In my native language I love the irony and the second degree, but my understanding of English and especially my limitations in my ability to respond will not let me play the game. ;)

If the fans @ highest gear spin at 3600, but in fact could spin at 3900, why not to go there? Imagine OC-ed cards running at full load and the temperature is very slowly rising up @3600. In such a case 3900 would stop the temps from rising and make them at least reach a stable level. I am pretty sure we will eventually see this with Saltiu's pre-overclocked bioses, for example. The cooling system will not be able to keep up at some point.

If we want the 'throttle equation' to be redefined, just as well Dell could look into making the fans spin as fast as they can @ highest gear, since with unthrottled cards we will face new cooling challenges.

MTBF will reduce considerably, they won't choose to spin the fans at their rated limits, they always back off a bit to have life on those components.

because..running at 3900 or higher cause the fan profile to fail

That's a very good point. Fine. Fan speeds stay as they are. Well, no problem there.

i gotta ask...have you ran hwinfo to control max fans yet?

and as everyone has previously posted...they drop out. meaning gpu1 fan will run and cpu and gpu 2 fans will cut off. then cpu fan may or may not spin back on. is the short version of the story.

What version of hwinfo? Not log ago it did not properly displayed RPM speeds. There could be other issues. edit: meaning if something goes wrong using hwinfo it prolly means application's fan control hasn't been mastered yet. at least this is how it looks to me. which in turn doesn't mean the fans can't do it.

the work around for this was to not run 3900 or higher and to only use custom profiles to keep in line with intel specs. (for the most part - intel specs that is) this helped the fans to run correctly instead of falling out.

    side note:
also..you needed to disable the ec compal monitoring.

Fans, speeds etc. we don't even know what are their specs, plus HWiNFO controls all fans at once and there were issues etc. etc. = incomplete knowledge there. true. Let's leave it and let's keep the agenda simple. That is right.

This means we are back to only two points on the agenda.

While the discussion of mobility GPU's is on the table with the engineers, what are the odds that somone can throw out the idea of a vbios that will allow 1.15v for AMD GPUs, just like the 5870's had? Just figured I'd try and get a bug in the ears. May not even be possible at all now that the GPU's seem locked to 1.1v :(

they are going to have a second call after this one. one for amd...but adding voltage to a card that has no problems...not likely to really happen... :(
the main issue would be gaming profiles....

Yea Dr. a second meeting is to be set up ... and it would be great to see a 1.15v ... but I am not sure if its even possible. from what Svl was looking at the 1.1 seemed a hard cap due to hardware configuratino ...

it is hard capped. just like .092 is to nvidia..but it's grayed out...meaning it can be selected. the same would have to go for amd, which....it's not grayed out so it can not be un hidden.

AFAIK you need to do a physical volt mod to overvolt the 6970/6990s. Software doesn't work at all.

Yeah, IRC will be the simplest way. Let's meet in the channel #alienware-nbr on irc.quakenet.org.

To connect type in your IRC client /server irc.quakenet.org and then use /nick <nickname> to set up your nickname etc. Then type /join #alienware-nbr to join the channel. See your irc client manual if you are having trouble etc. mIRC or XChat are good IRC clients.

Quakenet has also a 'web' client. See here: QuakeNet Web IRC (qwebirc) Just fill in your desired nickname and the channel #alienware-nbr

Let's meet on Saturday. Just join the channel sometime Saturday and idle. We will eventually meet each other, regardless of our timezones. Naturally, everybody's welcome. :D

edit: okay, skygunner27 got back to me. Bar-code, it's just up to you now. :D

For everybody out there still trying to brainstorm about the throttle, let's face a sad fact: Only Dell can fix it. No DYI solution will work here.

So let us have that meeting, possibly next week, and then we will report back *everything* we find out. Until then, just be patient. Starting n number of threads about the same issue is indeed pointless, as one of the mods pointed out. The "contact group" has a quite good idea how to describe the throttle/what to say, so don't worry. We won't miss anything.

Also, for the meeting group, the IRC channel is still on, at least until the meeting date is set solid (#alienware-nbr @ irc.quakenet.org). I am there.

This was the status of the whole thing on Friday. Today is Monday and I/we haven't heard from them, so I'd say tomorrow's conference is no can do, unless we will hear from Dell soon enough. I bet they are simply busy.

Anyhow, I am pretty sure new time will be proposed, so hang on.

    Thank you.
Bill is it possible for someone from Dell to shed some light on what the A04 bios change? Some users are reporting other changes besides what's in the release notes. I really would like to have the latest vBIOs(although I've never had a beeping problem caused by the 580M's) but not at the cost of performance.
