So after reinstalling drivers i forgot to switch on sli before running crysis 3. As i played not realizing this i thought dang the game doesn't lag/ fps going up and down like crazy. Of course i wasn't hitting as high frames as i did with 2 cards but i wasn't having huge drops either. And even in areas where it showed both cards being used at 90 percent or higher and frames were 50 or higher i was still getting around 40 frames or higher with one card and didn't suffer with one card with those nasty fps drops. So at the moment, this game is horribly optimized for sli, probably only getting maybe at 10 to 15 percent increase with sli even when it shows both cards be fully used. Quite a shame cause the game is gorgeous. Mp plays great though, kinda of wierd, its usually the other way around, sp plays great, mp needs help. Guess the devs spent all their time on the mp and then said, lets throw sp in there for the hell of it.

Do you really mean Crysis, or Crysis 3? I don't see any patch for Crysis 3 and the latest patch for Crysis is from 2011.

That sucks as it's a multi player patch......nothing about single player fixes.

But this means they're working on it. I'm sure, since they are well aware of the single players issues, they will release a patch for that soon enough. I think they just prioritized, since the majority of gamers are focused on the multiplayer for now. I'm positive it's on our way.

C3 runs actually really great on two 7970m in cfx. all Settings at very high except AA (here fxaa) min 45fps max 90 fps and average 57fps. the beta6 has a really good cfx-profile, which hits the cards every time to 99% usuage :) for users they have an unlocked bios installed: u have to enable smt (hyperthreading) in bios, because the game benefits of those virtual cpus. there is also a mod from maldo available that increases the ht-performance and uppers the image Quality if you want. i hope those tips will help you to get a better Performance.

Yeah, it could be argued that a 5 hours game isn't worth 60 bucks. But then again, we're all guys that are fine with paying thousands on laptops lol. The graphics are worth the price of admission by themselves. Nothing else out there looks as good... you spent a hefty chunk of change on hardware so you can play games just like this one... What's 60 bucks more to really find out what your hardware can do? :)

Yes, we own amazing gaming machines and want to see them crunching games :) Thing is that even in spite of the great developing effort and the investment behind a game like Crysis nowadays titles are indeed over-priced. Either we get them right away and pay for it, or wait until the price drops and becomes more reasonable and affordable.

As far as the campaign goes I agree that it was unexpectedly quite short. Even though this doesn't take it away from the amazing visual experience, great action, and drama (yup, you heard me, just play and see), the shortness of this third installment got me a pang of disappointment--in comparison with the former game it feels more like a Crysis 2 expansion. Well, we are never happy aren't we? :p

LOL, I'm right there with you. I loaded my Origin shopping cart at least 4 times today with Crysis 3 Digital Deluxe Edition. I just cannot stand the idea of paying $80 for that, or $60 for the standard version. At my preferred price point, that's enough for 3 or 4 games that I could purchase, and I know I'll be able to pick it up at a sale for only $20 to $25 in another 6 to 9 months.

Nice vid. I made my own, but I gave up on uploading it since it took 2 hours for 30 seconds of video, and I recorded about 20 minutes. Looks like cfx handles Crysis 3 really well though.

Tired the new patch, gaines 2-3 avarage FPS so now its stable over 10 with everything on very high excpent shading/shadow and blur off along with FXAA.

At this speed I might be able to enjoy 30 FPS at christmas :D

Everything maxed out, except turned off completely AA (if I max this out I drop to 20 fps :s).
Also have this AA problem with Far Cry 3, get loads of FPS when completely turned off, but when I turn it on, the FPS drops significantly to also 40-45fps.

Getting between 40-45fps on average with a SLI 680 setup in Crysis 3 now.
Come on NVidia, ATI owners had enough fun, now unleash it! Don't make me grab my m17x :p

8xMSAA is extremely demanding, it generally cuts frame rates in half from my experience. I'm surprised it killed your performance that much though. I played a few levels at 8x and the lowest I saw was 30fps, with an average around 40. I don't seem to be experiencing any performance issues or stuttering, either (aside from underutilization during some cutscenes and at select points in the game.)

How many cpu cores does the game use? Anybody checked that yet? All this under utilization of the gpu's is probably caused by the game not being properly multicore optimized as is the case with almost all console ports.

The engine uses up to 8 cores. it is one of the less games where a amd fx-cpu is faster than a Intel core i7 quad. otherwise the game uses also smt (hyperthreading) and scales very good with the core frequency. with nv_inspector i would try a another sli-bit to get more performance.

btw. read this - maybe it helps to understand http://maldotex.blogspot.de/

Nvdias next Beta driver is likely to fix these issues. 680m sli can still put out far superior performance when overclocked compared to the 7970m cfx in many other games. No reason to think crysis 3 will be any different.

Let's stick to the topic, please. We shouldn't really care which card is better, considering that the subject has already been plenty covered here in this forum and... everywhere else on the net. I find it silly that there's still "my card is better than yours" kind of attitude around. All we should be hoping is that both solutions will always perform well in games (a reminder that we are a nice community here, whose members are willing to help each and not show hostility toward who may have a different configuration or still hasn't achieved optimal performance in games). Now, in regards of Crysis 3 it appears that NVIDIA doesn't translate well certain in-game code or (un)optimizations; reason why all 'M18x brotherhood' should show support and hope all the brothers across this board will be able to play and enjoy the game asap. No need to make Crysis 3 an umpteenth motive for division or competition--there's a fantastic and well-organized benchmark thread here if you feel competitive or want to push your rig's limits and compare your result with others. You have an AMD card and are happily enjoying the game? Good for you bro! Just wish green-carded owners will be able to to do the same soon

    Peace

This is why I posted how my setup was performing.

I installed beta 7. There's a small performance boost, but I am mostly noticing that the framerate is more constant and not drifting around as much.

No go man. Buyer backed out on eBay, and then SemiGamer let a Dell 7970M go for a song, so I'm back to CrossFire. I still have that 680M heatsink giving me the evil eye from my computer desk though.

I know. The driver itself is just for cfx-users only. single-gpu users have problems with performance and stability.

On my machine (signature) it makes no difference whether or not I play it on High or Very High with MSAA x2. It feels exactly the same. Which is near butter-smooth, except in action-packed moments. I think my CPU is bottlenecking the game, since I checked the GPU temps after and it never maxed out its temps (it usually maxes out at around 82 celsius but for crysis it was staying at 76). The CPU, however, was absolutely maxed at 95 celsius for multis of 26/25/22/20. If you guys are having performance issues, that's just weird.

I went ahead and broke from my tradition of not paying more than $20 for a game. I really hate that I spent a lot on it, but it's definitely an awesome game. I can still say that Crysis is my favorite game franchise of all time. I stopped at the Alpha Ceph being set loose. I played for 6 hours after work, so it's time for bed, LOL.

It seems to play pretty well for me, though. Incredible image quality and as smooth as glass. No complaints even with moderate frame rates. I saw some lower than great FPS, but no stuttering or choppiness to speak of. This is with Forceware 314.07, stock core and memory on GPUs and 4.0GHz on CPU.

Way to go Fox - I had a feeling you couldn't quite resist this one!. It's quite weird that the game is so smooth even at low frame rates. As I said before, playing at 2560x1600 I see frames drop down sometimes to mid 20's and occasionally a bit lower but the game remains totally smooth with no stutter or anything that would make the experience disappointing. I hope for even better things to come, when Nvidia and Crytek nail down the early problems that team green have experienced.

Well, in my case i can identify framerate drops by input lag. When it drops, i start getting a feeling that the input feels slower. Not by much though. And the game still looks perfectly smooth. I'm guessing frame latencies must be completely even, since i've not had even a single case of stutter.

I get the same feeling when I hit my throttle point. There is not much beyond buying an alienware that I can do to improve it any further however :p
