very minimal, but to benching..that counts. to a gamer..means virtually nothing.
    (personal opinion only)
    did it work?

Hit the link in my sig for a breakdown of different mem speeds with sandy bridge. And the desktop and laptop chips are identical but for tdp and multipliers.

Yea, that's the one I already read. If the same holds true with the mobile chips then I might just go for the 1866 and get the extra points.

Heres an old bench that yields high numbers. ;)
    :p

M18x should be able to get over 200FPS across the board I reckon.

Edit: added a couple other benches for comparison! All settings maxed out.

    Cheers. :)

Anybody with M18x with these benches for comparison?

called dell. they want to me to send it in. was going to have a tech come out, but not sure what else may or may not be wrong. and since i have business class. everything gets expedited.

had 6970s that did 865/1180 in benches. yours seem like their top notch though. 6990s at 870/1200 would be really really fast. should surpass gtx 580s due to their thermal cap.

i think once i get my machine back and run a few benches...i'll open up just what to do for all extremes to do the same. and with the power mod in place by da_g we might be able to bring the AW past the clevo in vantage (580M)
it's possible to run a 47/48/49x multiplier and da_g just proved that you can run 40x across the board on an oem. yes, things are looking good.

    thanks sir!

Those are some sick 6970s ....

Yea if I had the CPU to back these things up I am betting I could break 9K 3dmark 11 ... I am pretty sure I can break 9k 3dmark 11 GPU score, but when I finally had a day to do it this week I kept getting a weird error, JohnK gave me a fix though so next day I have ... I am breaking the 9K gpu score ...

youd need 930mhz+ to break 9k overall 3dmark. 8.5k~ should be the limit of the current 6990/2920xm setups.

well i think johnk has broken 8.5k ... and he has OC'd his CPU beyond since, and i have i think a little more in my gpu score ... just saying if i can get a 9k gpu... if I had the cpu to back it up ... should be awesomeness ... but maybe yur right, would be crazy if we were cpu limited in 3dmark11 with 2920xms though .... that just sounds ,,,, crazy ...

Shaden have you played with the settings in the bios anymore for your CPU? I also watched that youtube video you shared and there are some differences that have made me leary of keeping any changes I made. I did find I could push well past the 103 that the uploader did on his rig. However some of the settings are different. I think it was the "Short Duration PWR limit" was set to "Enabled" on the 2630 and on my 2720 it says "28." So I don't know what I am supposed to do. I just used my "gut" (not smart) and did the other directions and raised the bus to 106. It did raise GPU score to 21K on vantage but no other real benefit from the raised clocks. I'm trying to find someone with a 2720 and figure otu what they did to achieve a stable OC and what settings they were using. Too bad about fan manipulation as you pointed out...who cares about fans. They are rated for like 20K hours of continuous use and would be the last thing to fail on the system. Obviously they know AW users manipulate settings so it is even crazier to think that would be a deterrent as lower temps, equal lower failure.

Zero, what settings are you using to get your CPU at that level? I have the same one and cannot fully understand the overclocking options. I know not to go over "56" except for the "Short duration pwr limit" to set at 99 instead of 56. Can you explain what you did for that OC? thanks

short duration for me is disabled. and not all 2720qm can hit 105 base clock. some hit 103. some hit 104, and some 105+. i maxed out long duration to 80 watts and just left it like t hat. the cpu should never hit 80watts so 3.145ghz is on 24/7.

Short PWR Duration for me is set to 99, I have not really played with my Base clock because the tutorial I posted suggested you couldn't go above 103 ... so ... I didn't. Just found out today some will go higher, as Zero989 noted some will hit 104, 105 even 107 ... so I am about to play with that ...
And yea, limiting the fans is still dumb. Because as you said, we are power users, going to push, so you think building in auto shutdowns for temp to parts makes sense, but limiting the fans, which we would use to keep the units cooler and lengthen their lives ... dumb.

Hrm, so if you disable short term ... what does that do exactly does it make the unit always use long duration settings.... which apparently you are maxing out .... ?

    on your 2630 ?

Did you have short duration power limit on or what was your setup ? feel free to PM me :) lol

This run seems to have registered at 2726MHz ... but still with a -very- mild Over clock (850/1150) on the GPUs, a very decent Vantage score

    AMD Radeon HD 6970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 score: P23298 3DMarks

    23300 with a 25402 GPU ...

    CPU of 18660....

Thats a gain of 1660 on CPU score from OC ... pretty nice compated to stock, just by changing the Bclk

i didnt change any of that stuff with my 2630. i just ran it as is. i was to damn excited about putting in the 2920xm...lol
then my excitement turned to drama because i had that cheesy single pipe heat sink.

side note..most of the time with high over cocks...you can not bench all benches with the same over clock. some will do worse and others will crash...
