Anyone here have 580m SLI and a 2920xm that can do a vantage/11 run at 4ghz with your everyday gpu overclocks?

Awesome, you got an 870 / 1200 run off as well.

Are you using something for fan control or just some cooling of some sort ?

Using the AC to get that GPU stable John?

I have not decided how I will approach sub-ambient cooling yet

I was thinking either portable AC or chest freezer

After I am not poor any more I may get that small chest freezer just for benching haha

Of course the fact that absolutely no one wants to buy my very well priced desktop parts is not helping anything along :(

Dayumm John! Nice runs +1 I really need to get my hands on a 6990m for my R3, with the runs I threw with a 6970m 17k or possibly 17.5k is very doable looking at that.

John, given that we will hit the TDP threshold using multipliers alone, do you still think it is necessary to boost the bclk when overclocking (obviously on the 2920xm)? The memory alone should be enough of a reason should it?

it all helps. bclk is a system wide over clock. but what's good about there is....they can do 90 percent benching while just sitting on the desk. gotta love that.

erg so I got a 3dmark11 run off at 870 1210 ... but it actually gave me a slightly lower score ...

I can't seem to push my core clock over 870 ... its not a temp issue, temps are fine, but 3dmark11 simply wont start. The starting screen pops up with the sideways moving bar, and it just hangs on that screen .... any thoughts ?

So I feel like a third wheel here with the 580 SLI :( but as a point of reference where are we with 580 SLI? I been sorting through this chain and I only found a few of 580M's most of which don't post benchmarks.

    I'm going to be running:

    Vantage
    3DMark 2011
    Heaven Dx11 2.5

Anything else hot right now to have some comparison?

Outch that hurts even more you are one of the lucky people who get them for free as you see I love Nvidia graphics but not the prices now if you didn't pay extra .......

that is the sad part sometimes we have no money but we still use that credit card on special situations :D
feel free to post all the benchmarks you want because this thread is intended for that and congrats on getting such a nice machine ;)

Take no offence i'm clearly joking, I wish my ALX was half the machine you got....

As far as 580GTX SLI, I feel dumb even having this setup, seems like the 6990M are smoking it regardless of being cheaper... so not sure exactly why the 580m aren't the ones costing less.... oh well

You don't have to feel that way if the 580's prob to be better in a lot of games and since you didn't pay extra is amazing also you can flash your cards and up the voltage something we cant do you also have cuda and physx ;)

Headed to pick up my R2 at Fedex in and hour. Dell had super quick turn around time. Hoping I hot a better mobo this time.

One another note, Verizon Fios is dealing with a strike. Waited over three weeks for installation and two days before i get a call saying its now to be determined. They seriously need to hire scabs. I can't even call customer service because the don't have any one working there. Bi%#hs. Ill continue being bored  /rant

Scook, are you using any other cooling get? when do you plan to hit the freezer? That should help a bit. I think Johns on the a/c

John if you can hit 885mhz with 1120 shaders, my 6970s should be able to hit 900mhz. That will be my new goal.

Interesting. Are you sure you are running the RAM at the right speeds/latency?

I just ran the PerformanceTest out of curiousity, here are my results. I didn't stop any background processes and had a web browser, steam, etc. open so i'm sure this isn't a peak score either, this is Kingston HyperX 1600 running at a slight overclock due to higher BCLK, using XMP Profile 2:

over clock you cpu from bios. set it and go... :)
they have to be cold, you know that. :)
depends on the bench..not all clocks work good across all benches.

not to burst anyone's overclocking bubble, but i have to get some truth out there. if you are only using 3dmark11 and heaven benchmark to test for OC stability, you need to go the extra mile.

i can put these 6990m's at 850+ core easily and pass these tests all day long. but as soon as i launch crysis 2 dx 11 ultra settings there are artifacts. at the end of the day i had to get off my high and come to a realization that a core of 825 is max for my cards since i care about stability more than anything.

i think maybe your getting benching mixed up with quality benching. these numbers are pretty much for speed only! the whole purpose of spending on these cards was to NOT have to over clock to play a game. if you have to go into ccc and start changing stuff..you will NOT get the right settings in most games. and the list to this stuff goes on and on...
