Thanks for the heads up. I was about to order mine this week. Hopefully, it will come out before mid-october.

Pretty sure it will be out along time before then.... -
Never know, AW made a lot of announcements about the new GPUs being released in June, but it took until August for the 560M to finally make it into the production units. Might be a similar situation with the CPUs, some might be available, others might not get replaced for awhile longer.

I guess so. Its dependant upon region. I know my contact has given me good solid info about things in the past such as release of 580 sli and 6990 xf.....even right down to the prices.
I know you were waiting for 560m in a non-UK region. As soon as I was told about them, they were available more or less right away (at least in the UK for manual orders) so fingers crossed it will be likewise for the cpu release news too....
I will find out more in the next few days....will post back to keep you guys informed!

stevie, we are just stuck with our humble hamsters on a wheel processors
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Hahaha - yeah, its a bugger though when a newer faster "hamster" is released.....
-
That's good. Can't wait to order this beast before BF3 comes out.

Check out the thread in my sig. below - if its of any use, let me know.

Talked to a rep in Ireland today and he said that the 2960XM wouldn't be available for another 3 months.... then I rang another rep and he said he can order my M18X with the 2960XM right now. Really is pot-luck whether you get someone who knows anything...... Hopefully ordering tomorrow!
-
so... when will this be available on the actual site...?
any ideas? -
My 21-day return window ends on the 31st... hopefully by then! Doubt it though.
-
Lol! Ive only had mine 10 days and it's already an abacus!
Whats the UK return policy? -
I dont really think it would be worth the hassle... Unless it were a major upgrade like 7xxx or Ivy.
-
He didn't know when it would be live on the site. To be honest he didn't even know what it was when I asked him about it. He just rang the production manager and found out that he could have it as an option.

Dell reps are so unhelpful... -
U ordered one? No wait thats a quote from your rep?!
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Nah mate, I havent ordered one! - just chit-chatting and although its still not available to configure online or manually beacause of the SKU's, this was just to show that it is obvioulsy on Dell's "books" as an "imminent" release....and that my initial post wasnt "hype"...... -
Hi, new to the forums!
Does the updated line apply to the 2630QM as well? And if so, any idea of what the performance increase would be like? -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Firstly, welcome to NBR!! - hope you enjoy all the good info we have going on here.....
The 2670qm is the next gen equivalent of the 2630qm....I wont blurb all the stuff but suffice to say that its supposedly about equal to the 2720qm.
Notebookcheck always have some good info so have a look here. Should give you some info on 2630qm vs 2670qm (successor) and 2720qm

When should i expect the availability of 2960XM on the M18x for Canada/USA ? -
Thanks, been browsing for a few days now and this forum is brilliant!
Currently looking to get an m18x but having trouble getting to a sales rep able to provide the new processors (last guy i talked to said they were only available to business users). But I'll keep trying and I'm sure it'll work out in the end.
Thanks for the info on the 2670

Im not sure. Each region will have their own timeframe I imagine. Sometimes US get things first and sometimes Europe/UK.....no idea on this one, sorry.
Your welcome. Yeah, it will be hard nailing a rep down at the moment as it still not quite official. I am sure once it is, you should technically be able to get any rep to manually configure a system with it once its "live" - even if its not live on the website at that time. -
Avalable in Europe now..
In the Netherlands where I live its 40 euro's differance. 2720QM is still in stock thats why. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah? - what site is that on as I couldnt see it on the Netherlands web page.... -
Rep. added it manualy.
It is in their systems to order. -
Just got a word from my rep.
Its in the system but trying to add it to the quote the system goes into error.
So its there but not available yet. Bummer.
-
Me too, the rep said when he added it to the quote, the line came up in red and he couldn't finalise the quote. Said he'd call production and get back to me.
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I think that's because although the cpu SKU's will be on the system, the green light hasnt been given to sell them yet...manually or otherwise. It's just a matter of time I guess before we see them live or to configure manually.
-
Does Dell sell OEM/Tray CPU's? I already have a 2720QM in my M18x and I'm interested in purchasing the 2960XM once available.
Thanks!
-
the help desk in costa rica tried to sell me a 2960xm for 2k
i was like wth!
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow, $2000 is a bit steep, even for a OEM extreme cpu.....think i'd rather buy a whole new laptop for that
-
Agreed!
rep+ -
What!!!! 2K for a 2960XM... never mind I asked
-
yeah, that guy was high or something. or his eyes need checking.
-
Probably both!
-
$2000? That's crazy and wrong. Same price as 2920xm it should be. What I want to see is what the overclock peak is... Unless it can actually overclock higher than the 2920xm using the unlocked limits of the a03 unlocked bios and Da-G's method then its not any different than the 2920xm other than its stock speeds and baseclock at 2.7ghz up from 2.5ghz. If that is the only difference than to an overclocker the basclock never matters since I'm always running at turbo values or 800mhz. So truly until proven there may be no real world difference at all. I was going to buy one but until I see higher speeds on the 2960xm I will continue to use my time tested 2920xm. cheers.

electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Seeing as how the 2920xm hits thermal/Vcore limits with the M18x and is dynamically all over the map, i suspect the 2960xm will be just like the 920xm/940xm scenario with Throttlestop. Hopefully, the M18x will be compatible with ivy, and that will be the next, big thing extreme parts (XM) speaking...
-
Much agreed sir. My thoughts exactly.
-
Unfortunately, HM67, HM65, UM67, QS67, QM67, Q65, Q67 and B65 chipsets aren't compatible with Ivy Bridge
Probably there will be no support for any existing SB laptop whatsoever! So i'd rather gear up with the best SB CPU i might need from the new Intel line-up (2760qm, 2860qm, 2960qm) and enjoy...
Original article is here -
So Sager did implement a new Intel SB CPU's to their range of laptops, we should see an AW refresh pretty soon, based on that!
-
I don't actually think this article is all that clear or authoritative on the issue, BUT .. we will see in the end, and yes a 2920 or 2960 will be rockin for a while anyway.
-
Finally got confirmation from my rep today that he can include the 2960XM in my quote. Fingers crossed I'm ordering tomorrow! Although, my RAM and SSD came today so I'll have to stare at them for a few weeks....
-
Are these available to order on m18x in the uk yet?
-
Not too sure about the UK, I saw in another thread someone saying a rep in the UK told them it would be mid-October before they would be available in the UK.
I ordered mine in Ireland today through our business rep with the 2960XM, however yesterday was the first day he could add it to the quote without getting an error. -
just hope it's not like some of these pre orders...you think it's ordered...then you wait for 2 to 3 months to get it.
-
Now that would be annoying.....
-
FYI: The 2960XM is already available at the Dellienware configuration site:
"Intel® Core™ i7 2960XM Overclocked Turbo Boost to 4.0GHz (8MB Cache)" -
Yeh, which country though? It's not avaiable on a lot of the alienware sites..
