (instead of ultra) and that shot up my fps to 60 + all the time. I am using 11.4 amd drivers. and have 6990 xfire.

how do i know xfire is kicking in?

Drivers is one reason. Also, we don't really have the exact proportions, as of how close are the 580M to 560Ti and 6990M to 6870 in real life.
