    Thanks once again sir...

Can you give me a crash course on what the relevant settings are to attempt going over 39x? is it on Advanced CPU? in your opinion, what would you have me try :)

    I'm all ears :D

    Hi guys

i am still running on A00, but i think i am getting some stability problems, or it doesnt?

When i am overclocking my GTX580m to 750/1900 and sometimes even lower in Vantage my FPS dropped to below 10 for 2 or 3 second, and then rocketted to 120-130 in a flash, and back to normal.

is this because of the overclock or because BIOS A00 does not support GTX580m ?

And what is this throttle? is it the sudden FPS drop? how to see this? i dont think my temps went over 70 at all on all my tests without fan, and with tilting my m18x.

Sorry for all the noobness :(

so this is the official modded bios release, everything is permanently unlocked any known problems with this bios release for the m18x? i read about some people using a hex editing method to mod there bios'es any difference between both methods, or is this baby good to go?

it's good to go for the most part. but if your looking to go super extreme..then hex editing would be a part of that.

you''ll do fine with just running this version.

should you run into problems with settings and the laptop doesn't want to come on..then just take the battery out and unplug for 30 seconds...then put battery in and plug in power and it should revert back to a working state.

    side note:
    1: usb flash drive
    2: bios recovery file

    just incase.

Is there any reason to consider a BIOS upgrade if one has no plans to overclock? The ole saying starts out, "if it ain't broke......."..

46/47/48/49/50X multipliers, throttle temps over 90C are not possible without the hex editing. The method is documented well on how to perform the procedure.

Exactly there was absolutely nothing broken that the unlocked bios fixes... it simply allows finer tuning relatively close to what you would see in a desktop minus just a couple power related options inside the cpu. But wholly it is a a bios that allows all "limiters" to be removed.

oo i didnt check if there was the option to change the command rate from 1T to 2T vice versa. i wonder if it has that. and lower voltage? as in cpu voltage for non-xm? dont think i saw that.

you can lower the current thus lowering the cpu draw..undervolting

not sure about t1/t2 but you can change timings...not sure what you ram can run at. and i have the same ram as well. i think i got it to like 8-9-9 or something like that

I was hoping there is a A03 unlocked flash somewhere. A program where all i have to do is run it and let the program do all the work. Does something like this exists?

yeah, you dont need to flash your cards or your bios at this time.
you can over clock using bclk in the bios you have now.

    Hi!!

I'm about to get my laptop and I'm thinking of installing this bios. With the following configuration:
    2960XM
    6990M
    8GB 1866MHz
I am interested in the bios if I can achieve a higher overclock than the standard, but without having to make the hex editor method.
I mean, I've read all the pages of the thread and what you say there are some values that can only be changed by the hex editor method.
The factory overclock is only applied to a core or otherwise applied to the 4 cores?
I wonder what are the values that I have to change in the bios and what values are safe. If you know any overclocking guide for beginners in the world of the sandy-bridge would be great.
I'm not looking for extreme overclocking.
Any configuration step by step to improve serial overclock an easy way?

    Thank you very much!

Thank you for answering, ok, it's clear there is no more risk in using this bios instead of official ones.

Could you tell me your bios settings to reach 4.83 Ghz On That 2960XM? Did you use hex editor?
Is that config suitable for 24/7? Or just for benching?
That frequency is applied to 4 cores? Or just one?
Did you have to change TDP, voltages, thermal threshold or whatever?

Sorry I'm trying to learn about this stuff as faster as I can, but I need some advices.

    Thank you very much! :)

    I've got some question:

You mean that this config it is not suitable without having experience testing it? Or you mean that your config is out of my possibilities as it requires the hex editor method? (which I don't want to try until pass sometime.)

I'm burning you with questions but I hope you do not mind and have patience with me hehe :p

Which risk has your config if I applied it to my rig?

Do you have some pics of your bios settings with 24/7 config running?

If someone could help me besides johnksss, I do not want to abuse his patience.

Thank you very much again! You are helping me so much!

it's sort of like driving a Lamborghini for the first time....you cant just jump in and say "230 mph please" and expect you to really be able to pull that off... :D

i mean...you haven't even tried to start with factory over clocking first? or have you and i missed it?

start there first and slowly work your way up.

I agree with John. Use the default settings as they won't cause damage to your system. Until you fully understand what each setting does and the damage you can potentially cause, don't play with those mods - especially if you have a perfectly working system. Dell has been sending out total crap for replacement systems lately. Check out the problems we're having with thermal system shutdowns and cold boot bugs.

105 BCLK * 46 multiplier is over 4.8ghz. Unless you live outdoors in Antarctica, I would advise against trying to run at those settings 24/7. I usually drop my laptop into a deep freezer at those settings to do extreme benchmarking, then back to level 3 overclock for 24/7.

exactly what nick said. mine isn't sitting in a freezer, bu i do have all c1e settings on. and im in now way running all 4/8 at 4.8 ghz 100 percent of the time. i have other machines for that. i have that in the sig to show that it is possible. had a few members looking at my machine through teamviewer to show that it was running that. but again...for testing/personal use only. i then drop down to stock speeds and call it a day... :). i even run the igpu most of the time...haha

4.4ghz 0flex c-states off all 4/8 97watt 305amp (you can use higher watts and lower amps but either way something has to limit how long it will run without dropping speed in high loads like linX. It is not a prob since there is not a lot of added heat but as you go towards what like John is saying at 4.8ghz... you need more flex voltage and more heat is created so 24/7 wouldn't be a good idea. been running that for quite awhile and it doesn't over heat for me. SSD performance is improved when full time max ghz. So is every action you do on the computer... if cpu clocks down to 800-2.7ghz since it wasn't a high load... it't not going to complete as fast as the cpu that didn't drop its speed. if you can keep temps low enough c-states off has its benefits even on mobile. IBT and Prime etc drop the speed all else it stays 4.4ghz even wprime. temps stay in check. BF3 Ultra and Skyrim All Ultra with no msaa + HD Texture Addons no drop for over a day of play straight...

This thread is for the previous model of M18x. If you have M18x R2 with A03 that is already the latest (thought not "unlocked").
