My m18x has 6990m xfire, but only 4gb of ram. I got about 50-80 fps with ultral,16x,4aax...but I feel the game run very laggy...is that because of lacking of RAM ?

You may have the game settings cranked up too high.

Thats a BF3 issue. EA/DICE claims it has been improved with the latest updated for BF3. It still pops up randomly.

Microshutting will only happen at near 30-35fps range. At 40fps it should never happen. Ofcourse its always there but the frame rates at 40 and beyond are already too fast for our eyes to perceive it.

You can try toggling between Vsync on and off modes to see which offers the best compromise.

Your suggestion helps! i swapped gpus over , it works fine now , I'm on ultra setting(all max) , getting 50-60 fps.

I just tested a round on bf3 , it seem stable. I'll try other maps see if the gpus work fine. :D

Do I need to uninstall current driver b4 install new one ?

When I switch on and off crossfire mode in catalyst control, do I have to restart in order to get effect ?

What fn+f7 for ? i tried it and my lap restart, and give me a error that says driver is not installed or something like that.

    Uninstall the current one.

    Restart

    Download driversweeper http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-3-2-0/Installer.html

and use that to clean any remnants fro the previous drivers.

    Restart

    The install the new drivers.

About to purchase the m18x.. How is the 580m 2gb with this game? Specifically on 64 player maps? Couldn't really find any info on that. Thanks much!

Mine is equiped with ATI solution and with a little OC, my rig runs BF3 set on ultra (16X Aniso, HBAO and MSAA set on High) above 60 fps the 90% of the time.
So 580GTX solution will do the work as well as mine does or better I think.

I get the same results without any OC on my 6990's. It's not hard to cap out all the settings with any of the graphics solutions on my m18x.

Hey guys! I know I am a nooby here, so I apologize if this has been discussed in another topic before. I have a question regarding battlefield 3 performance with crossfire and without it.

I have been playing battlefield no problem with crossfire (and I have always had my 6990's OC'd to 800/1100). But, earlier today, I was playing Skyrim, in which I always turn crossfire off to eliminate stuttering. I decided to get off and play a little battlefield, at which point I began playing the campaign, when I realized I didn't turn on crossfire. But, the thing is, the game was running amazing, if not better, than with crossfire! I was thrown off, so I immediately got on a 64 multiplayer match, and again, the game was running amazing with crossfire off! Is this typical or has anyone else experienced this? Why would it be running as well if not better? I have yet to test the FPS and compare, so I will get back on that.

    thank you! :)

So you have always 60fps or better? Never drops from that range?

I have same graphic setup and I can tell you that I get fps drops sometimes when there's smoke or explosions.

I'm starting to think that my gpus are defective. I'm going to call tech service to talk aobut a replacement.

I kind of skimmed through the thread and didn't notice anyone making mention of this. EDIT: ok last post on page 30 makes mention of this problem...

Does anyone else have extremely long load times when STARTING the game? Like, when I want to join a quick match, I click on it and it sits there waiting and waiting, then eventually about a minute later BF3 pops up.

It's not just multiplayer, either. If I try and start a Campaign game it will also be slow as hell to start. Load times between maps are also pretty insane...

I have an M18x with 2x Hybrid HDDs, so it's not a hardware issue, and everything else loads quick enough not to be an issue.

I have 2 of the fastest SSD MLC drives out there running on raid 0 and load times are not blazing fast! Its not slow either but not as fast as it should be since I can copy 1.2gigs a second.

I have a problem with the battlefield, I was playing perfectly until it starts to give me up and downs in fps. I remember there was another person with this problem which even posted a video with the problem. With my rig is the same. Did he get any solutions?

omg downloading this 3.9gb patch for BF3 is ridiculous, taking my internet for ever! im forcing parents to switch to comcast internet this week cause i cant stand att anymore. I think ATT has bottlenecked our bandwith cause we are high usage users.

I just want to try out the game on with the dual 6990s :(

On the subject of 3D. Has anyone got native 3D support in BF3 working with 6990m's?

I've been told it only works with NVIDIA cards. Is this true? I can't seem to get it working, but I'm hoping its because I'm using HDMI rather than DP. Still waiting for my miniDP to normal DP cable to arrive.

I've just started to experience serious stuttering issues in this game. It happens without warning where the game play goes into slow motion mode and after about 3 minutes it's okay again but then it happens again 5 minutes later, rinse and repeat.

Any ideas what it might be?

    Hi all I have a m18 with dual 6990's.
I have been playing bf3 fine since it came out, then last tuesday I get the above message and I had been playing the game about 20 mins before hand and did nothing to my computer. I still haven't been able to play even though I have reinstalled origin, bf3. Also updated my drivers and turned off avg virus.
I have seen a lot of people givin out about this and it still hasn't been resolved. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
    Thanks in advance

I'm outside looking in at u right now, jeez it sure is cold out here.

Sculls - so, when you attempt to launch BF3 you just get a message that it "has stopped working" and that's it? Anything else going on? How about other games... are they still working right?

    Hi all,

DICE have released a patch for BF3 today. Since installing the patch the lights on my M18X go off when the game starts and come back on when I exit it. The only lights that stay on are the Alienhead and the macro keys. It also effects the TactX Keyboard.

The only fix I have found so far is to disable 3rd party AlienFX effects in the options of the CC.

DICE appear to be working on solving the problem. I found the info here: Alienware Fx issues - Forums - Battlelog / Battlefield 3

Thought you would want to know.

    Cheers MP :D

I've had a few request as to what frames I get with my little 'ol solo card. Like I've said Its playable, and its not necessary to have 2 cards or the most recent to play. Of course the amount of frames you want might not be comparable to what I consider playable.

Today with the latest driver for Nvidia I ran BF3 as listed. Specs in my Sig.

    All Ultra Settings: 1920x1080 I averaged 35fps.
    All Ultra Settings: 1600x900 I averaged 45fps.

Hope this helps anyone with lower specs like myself.

The game has flickering issues with the 580M SLI. With the single gpu, the game runs fine with everything on high and 35-45 FPS. Im using 296.10 WHQL drivers. I don't know if this has already been discussed earlier. Please let me know if there is a fix for this issue?

Now this is going to sound really odd.

I had the same problem with my 560M cards. Fine on a single card loads of flickering in SLI.

Now to the odd part. I googled the problem and found it had been reported by a number of players in the BF3 forums. The fix posted in there was as follows. 'When the loading screen appears click on the screen with the mouse a few times' Very odd I know but it did work for me.

This fix works for the flickering problem that causes the grass and shrubs etc to flicker. It does not fix the green screen flickering that has been reported.

    Good Luck :)

I just tried that. It didn't worked. Thanks for the tip though. I also installed 301.24 but the problem still exists. I tried loading the battlefield profile in nvidia control panel where SLI rendering mode was "Nvidia recommended(SLI)".
Any other solution to fix this?

Edit: When I tried to play in windowed mode, it plays fine. It happens when I am in full screen.

Try disabling Origin support in games. It is an option within one of the tabs in the Origin settings. I have seen it reported that this solves some BF3 issues.

Just tried that and still its the same. Tried four different drivers. I read in the battlefield forums to disable antialiasing, so I set everything to low but still its the same. Keeps flickering in full screen. Is it really a driver issue or a hardware issue?

Crysis has a really bad flickering issue with CrossFire. It is most likely the game and not your computer.

I just did a clean install of Windows and everything.
    Still there's the same issue.
Are you guys with 580M SLI facing same issue or am I the only one?
Are the cards bad or something?

there must be some problem with your SLI cable or one of your GPU
