3d means no IGP means crappy battery life. It is not that good and not worth losing the only shread of mobility that these have lol

I went with the Trans + Receiver. Wanted to check it out, see how that worked.
That's being delivered this Friday, unfortunately the M18 isn't slated to be delivered until the 27th.

I just ordered this afternoon and I haven't gotten an update yet, has anyone gotten an update to their order status yet? Engadget says that it'll be May 24th before they deliver, I'm crossing my fingers for an earlier delivery.

Never. If you want the M18x order it now. Speculating on when a different card will be available (let alone exist....) is only going to waste your time and disappoint you as I am sure once it IS out it wont work in the M18x

I just got this in my email:

    Estimated Delivery Date: 5/26/2011

For the people who've ordered from Alienware, any chance Dell over-estimate their dates just to be safe?

It seems that dell does on occasion deliver before their estimated delivery. I'm sure they'd rather over-estimate than fall behind and make people mad lol

How do you come to this conclusion? From the manual, there is no 3d option. Frank Arzor(can't spell) did not mention it in his youtube interview either. Also, it is not mentioned on the dell site anywhere, and I haven't heard any rumors on nbr of a 120hz screen. Not trying to be a downer, but you sound adamant that you know it is coming, but I haven't heard any such confirmation

Any speculation on a 3D screen is just that, speculation. There has been no word on a 3D screen by any Dell employee, so it's the same like speculating there will be an RGB screen available. Unless they are the Dell CEO, do not take anything from a non dell employee as anything more than speculation.

Dell is also playing it smart with the 3D. No one is really sure how interested gamers are in the tech so they release one laptop optimized for it and then wait on demand.

I know that right now I'm still waiting for someone to tell me it makes any game that much better compared to its 2D counterpart.

Yes they do over estimate with the delivery dates to cover their butts so people cant come back and try to argue a cheaper price or some kinda discount for a failed delivery. I was in Afganistan when i ordered my mx17 R2 and i received it 14 days after the order was complete. I used 2nd day delivery with Dell, then another 7 day delivery window for the USPS. Dell built my computer in a week. However, this is a new release and im sure their packed with orders so i dont know about this situation.

Actually, the amazing thing is not the 3d itself, but the 120hz screen, that makes games far more fluid and enjoyable.

I'm absolutely positive, I trust my contact over there at Alienware (This is the same contact who gets me large discounts, and who also called me AFTER I made a purchase of my M17x-R3 and instructed me to CANCEL my order and re-do it for an additional savings of nearly 300+ dollars) And to date I've ordered the m17x-R3, m11x-R3 all from this contact, and maybe an M18x depending if I want 3D or not.

Oh, I totally get that and would pay extra for a 120Hz screen on my M18x if I could. :)

But the 3D part is no big deal right now at all. Some people dig it and that's cool but I highly doubt anyone is making games that truly use the tech to do something amazing that just NEEDS to be played in 3D.

For me I find that the m18x is too similar to the m17x R2, and considering that I am currently sitting on both the R3 an the R2 version of the m17x I find that the systems are currently too similar and considering I'm not a benchy person there is no real clear advantage for me to get the m18x currently. So I'll wait and sit on the sidelines.

I couldnt agree more. Honestly i have 2 M17x's. One balls out configured and one more modest with cf 4870's for the wife. I doubt that the balls out m18x performance increase is worth another 3600.00. thats what i paid for my m17x.

I'll probably wait another generation or 2 before upgrading. So far my 920xm/ssd/5870's crush everything i play.

I am eager to see the benches and hope that they meet everyone's expectations.

I wish they would make the plastic palmrest out of the red aluminum. That would complete the look and feel imo.

    I just got a screaming deal on an Aurora R3. 1225.00(epp) delivered with [email protected], 1tb hd(replaced with 128gb ssd), 8gb 1333, dvdrw, 1gb6870.

So it'll be tough to spend 3x that and get less/= performance.

    The 6970M CF will beat a 6870 pretty easily.......the beat a 5870 which is about a 6950 in performance

the mobile cards will beat the desktop card? If so thats good to know. I understand that the desktop 6870 wasnt much of an upgrade. However it came with the aurora 35% R3 coupon code so i cant complain and it plays all the games i've thrown at it at max. Its good for now.

Of course i assume that my cf5870 has a few good years in it.

Nice to see you skook on the TH pages. You represent NBRC alienware members well.

CF6970m is only about 9% slower than a 6970 desktop. Not bad at all for a laptop.

Not bad at all. Though i have to admit that ive been disappointed in ATI drivers. I just ran the 10.4 catalyst on my M17x and it says i'm up to date. I have 10.3 installed.

    umm... really?

I'd like to see 5xx nvidia cards. 460's are long in the tooth and the M18 should be able to handle 5xx cards power draw.

That 330w bricks gotta be huge....

Some one has to silence the fools who do not know what a good laptop is on those comment sections haha

They think all laptops should be cheap last forever and cost nothing. And spending any money on a laptop is stupid because a stronger desktop can be had for the same price. It is a broken record and I hate it lol. Every time there is a laptop reviewed I will be there to counter their poor logic

Don't think that 2*6970M 2GB that are underclocked 6850 2GB desktop card in crossfire beat a single high GPU GTX 480. Desktop GTX 480 is average 25% more powerfull then 6850 1GB and in Crossfire 8% better then single GTX 480.

The number was taken from TechPowerUp review.

The GTX 480 should be able to hold off a pair of laptop 6970m's

The Desktop 6970 however is a target as is the GTX 570

I spent days being transferred back and forth and was on the phone with Dell for 3 hours at one point.

This guy took care of everything in just minutes. It was amazing, M18X on the way :)
