ecake, u have few options, either pm steve for his rep details, he can offer u a very good deal if you are willing to spend some heavy cash on m18 x, or go for m17 if ur not into sli, 580 gtx upgrade is only £280 upgrade on £1349 m17x deal you can find on dell gaming deals web page which makes
m17x price more reasoanble along with a cheap processor upgrade and well heres a 10% off voucher code you can use on any alienware machine including the ones on special offer

I was told on the phone that technical knew about it and it was in testing. I asked about an ETA and heard 1 month, but not firm.

Hence why I think I'm going to order a 580 rig

niether of those guesses really makes sense, considering they are selling them in the UK. Dell wouldn't test a product for the US, and for Europe and one for Asia .... If they are available in Europe they have been tested and approved already. Unless you are just suggesting Clevo's will have them in that period, in which I understand and retract my earlier statement.

I am still hoping/guessing we hear next week that Dell North America has the 6990 for order.

    It wasn't a guess.

I'm just saying what I heard from a Dell rep after it was confirmed that the 6990 was in the US system. I called back, spoke to a different agent who called technical and said that while it's now in the US system, it's not yet configurable for order on any Alienware system.

yes but you also said 1 month ETA and that the unit was in testing ... so again... no way they are going to be selling the units in europe but 'testing' them in North America ... and there is also no way a rep will give you an ETA on configuration, certainly not an accurate one.

SO those parts, are guesses ... yours or his ....

Just some more news concerning 6990m.

We know that they are available to order "manually" as they arent on any website as of now. My rep tells me that they will be going live on websites on 14th July. This is for the UK but may well follow suit for other countries so keep your eyes peeled for those babies popping up in the next few days....... :)

    580 look like a 1100 dollar upgrade ... ouch

this will be... ??? any guess ?? Im ready to order 580's if 200 dollar or less difference.

In theory, the 6990m is going to be about $800 less than the 580m.

    On the AU site:
    580m - $1300
    6970m - $300
    6990m - $430

Some info on the 6990M (single card):

    Test system:

i7 2820QM, 8GB Ram, Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel 510 series 250gb HD, Cat 11.5 drivers. It's probably a Clevo system from the sound of it...

    3dmark06: 21K

Vantage: P16K (overall, don't know the GPU score)

    3dmark11: P3400

Heaven 2.1 normal tessellation: 36 fps

And don't ask where I got this info (and no, I didn't overclock or play with the Engineering Sample I got, because I sold it).

Those figures look very promising for a crossfire setup. Reminds me of my R2....except I had crossfire 5870's and was getting these kind of figures....sandybridge and these newer gpu configs really do make my old R2 look in a different league.

I for one am just looking forward to seeing some numbers being crunched out by people who have bought with either dual 580m or dual 6990m....just for the sheer awesomeness......

Just ordered my m18x with dual 6970's earlier today.

I'm on hold right now with Dell US. Talked to a sales rep and she said the 6990's aren't available right now for US configuration. I told her they're already available on the AU site. She said someone else may know more, so she has me on hold right now and she's asking around. I wanna get it changed to 6990's.

EDIT: Okay, she asked around. She said the 6990's are supposed to be hitting the US sites tomorrow morning, 6 A.M.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on these forums and I have quite a curious case with my order I want to discuss. I originally wanted the m18x but decided to go with the m17x r3 for two reasons. One I decided I really didnt need all the power the m18x provides. Two on July 8th which is when I placed my order the gtx 580m was only 150 dollars!!! to upgrade from the hd 6870 on the canadian website for the m17x r3.

So my total configuration came to 3 grand which I think is great considering what I ordered. Here is where it gets wierd. I went back to the canadian site for alienware and now the price for the gtx 580m is 600 dollars again!. I mean why would they change the price for only one day. Also it wasn't a glitch because the rep who helped me also confirmed from his end the price was only 150 dollars. Maybe this is a sign of things to come.

So my question is should I be worried that my laptop may arrive with a lower card in it or something? Or do the prices drop spontaneously sometimes.

Sorry for the long post but im all hyped up in anticipation for my baby to arrive!.

Very very interesting considering when I reamed out the customer service rep for the external flaws on my system and also complained that I was super pissed because between the time of ordering and the time of arrival the 580m and the 6990 were released, the client care specialist said he would call me tuesday afternoon to sort out the details and he promised me that he would make me happy and satisfied with my purchase ....

That was last week ... wonder how long they have known ...

Oh, how i long to be Canadian...(hmmm...can i apply for citizenship and get my 6990's for $150 lol).....seems to be a flat price of $150 for any gpu configuration.....was $150 for x/f 6970's now its $150 for GTX 580m....Man, if i didnt know better, I swear I could be at a car boot sale.....roll up roll up....everything is $150.......;-)

A rumor is flying around german forums that the 6990M gets excessively hot. The first shipments in germany are supposedly the 2nd of august- are there chances we will be able to confirm or reject that rumor before then?

Slight catch that I skipped over while drooling:

"The following slide uses simulated performance (e.g. a downclocked desktop GTX 560 Ti GPU running at mobile speeds and with only 1GB GDDR5, again with a 3.4GHz Phenom II CPU), so take these results with a grain of salt:"

Holy cow! - if those charts are correct.....makes gtx 580m look like crap lol - I know they may be a bit ambiguous and undoubtedly, there will be some AMD tweaking in there somewhere but they do look promising.......

Well, even if it aint quite as fast as the 580m, if it weighs in alot lighter in the wallet department and is close enough, thats what my cash would be on if I were buyin' right now....chances are that it will be faster though - maybe not by the margin that AMD claim but still faster....

    What dya reckon?
