Vantage would need a CPU @ 4.5Ghz+ to bust 40K, no?

IB is a 2K jump alone so 40K will be do-able with a 3920XM OC and a 7970M CFX OC.

yes Fox ill be over clocking lol since you taught me how to do it lol..

and my 2960 runs stable at 4.5ghrz all thought the temps stay at around 50-60c at idle and peak at about 80-95 at max load..
but i dont see a need to stay that high so ive reverted back to stock speeds..

Oh I see! Right because I have a ES 7970m at the moment and I'm waiting for the OEM vbios. I seem to recall this time last year ES 6970m's could be unlocked with OEM vbios :D I'm not hoping for that though but it'll be good to have the official vbios :)

What do you mean proper drivers?
Has AMD not released any proper ones for the 7970m?

no, they have not released drivers yet..

So I called amd looking to see when they were going to have drivers up on there site and this is what i was told..and I quote..
We do not know when the drivers will be available.. what we provide are reference drivers and that's all..we do not make the cards that go into to laptops we only make the chip sets and each individual company codes there own drivers to suite there own needs.. 5 minute hold... lady comes back.. I asked again for a copy of the drivers or when they would be made available.. i was told the same thing again..and also told that laptops are not there priority and there is no time frame on when they will be made available..

I then asked the rep how they could slap there name on a GPU made for a laptop or system and she told me and i quote.. we do not make laptop graphics cards we only provide the chips.. chip sets to the laptop manufacturers.. it is on them what they want to do with those chip sets..and how they want there graphics cards assembled and what specs those said cards will have.. after they assemble the cards we make a reference driver for the card..and its not guaranteed to work.. it is on the manufacturer of the laptop to make the drivers..
and then I was told that they are a busy company and is there any thing else i needed.. I was a little shocked at her rudeness and bluntness and did not respond for a second or two and she immediately told me thanks for calling and to have a nice day and hung up abruptly.

I have stopped questioning driver support by AMD, that's just how they are, slow... their Catalyst Creator team needs a rework.

People at AMD and NVIDIA are often rude and abrupt to customers. To them we are "end users" and not customers. They market their products through other channels and don't have much accountability to the people using the products. That's why our community liaison with people like Bill, Federico and Chris is so important. AMD and NVIDIA answer only to their customers... Dell/Alienware, HP, Clevo, etc.
That subject makes my blood boil. I seldom use the word incompetent, but I think it is particularly fitting for their driver development team. Once you find an AMD driver that works great, it's best to leave it alone as long as possible.

Since when were laptops custom builds for the general population? Dell sold 7970M cards early before any official driver support, how can you blame AMD for this?

Another thing is, while I agree that AMD could have a better driver support, it's not like we absolutely must jump on every new driver update. I'm still on the 11.8, rock solid and no issues.

Yeah, give Dell/AMD some time and they will offer decent drivers. It's not like you can't use the 7970's. Even with the immature drivers the cards absolutely murder everything. At this point I'd just enjoy gaming and stop bothering about benches.

ok first off.. the old drivers do not work for this card at all.. that is why we need a fresh set of drivers.

also i just talked to Fedirico and he said the R2 drivers will release next week..
the r4 drivers is what he said to use for now..but the problem is that it does not install ccc or any thing that i can tell.. when running those drivers windows still read generic gpus..

DumbDumb has already posted multiple times that the drivers are not working/will not install. It would be kind of pointless to run benchmarks if the video cards are only using standard Windows display drivers.

DumbDumb, i have the drivers in a disk on my desk.

i was about to upload to media fire, but the archive is 289megs...so it exceeds my 200meg file limit

If you have another service you can recommend, i will upload the drivers to you.

THese are crossfire 7970m drivers used in 7970m xfire testing on ES m18x r2. i don't know if they are any different from those currently offerred by dell but it may be worth a look

    do a custom install.

Then look at the list of available things to install.

Is the "Display Driver" on the list?

ok here is what i get..

when it goes to install i do custom and see
    this,,

then when i check the install location the directory is empty but created..
    like this..

but right above it in program files i see a folder called ati and inside of it i see this..

    so i am confused..very confused..
also when it starts installing it is done in like 2 seconds flat and it says warnings were issued see log file but upon looking at the log file there are no warning or errors..

i can play some games with the mod driver that are not correct but most things bsod.. minecraft bsods rite when you start it up..blue screen and a dump..

also as a note.. I try to update the driver and point to the folder with your drivers i have saved on my desktop and it says that the best driver is installed wich is the vga generic ones..

Have you check your event viewer for possible warnings or errors? I'm not sure if this will make a difference since it has creating folders, but right click the setup.exe and select Run as Administrator and go from there.

I have been following this thread from day one and i got to say...what a hassle, I honesty thought upgrading would just be remove old drivers, pllug in new card, install new drivers. Good luck dumbdumb, I hope it gets much easier by the time I decide to upgrade to 680m's...
