You sure your cards are ok? Seems like you're having issues with them with over clocking, wonder if you got bum cards maybe?

They seem to both be working. I wiped off steam and am reinstalling all the games now to see if that was it. Before I had moved the steamapps folder, now I am re-downloading and fresh installing

Does it matter that the benchmark is only able to run in 32-bit mode? Should not effect performance much if at all

I don't know much about over locking, but is each system different? If one can push 850/1500 is there a chance I can't?

What happens when you try to run the 64 bit?

It cannot find the needed files for 64-bit, I guess Steam only installes teh 32-bit stuff

As for overclocking, different chips will have different tolerances and efficiencies when it comes to overclocking. Hopefully I can find something wrong with mine to warrant replacement and a chance at getting better clockers.

Have not tried any external monitors yet. Will try that once my desktop is sold and off my desk (it is where the laptop will be when it is on my desk)

I still need to test driving 2 displays off the one mini displayport (SHOULD be possible....we will see if it can drive 2 DVI displays though...may ONLY work with 2 displayport displays)

Update: So far, I can get windows to see the 3 displays but it can only output signal to the 2 externals at 640x480 (maybe a bandwidth constraint on the port) at the same time and only if they are mirrors of each other. If I only output to one it works as expected. I am doing a displayport to dvi conversion - perhaps it would work properly with native display port monitors so that it can use the proper display port signal protocol but I cannot test such a setup :(

My setup is as follows since I am sure I have confused someone:
-M18x outputting signal to built in panel as well as mini displayport
-Mini displayport is plugged into a mini displayport to 2 full size displayport adapter
-Each external monitor is attached via a full sized displayport to DVI adapter (DVI monitors)

It seems like you have to have native display port external monitors for this all to work :( At least now we know

Multi Monitor Adapter for Maximum Performance | TripleHead2Go

Scook that's one solution, but you get 3 DP outputs which would then need converting to DVI if you don't have DP monitors. Not ideal for sure.

The problem with the DP to DVI adapters is that they limit to 1024 vertical resolution, which probably isn't your target. So seems like there isn't an ideal world yet.

Well, few reasons that Im not happy with it really. Idle temps for gpu's is around 65c just sat at desktop with not much goin' on.....mine keeps locking up/freezing too. I ve had it 3days now and its locked over half a dozen times so far needing a hard shutdown each time.

Also, when I do manage to shut it down via start/shutdown, on occasion the system "seems" to shut off...the display goes off, HDD activity stops but the AlienFX lights stay on and so does the right gpu.

Ive also noticed that when i boot it up, sometimes the keyboard will light normally - sometimes only half of it will light up till it gets to the desktop and sometimes ....pah....well its just "sometimes" - I hate that word.....it should work right all the time, not just sometimes.....

    So, in a nutshell....thats why!

I own 3 of those monitors and use them purely for gaming and I can tell you right now they are an amazing value. The only issue I have is when the screen is all black you get the "IPS Glow" effect where the edges are a little Yellow tintish. Hardly an issue though considering you normally have an image on the screen and when you do it does not exist.

I'll post some pics of the M18x next to my monitors tonight and you'll see how nice they are.

    Thats not good :/

I have some of those issues (AlienFX) and I figured it was just me so just passed it off as it being the Dell install/new gen issues.

I need to test the idle temps, but honestly it hasn't really affected game play or my benchmarking. Now that you mention it though, I will take a look.

I have a exg coming in about 3 weeks so hopefully the exg won't have any other issues people are talking about. I would return it as well, but honestly I just need to settle on a piece of technology. This year has been nuts for me...

    OH MAN !!!!!!

I was planning to order one from dell website but i can't buy a 3000$ system and ship it to the middle east (where i live) and open the box with a broken part or having these issues !!!!
Dell doesn't offer international warranty , so the 3000$ will be in the gutter ....Damn it

I'm quiet disappointed and worried at the same time...

Dell does offer international warranty , you can transfer your warranty to eligble countries ( IE in the middleast for example , UAE ) , Unless you live in Iraq then im pretty sure you can work something out.

Pal, I have been using Dell's warranty for more than 15 years now and I mean ALL OVER THE WORLD. Having not problem (besides some long talking over the free call phone...). I have told here in another place of a story being in the middle of the Amazon river, more than two hours from any city... and they send a technician with the part... Many times I think about buying other brands but then I realize that Dell is the only one to offer real world wide NBD warranty support. ;)

There's a review of M18x from notebookcheck. Great scores across the board except for the screen and weight. Honestly, I'm surprised at their noise level remark, my system is far less loud under heavy load than both the M17XR1&R2.

On the center they say: "Alienware is a 18.4 Customs-WLED display in 16: 9-format is and provides a glossy finish."

On the side they say: "The 18.4 Imperial anti-glare display is extremely strong (http://www.notebookcheck.com/typo3temp/pics/caf61b6d54.jpg)"
Would like to know where they found an "anti-glare" display???

Their display measurements were different than mine. Spyder 3 Elite measured a 0.56 cd/m^2 black level and about 244 cd/m^2 brightness. So to get CR: 1.78X244=435 so 435:1 CR. I noticed they take the value for the max brightness to calculate their CR where as I took the average which makes more sense. I'm not sure how they measured their black levels though, that's where the biggest difference lies. Stamatis (friend of mine) uses a completely black room with no ambient light which is what I think notebookcheck did and I use one with either incandescent light or minimal daylight (blinds closed) for a more realistic measurement--something even the AVS guys do for HDTVs and I did for my Kuro plasma. And yeah, their comment about noise made me wonder what their view of quiet is for a powerful DTR because the M18x is a lot quieter than my M17x-R2.

I think your measurements are more real. Even to my naked eye the contrast is nowhere near the 736:1.

Probably just a typo. BTW, the panel under the glass cover should be matte according to Dell ;)
