That CPU is just sitting there pleading you to use it too![]()

haha sure thing, but not only that, the tri-pipe CPU heatsink with ICD24 also keep giving me this haunted stare all the time I turn around!!
Day will come, I just hope they dont "auto-upgrade" me with M18X R3 or otherwise I will be looking for R2 motherboard and pair of 680m's
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah I have my samsung ram, thermal pads, IC diamond and a couple of other top secret things just staring at me.
-
Are you getting yourself M18X R3 or what?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can look at the "are you upgrading" thread for more info on that
-
well I officially have to say I cancelled my order today. This was the 3rd time they delayed my order and this time its going to be another month so I cancelled because I can build a micro atx system for half the price and it be 5Xs more powerful. The customer service is so bad at dell XD.
-
Mine is still the same as well 21st June, I am beginning to get cold feet and wonder
£3150 is a lot of money. Especially as the 4th gen is here as well as 780m's.
I just have to remember 680m's are plenty for bf3 and bf4 plus I love the design over the new design -
haha true thing
to me also R2 looks more mean laptop cosmetically vs R3, but time will show what does it really look in a daylight once they are officially anounced and launched to public, a matter of 2 more days I suppose...
My M18X R2 is also still due for delivery on or before 28'th. No biggy, I feel I will have great use of R2 and when R3 get cheaper if they will be as good reputation and not as bad looking as from leaked images, I will probably also grab the one too
lets hope for the best. -
That is true hope for the best. Still they actually need to get me my system be the 21st. I have tones of stuff sitting on my side now to go into the computer lol
Just read the article in your sig. Thats shocking! -
Yea that is saddening aint it? I just hope there be least no faults with my new unit for a long time, like I said hope for the best.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Better to wait a little now and get a system that works like it should I suppose.
-
Been keeping an eye on this topic lately with the new products that were to come out but I couldn't pass up the discounts that were out there so I placed an order on the 16th of May and was given a date of June 14th for delivery. Just got an email this morning saying that I am delayed until the 24th now. So I guess I just have to keep waiting for now.
-
I have canceled my DELL order today for base config M18X R2 with 680m SLI, I have taken over the maxed out M18X R2 from a member here so will be still getting the R2 but just quicker and already maxed out.
-
I know everyone's excited about the new M18 release, but I thought I'd update on my experience with the M18X R2 order.
So the saga continues and my order has been delayed (original order date 4/23). I received this email today:
Dear Dell Customer,
We are contacting you regarding your recent order for an Alienware M18x notebook.
Unfortunately, due to higher than expected sales in recently, we are running into a supply issue with the Alienware M18x. We are working to build and ship your order as soon as possible. As of right now, we are estimating your shipment will be delayed until on or before July 5th .
Once again, we apologies for this inconvenience, we know that all you want it to receive your system. Please know that we are working very diligently to ship out your order as soon as possible.
We value you as a customer and apologize for any negative experience this might cause.
Alienware Customer Care Support Number: 866 287-6727, option 2
Sincerely
Dell
It still seems a bit quicker for me to wait than to place a new order. Hopefully it'll arrive before Independence Day. -
I too just received the same email with the same date of July 5th. I was supposed to have received my M18X by 19 June. I already have received a free Dell color laser printer, 5% back gift card, and free 2 day shipping. What are they going to throw in now for another delay?
-
Also received the same email. I origianally placed my order on the 16th of May with an original delivery date of the 10th of June which was pushed to the 24th of June and now the 5th of July. I checked the website and configuring a new 18x also gives the date of July 5th but I wonder if that can be trusted. At any rate if I can find a rep that is interested in working out a price close to my 18x order for a new 18 I think I will just switch and wait that out.
-
I guess Im glad I cancelled my order and just bought direct from member here one maxed-out m18x r2 with everything on top par... mine was ordered on 27th May, EDD 28June, never given any change of update but I guess I would have given one if I didnt canceled my order by now
Hope you guys get it at the end (special delivery, newly pressed parts for your remaining orders where there were short on those parts)
BR -
Just got that same email as well, i ordered mine 4/20. you guys are getting free stuff? I got offered a bag, when im pretty sure the rep could have seen from my information that i had already purchased a 100 dollar bag from them 2 months ago when i was hoping to have had my computer now. i asked one of the 20 reps i've talked to who was an actual "supervisor" and asked about possibly getting a processor upgrade or something because they were about to release the 4th gen and the 3940 wasn't an option anymore and figured they might have one of those around to give me, he basically laughed in my face without actually doing it. Kind of disrespectful. im not really the consumer to complain and try to get free stuff, i really just want my computer, but 60+ days is a bit of a stretch to not even be offered any kind of compensation that is even relevant to my $4000 purchase. Just wouldn't mind the processor upgrade, thats all im saying
especially if i have to wait until the 5th now when is supposed to be here "thursday"...
-
Received another email from Dell, maybe production is going again as yesterday's email said delayed to 5 July, today's says 26 June.
Dear Customer,
We wanted to let you know that there is a delay with one or more items in your order.
Based on the latest available information, we have adjusted your Estimated Delivery Date and your order is now projected to reach you on or before 6/26/2013
We are sorry for the delay and appreciate your patience.
Product Description (click here for full order details) Revised Estimated Delivery Date
Alienware M18X R2 - Direct 6/26/2013 -
Mine still shows the 24th under my account which did not change after I received the email about the 5th of July. I wonder if the delay email is just automated and sends out X days before your delivery date if the order isn't updated to shipped and just adds X days to it.
I'm still debating if I want to wait or just try to get a good price on a new 18.
Update on my status. I received an email from a rep asking me to call him. When I did he said my order was on hold and not in production due to the m18x being at end of life and that I needed to cancel my m18x order and enter a new order for an 18. He was anxious to get it done and wanted me to call him back right away but I am at work so I will catch him this afternoon and see what happens. -
^^^ that is NOT GOOD !!! Im sorry to hear that man, I hope all the other fellows waiting around for their R2 will get theirs otherwise, its a sad stuff
-
Just tried to call in and cancel the m18x and they said it shows it was already cancelled. Don't know if the rep went ahead and did it anyway or if it was auto cancelled but I guess I will call him back and see what price he can offer.
Edit: Basically quoted me off the website with a $200 GC but without the $100 coupon that's floating around and for the 770 SLI not the 780. -
Pressure them. Tell them that you already had problems with an order and that it was their fault, act angry but politely at the same time. Explain that you were already a bit annoyed at the fact that your order was cancelled without asking for your confirmation, and that the least they can do is offer you a discount on an Alienware 18. Be persuasive, and be diplomatic as well.
-
Very sorry for you.
That's interesting as you ordered your M18 about 2 weeks before I ordered mine. I ordered through EPP program and she threw in a free color
laser printer which I said I did not want, but they sent it anyway. I have the printer so if they cancel my order too, I wonder if the printer is still mine. Good thing I did not sell it on Craigslist yet. -
Hello All - I just joined the forum. I ordered my M18x R2 on 5/24 with an initial EDD on or before 6/27. I just checked the order status and it says it's "In Production" with an EDD of 6/26
This thread has me nervous! Hopefully we all get our new rigs sooner than later. A month is so freaking long to wait as it is. I see many who've posted here have waited even longer! Can't imagine that. -
after like 70 days, i just got a tracking number from fedex, its weighs 21 lbs, so well it should be here tomorrow holy crap, might it actually happen?
-
Well looks like i am one step closer to getting my alienware 18
was told that notebook should ship in 3-4 weeks. Ordered the second option with the 4700QM cpu but sli 780m.
-
I have been wait 2 months for m18x r2
-
m18 now is need 1 month to ship,so poor
-
I got my original one March 18th, sort of. It was ordered March 2nd, with a really good 25% discount, then the next day I decided I would like the Killer wireless 1103. It took them 2 days to cancel and reorder so they took off a "1 time" $50. I was in Jpaan so on the 18th it came to my house in Wash state, then son sent to me in Japan. I turned it on and immediately noticed a thumb sized bad spot on LCD. So had to switch Service Tag to international, then wait for phone call. It got repaired, sort of. The screen was fixed on the inside, but I did not notice the back panel was loose for awhile. And shortly the HDD stopped working. SO I waited till I was back in the states (May 17th), then I called Dell and asked for onsite repair. They said they would rather have it in their hands to fix properly. LOL. So they got it. I got it back about a week and a half after I initiated the repair. LOL. I turn it on, "sorry, no boot drive detected". Their repair sheet said they replaced HDD, motherboard, and video cards??? I had told them only problem was interposer cable. Well after another week and many phone calls, they decided to replace. So they started a new order on 6/14/13. 2 days later I get a phone call that they no longer have 7970 CFX, only 680 SLI, so I groan a little and say ok. Next he tells me they have no more RED, which is bad because my Custom nameplate says "Darth Maul", and he is Red & Black!! So I groan some more, and then rep says he will upgrade ram from 6 to 16GB and DVD burner to Bluray reader/dvd burner. I groan (while chuckling to myself of course) and say well....ok, thanks.
So original M18X R2 was 3740QM - 6GB ram - 7970 CFX - 500GB hdd - Killer wireless/BT 4.0 - DVD burner for 2175+tax ($2363) plus the $110 gift card (became Orion backpack). Really no use out of it yet.
New M18X R2 3840QM - 8GB ram - 680 SLI - 750GB hdd - Killer wireless/BT 4.0 - Bluray/DVD burner (retail price on order form $3515 - plus tax would be $3817)
I have 2 180GB SSD sata 3 and a 1 TB HDD plus 32GB Corsair vengeance ram 1866 ready to go inside. Ram works perfect, it was in original one. And at one point I had SSD's working also in raid-0. My boys will each get an upgrade from my leftovers.
Moral of the story - DON"T give up!! -
Really sweet deal Brembrad! I smiled at that part where you were chuckling to yourself... good poker tactics, I would have screamed out in joy if they were upgrading my machine from 7970M CFX to 680M SLI haha.
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Indeed, a great result...and a very valid moral, too.....
-
I am not sure this is really any closer. It screams: "we still don't have the parts and are having issues we don't want to talk about with our customers, so we are going to throw out the idea that it will ship out in 30 days so as to kinda indicate that we are still on track for a late July arrival as our website says."
These orders were placed in the earlier part of June. It seems like AW should have done a "pre order" instead of just appearing to have the ability to make and ship the systems. It's rather frustrating to see that I ordered my system on June 11th but if I ordered TODAY I would still have the same "arrival" date. It's BS. It sounds like a lot of back ordered parts, maybe quality issues that surfaced late, etc. I know some people are thinking they will get their systems early but I wouldn't be surprised if these get pushed back into August. No one seems to have any concrete reason why orders aren't moving through. Some people are showing "in production" but from the few indications we have on the forums, there are screen issues and possibly GPU back order issues. Who knows. If a rep told me today my order would ship in 30 days I would basically know that they are just blowing smoke up my you know what.... -
Was told 3-4 week it will be shipped (from were ...no idea) so yes they dont have the parts but am not in a hurry to get the notebook anyway
waiting a month is fine by me.The system however will then have to be spot on with no problems out of the box.
Bad part is that if you try to hurry with orders and have problems with parts then it will lead to faulty or bad systems being shipped.
-
And we have liftoff! Just received a tracking number with EDD of tomorrow. That makes about 63 days from ordering to delivery for my R2. Looking forward to the 680M SLI!
Thanks all for the camaraderie and I hope others get their systems soon. I have my USB flash ready and waiting for my recovery media.
-
Congrats!
This Is going to be the longest day of your life!!
Enjoy your new beast.
Mine is supposed to be here Wednesday. -
So I ordered mine on last thursday being told it will take aprox two weeks. yesterday on the 23rd i was informed it will take longer at about 4-5 weeks.... /shoot self
for the alienware 18 780m sli.... -
Just received delay notice #2 on my M18x. Now I am seriously thinking about just letting them cancel the order and in a few months order a M18x with 780's. Was supposed to have received my M18x tomorrow.
Dear Customer,
We're sorry but your order will take longer to fulfill than previously communicated and is now scheduled to be delivered on or before 7/3/2013
Because we did not meet the date previously communicated to you, we need your permission today to continue your order with this new date. If we do not receive your permission, the Federal Trade Commission requires that we cancel your order. -
oh man, getting best performance ratio? just cancel the R2 and order new 18 with dual 780m , at the long run 780m's should be up to twice as powerful as 680m sli. Unless you like the old design then storry is different
-
My M18x was supposed to ship today.
I called Dell customer support and they told me that they received a note from the production site (or something like that - I couldn't understand the guys thick accent) that there is a problem with the LCD screens. They expect to have the issue resolved soon and production should resume shortly. I asked about upgrading the processor or video cards to make up for the hassle and got nowhere.
I'm not through with them. I'll call back and get something extra. I know it's not going to be easy but I'm not going to give up. My biggest concern is that I ordered this monster for work through my place of employment. I'm sure many of you can understand that getting a $4000.00 laptop approved was no small feat when the majority of my coworkers have systems below $700.00 - Plus I already have a two fairly new workstations: a 5 month old Dell and a 2 year old MacPro. I'm pushing it now! I don't want to have to ask for more $$. I configured/priced a new model M18 on the Dell site and to get something comparable with all of the new hardware is over $4000.00. Which was my limit.
This sucks ...
I was told that it is their policy that customers are to receive no compensation for delays in orders??!
I then started to work the CS guy over a little bit and …. The line went dead.
My new delivery date is now July 5th. -
You'll eventually get it. Having to wait is really lousy. They should just convert you over to an equivalent 18.
You're blessed to have an employer that allowed you the luxury. I get to use a overwhelmingly anemic and completely unimpressive T420 with a ultra-crappy 1366x720 display. I could say more, but I'll stop since this is an Alienware forum. -
Any ideas if ATI graphics chipsets will ever be on the M18x R3?
-
Well I just thought I'd give yet another update.
I have my Dell rep working some numbers for me on a new M18. My proposed (dream) configuration is with the i7-4900MQ processor, 750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM) + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching, GTX 780M SLI, 32GB RAM, Windows 8, etc .... I'm just over $3800.00 on this one so It's about $100 less than my "In Production" and seriously delayed M18x R2. The reasons for it being a bit cheaper are because I didn't include a mouse or MS Office this time. I need all of the wiggle-room I can get for this upgrade. During the "fire-sale" on R2's my Dell rep threw in a processor upgrade and extended the service an extra 2 years on-site from the included one. If the rep can work his magic again and give me an extra year or two on the warranty I'm gonna pull the trigger on the M18. If he can't cut me a deal, I'll continue to wait for the R2. -
I'm wondering if anyone else in here is in the same boat -
My M18x R2 is supposed to ship TODAY and be in my hands TOMORROW! This, of course, has happened before where I've arrived at my delivery date only to have it pushed back by a few weeks but I'm crossing my fingers … again.
On a side-note: My Dell rep has been much harder to get ahold of recently. I've asked him a number of times to quote me on the new model (see previous post) and I'm not getting much help. Two days ago he told me that since my laptop was "In Production" we couldn't just cancel the order and order the new model. He said I would need to recieve the laptop, send it back to them (???!!), and then order the new model. I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time believing or understanding any of this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated -
My order was pushed back to the 11th of July. I was required to either accept the change in delivery date or cancel the order. I cancelled the order by phone. The rep I spoke with cancelled the M18x R2 but was really pushing me to consider changing/upgrading to an equivalent M18. Pretty funny since my original Dell rep wasn't really interested in working with me in that regard.
So I have ordered an M18 and it's a BEAST!
Short list of specs:
i7-4900MQ (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
32GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM) + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5 - NVIDIA SLI® Enabled
2-Year On-Site Support, etc .
I also got a $200.00 Dell Gift Card
All of this for a grand total of $3950.00
Not. Too. Shabby. -
Yeah man, you wouldnt want the older machine now that the new ones are out eh? You've gone for the same spec as me apart from the ram.
-
Yup, same spec as me apart from the ram (16gig for me) and I did the 3 year warranty. I think the 4900MQ is plenty fast enough but will miss overclocking. However the 3 year warranty will cover me and possibly put me into the Maxwell GPus if my GPUs take a dump in 3 years. These systems are BEAST for sure; especially at 1080p. I can't wait to see the improved screen. The facebook pictures showing some viewing angles look VERY promising. I am just worried about the cooling. I really hope they didn't skimp.....
-
From what I've heard/read the cooling looks like its been improved. But who knows, right?
I got the extra RAM because I'm buying this primarily for 3D modeling & animation (lots of background rendering too), after effects, premier, photoshop, etc ... I'll be doing my share of gaming on it though.
Hopefully I'll get more than a couple of productive years out of this thing. -
Would you spend $500.00 more to get the i7-4930MX cpu?
-
If you can afford it... Definitely
