Ouch, that does sound familiar. I remember the ATI 4870's didn't have as bad a latency issue in the R1 as the Nvidia cards. Did the engineers learn nothing? Especially after all the replacement R2's that were issued for latency affected R1's?

Dunno M8. We haven't checked the drivers extensively yet but the initial impression is not too inspiring. I didn't even mean to bother with the DPCLat Checker but seeing very mild stuttering in 3DMark... So I ran the checker in the background and got a 100k spike in 06

We could do (or maybe its just me?) with some stock "Dell Driver" results and then AMD driver results as there is a massive difference between the two. I recall updating my drivers to AMD and the scores jumped a heck of alot. Same would go for those with 580m Sli...purely to see how much "better or worse" the newer gpu options are over and above the 6970m's. My stock results with Dell drivers (for my 6970m's) were as follows:

    Vantage
    Mark 11
    3dMark06 for kicks !!

    Nice figures btw eCake......

Phenomenal scores... at this point there's no reason to tweak anything. Wait until someone catches up with you. It's hard to hit a moving target... keep 'em guessing what your best is. :)

I have the 580Ms in SLI, would anyone know how I could monitor them? I just want to know they are both working in a game. Seeing the temps of each card might be a good way, but I can't seem to find out how to do that.

I find one fan comes on full blast, but the second (I presume) card's fan doesn't seem to be on at all.

Hmm, I found hwinfo tried to kill my computer. But thanks. I've since found NVidia already have it perfectly covered with the Show SLI Visual Indicator setting. Absolute brilliance that.

Both cards working evenly. Also used GPU-Z to see both reaching the same temps, so i guess that's good.

The computer went black and would not respond. Then after a bit the system restarted and said it had blue-screened.

Room is 22.3 (so my watch says). Card idle is around 52-53ºC. Climbs to around 65ºC after playing Crysis for a little while.

Same here... have tried it on multiple systems and never a good result. RealTemp and CoreTemp also do a nice job. RealTemp monitors both CPU and GPU temps with a nice tray display.

Haven't run 3dmark11 yet, but as ppl say it's the fps ingame that count not the 3dmark scores, as you can see the Nvidia 580m out performs the hd6990 in call of prypiat ( s.t.a.l.k.e.r. ) BENCHMARK lol :)

Anyone care to work out the percentage between this and page 87 :)

To me it looks like the stock nvidia card is still killing the overclocked hd6990m & this explains why the nvidia card is at a premium price over the hd6990m.

call of prypiat ( s.t.a.l.k.e.r. ) BENCH MARK comparison 6990M CF vs 580M SLI at stock GPU speeds:

    Day - 11.7% 580M SLI
    Night - 15.7% 580M SLI
    Rain - 11.2% 580M SLI
    Sun shafts - 26.4% 580M SLI

So 580M SLI wins in the average of 16.25% in STALKER! Any other game to test? The most demanding now are Crysis 2 and The Witcher 2))

Speedy - tried your suggestions and results were slightly better with my current Trixx settings. Even when I drop memory clocks to stock, I cannot exceed about 815 to 820 on core clocks without freezing or crashing to a black screen. I am attributing this to my Alien OS installation and running the older 11.6 drivers (8.861.0.0) to keep Aero working. Furmark runs stable without overheating on current settings. Will do a clean install and see how Aero behaves with newer drivers in the near future.

Only had time for a quick S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat bench before work. This is on stock core and memory clocks on my 6970 CFX. Will crank it up tonight and see how it goes. Will also do a stock/OC comparison on RE5 and AVP benchmarks.

Something is wrong with this benchmarks because if this is right you kill the 580m with the 6970m lol. and @bar code yes fps in games is what matters but this is the benchmark thread so we run all benchmarks here :p

@Mr Fox congrats on getting better results but i think you can still do more with the fresh install :)

Aikimox, if it's any consolation, my best SuperPi 1M with a first Gen core-i is around 10.2 sec. Though I don't think superpi is that optimized for the current hyperthreading chips. :( Nice score though. 9min 40sec is about my best for SuperPi 32M as well. Don't remember exacts, but they are on hwbot.org under DR650SE.

The thing is, I can't have both the 4.5GHz turbo and 3.7+ x 4 cores. If all the multi's are set to 45 the 4 core ratio drops to 3.2Ghz and I get low Wprime scores. If I lower the max turbo to 4.2-4.3 I can keep the 4 core ratio @ 3.7Ghz

Great score, man) seems like there's some wird things going on for 580M's, why can't anyone go further than 724Mhz on the core? This is weird indeed! Could you try to leave memory at stock 1500Mhz and only increase the core for the GPU's...

@Aikimox, Ahh, gotcha. I don't know too much about SB. :(

580Ms probably don't overclock as well because the limited voltage they do have is being used to power more shaders which equals less overhead room for OCing.

So which card (AMD or Nvidia) is leading now - 6990s or 580s??
Heard some rumors about 580s SLI having a lot and visible microstutter issues vs. AMD6990s.

Soon, notebookcheck.net will test real 6990m cards in a controlled environment and the results are final. IMO.

The 580m has a custom bios out and can over volt. There is no telling on an internet forum who has what or not.

My game plan was and is to take a stock, out of the box, m18x with dell drivers, bios, and voltages to its limit.

With the information I post anyone with an m18x has the capability to reproduce with their own, similarly equipped, m18x.

In My Opinion it has been proven that a customer considering the purchase of a m18x can expect very similar, out of the box performance, from the 6990m CF and the 580m SLI.

Nice score. Thanks for the the 580m score's I havent seen many.

I'm still out of the box stock dell and have not updated my drivers nor mod my bios. But I have installed a non dell program to overclock my GPU's but they are not overvolted.

    Is your setup the same?

    Have you updated your drivers?

If so thats cool..... but if not your scores would be that out of the box comparison Ive been looking for.

    Thanks
    BDR
