So, I went around on the Alienware site and found no single--never mind SLI--580M option for the M18x. DAMMIT! It looks like they're going to be sold out for a while so I'm trying to see how the 560M's would fare in lue of there being nothing better from nVIDIA. How are they? Comparable to a GTX 580 from what I've read on Notebook Check, which is fine.

There is no single 580M (or single 6990M) option for the M18x. They just have the single 460M (and maybe the 560M soon) as the entry-level offering to keep the base price low. It just happens to work out nicely for those of us who want the single 560M.

It wouldn't be too hard to pop in a single 570M/580M instead, but Dell would probably direct users who wanted a single high end GPU to the M17x instead.

The 560M is decent, comparable to a 480M, but nowhere near a desktop GTX 580. It's a great single GPU and should allow for HD gaming in almost everything. The 560M SLi option is how to get single-580M level performance at a lower price.

Thanks for the tip. Time to look into Canadian ordering options, it seems.

Makes me wonder why the heck Canada gets it, but not the US at all. Weird.

Im imagining that it is available, maybe not online. Chances are that the reps you are talking to are as thick as two short planks.... :D

Even the reps who seemed like they were really looking into it swore they had nothing on a 560M and couldn't configure a system with anything other than the current options. They said it would be up to the marketing dept as to when a 560M GPU would replace the 460M.

Not sure if me pestering them over the past weeks helped any, but at least it's finally out, and as the base GPU no less. I wouldn't have been very happy if it was the same as the UK options, 460M single and 560M only in SLi.
