Wonder how long the build phase of production takes.

If you're one of the first to order, build usually takes about a week.

After following this forum for a while and a near miss on the first batch of M17xR3s I bit the bullet.

I'm based in Hong Kong and amazed it was available here so soon after the US:

    Stealth Black Anodized Aluminum
    2920XM
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM (4x4GB)
    Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6970M - AMD CrossFireX™
    1.5TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Genuine Windows(R) 7 Ultimate 64bit Multi-Language (Traditional Chinese / English)
3-year Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover
Wireless Network Card Intel Wireless 6300

There was no Wireless HD option though - keen to know where I can source an internal card

What was the price for this config? I am currently in HK as well but am reluctant to buy it here because its easily an extra $1000US over the canadian price with same config.

Seems to be quite a few people getting the 2920xm CPU. I keep flipping between that and the 2720qm. Is it worth the extra $600+?

You are right - it was more pricey. I only looked at US & UK as reference points though and it was inbetween. About a USD 600 premium i think (HK 43,953) - like for like . I didn't want the hassle/risk/latency of having it fed-exed via an intermediary and then getting regional cover transfered to HK (which i wasn't even aware you could do until after ordering). Fed-ex insured US to HK would also erode the potential savings.
Curious to know when it will arrive though - no estimate given unlike with US builds

15-ish. I had EPP + financial discounts (this was a new rep + sales guy). It didn't go through though so I had to call my original rep.

Now my order just has EPP. It only saves around $110.

I'm looking at trading up, maybe if I can justify the price delta, but my rep is only giving ~9% (includes EPP discount) + 3% DPA. I though that was kind of lousy considering I got about 28% on my M17xR3 order, but it might not be so bad in comparsion to other M18x orders.

Still hard to justify the price delta considering my discount...what to do? what to do?

Doesn't it go to In Production as soon as the payment is authorized? May depend on the old vs new order status system. With EPP I only have access to the old Order Status.

Got a free backpack and next day shipping, along with EPP, and other little discounts, $170ish off. Not too shabby.

EPP is really funny. I mean, the Dell guy was able to get me that discount just by asking what car insurance company I have.

Now Dell canada offer $260 off on the m18X....$2199.99 Base model+6970m CF.+8GB 1333mhz ram 2dimm+750 GB HDD or you can add $40 to get 1600 mhz 8GB ram 4 dimm. I have to replace my order again and will add $40 to get 1600mhz 8GB ram 4 dimm.

For those who placed M18X order from Dell Canada.....may need to reorder it to get extra free ram and hdd.

For those who want the M17-R3 in Canada...Bad news...they change the price today. 3D model goes up from $1899 to $1999 and lower the cpu from 2720 to 2630....none 3D one, they also lower the cpu to 2630 but give Dell - Alienware TactX Mouse instead!

Great to hear that.....Don't you want to add $40 to get 8GB 1600mhz 4dimm if you only use 8GB at max.....you have 4 yrs CC to cover your ram....For me, I will only use 8GB...$40 is cheaper than buying hyper X 8GB 2dimm.

for me theres no point in upgrading the ram since ill have 8gb now. theres almost 0 difference in 1333 vs. 1600 so that $40 is better spent elsewhere for me. id rather have 2 dimms being used up. this way itll cost me $80 to get another 8gb and go to 16gb.

pretty sweet deal though, $460 in total savings!!!! new EDD of 6/2/2011 sucks though

btw, i have 16gb of ram in my desktop and i never use more than 4gb.

The 750gb would be better if you're going to add a SSD later on.

I might dual-boot. the hybrid will destroy the 750gb in performance. Plus the warranty later on might give me a better hybrid drive. I think long term when I buy AW.

While that is a good price, I dont see why you would invest in a 2920xm with a 1 year standard warranty.

Id be getting at least the 3 year plan.

Am I the only one checking order status a few times a day hoping to see Shipped, even though it's certainly going to be a week or 2 before that happens?
