Guys! Wish I could start a new thread about 2-piped HS + non-extreme CPU!

I've just put the 2630QM back with a 2-piped HS and the max temps in Prime95 are 68C! Room 29C - INSANE!

Nice! That's impressive. How's prime95 compared to wprime 1024 in stress testing? I've never used prime95 oddly enough.

So anyone looking to lower cpu temps is better off just getting a dual pipe heatsink. Much more efficient than a simple repaste.

What's the price tag on a dual pipe?

    Nice find.

Wprime is about the same in heating up the CPU but it reaches the peak temp faster than Prime95.

The 2-piped HS is 20$ in the US.

BTW, the most important conclusion is that our 4-piped HS project has good reason to continue. If the dual HS manages to lower temps by ~10C, we can expect another 5-10C off from the 2920XM load temps when OC'ed with the 4-piped one.

I will forward the findings to our thermal app. engineer tomorrow.

    @Fox - Nice scores!

@Aikimox, Dual pipe is much more effective than a repaste. If Im diassembling the system, and from what i gather its not as easy as an R2, Im growing in a dual. Just so much more effective. Well of course Id repaste while in there.

Thanks, DR650SE - I'm happy with them. No heat issues, even with the factory paste job on the CPU and GPUs.

Do you have an M18x on the way, or just thinking about it? Disassembly is not as simple as the R2... it's not extremely difficult, but a lot more screws of varying sizes and a little more patience and care is needed to not break the bezel surrounding the keyboard.

Not sure what ill end up with. Still waiting on the box to arrive from Dell so i can ship it back to Dell. I know both gpu's are dead, as well as the motherboard. So well see if the offer a replacement in the form of an M18x or just another R2. Im kinda hoping for the M18x although i will seriously miss the 16:10 and RGB. If they offer a replacement, i May try and push for nvidia cards. Guess it all depends on if they have any R2 systems left.

Roughly ~3-5k to develop properly. Just for reference, you pay thermal application engineers 250$/hr. I'd like to make things right and not just glue 4 pipes, that's why it's expensive. The idea is to rebuild the HS from scratch given the available dimensions and maximize the heat transfer rates at peak load (80-100W, 70-90C). In addition, each heatsink would probably cost much more than the 2-piped one.

It could be your HWiNFO software causing that. I was having several issues with 3DMark11 and Vantage as well as hanging during system shutdown. All of that started with HWiNFO and ended when I uninstalled it. It could also be your clocks are too high and you're just getting lucky with timing on finishing the bench before it crashes. Settings of 900/1175 would lock up my system tighter than a drum.

So, can I send him the 2-piped HS with instructions on modifications?

On a side note, I made another discovery! - 2630QM+ 2-piped HS = the CPU fan is NOT SPINNING during normal office mode. Passive cooling, lol!

Hey guys, Its a Winfo issue ... erg. The program allows me to run the fans hard enough to run a 900/1200 vantage but it locks up.

I ran at 865/1175 with HWinfo on and the same thing happened.
Ran the same clocks without HWinfo. No problem.

And yes it also lock during shutdown if I have run HWinFO ...

Also my Vantage Scores have dropped with 11.8 Beta drivers from Dell Stock ... kind of disappointed.

While part of me is very sad for you, also sort of relieved to hear that there's nothing unusual going on with my system. Sounds like identical behavior. Glad we could find a quick answer... that's always a good thing. If running the fans that hard is the only thing between those high clocks and a lockup, your system will probably last longer if you back down just a tad. Scoring a few extra points isn't worth bricking your Alien.

However you want to say it... SICK, BAD, KILLER... whatever, that just awesome. Congrats on the score, man! :) I was not prepared for being hit with the level of jealousy reading that precipitated. I don't know if I actually turned green with envy, but probably did.

Actually, I have 18 tabs open in Chrome right now. Been browsing like that for the past 1hr 50min and still have 3hr 13min remaining. Won't beat the record but will surely get 5hrs

In addition, no tweaking was done this time. If you turn off Bluetooth, LAN, WirelessHD, etc and kill most useless processes, 5:30-6hrs can be reached

    My screen is anti-glare ;)
