    Just lift the bottom of the Cryo up DR650SE, the noise is the fans choking since they have no breathing room

    Hey, guys! Can anybody share the rusults of m18x with 6970m CF with either cpu:
    - everything stock;
    - and only GPU's overclocked?
    Want to see if GPU OC can make the score jump from ~6000 to ~7000 point in 3dmark11) Thanks

    everything stock i was getting ~5500. With only my GPUs OCed to their max of 840/1175 I got 6930 as my highest score. Both with 11.5b drivers. Id post the scores on here but my laptop isn't connected to the internet. Im at work. :)

    Yup, similar results here. Stock 2630QM+CF ~5700. GPU OC'ed -> almost 7k.

    Thanks guys) so just rising the BCLK to 105 on 2720qm could get you another 800 points! That pretty impressive

    So, I got trixx, played about with it but didnt wanna push it too much being a noob at overclocking.

    I set clocks at 800/1150 and scored just under 7k on mark11. My cpu was set to level 3 too.....no bclk increase, stock at 99.80.

    I tried the gpu clocks at 850/1200 but crashed....

    What would be considered a safe bclk increase? - i see 105.00 mentioned a fair bit....

    Also, how the heck do you get 8000+ ?? lol - i know different cards oc differently. I know that 3dmark11 isnt massively dependant upon cpu but thought I would have scored a bit more with my xm.

    Oh, another thing before i forget. When I open trixx, the gpu voltage always shows as 1100 for me yet i havent played with it. Have seen other screenshots with voltage as 800......what gives?

    Hmm tried lifting my cryo and the sound didn't change. Its nice to have the air flowing, but would be nice if it was quieter. Mine sets at the edge of an old table. At least untold o get the resources and time to jack the soon to be inlaws computer desk :p Think those fans would help reduce noise levels?

    Hey, rafix73 is that level 3 OC on your system? How's the temps? Somebody mentioned that if you choose xm processor it comes with dual heatpipes for the CPU, so if i go with 2720qm and decide to upgrade to xm later on i might experience some heat issues, right?

    May be that's your ram holds the system from OC, you'd better get some Kingston hyperx 1600Mhz :)

    The Gentile Typhoon (GT) fans are going to push more air, they get loud though because they are choked. Any fan when you choke its intake gets very loud. The GTs have the potential to be much quieter though in good conditions (while pushing much more air)

    If i increase BCLK to say 105 and have a memory at 1600Mhz its going to OC aswell, but if i purchase 1866Mhz PnP and do the same steps my modules will remain at the rated speeds with no changes? correct me if i'm wrong...

    You are wrong. The Memory has a multiplier just like the CPU does, boosting bclk overclocks both of them

    I'm stuck at 6700 in 3dmark11 with 800/1150 while running lvl 3 oc with a BCLK at 10500. Though it was weird that 3dmark11 reported that my cpu was running at 719mhz which I'm pretty sure is wrong. Either way I don't have a laptop cooler nor do I really feel the need to overclock her to death so early.

    I think most people are satisfied with their 6970m xfire and 2720qm so there is no need to really overclock since everything other than Crysis and Metro can be maxed out. Give the m18x competition like the x7200 Sandy Bridge E coming in November and you will see more overclocking Speedy. That and a game that can bring the m18x to its knees will also encourage some more competition.

    Yes, I think so. As you figured I use level 3 OC, and when the CPU is in full boost the temp ranges between 85/90 C, sometimes it picks at 94 C, but never higher than that.

    Well, I posted before that I had noticed trixx was displaying gpu voltage at 1100. This was on the M18x I have boxed up today.

    I have since installed trixx on the new M18x Ive had sat here and can report that the gpu voltage on this one is displayed as 800 as per the screenshots I had seen posted.

    Weird why the system I am returning in the morning was displaying voltage at 1100.....maybe it was no big deal but oneof the reasons for return was down to gpu temps and kind of "erratic" fans......maybe my gpu/s had some fault as i cant see any other explanation for it....what dya think?

    If anyone is using trixx, I'd be grateful if you can confirm what gpu voltage you get displayed - just to put my mind at ease. Im assuming here that it SHOULD be 800 and not 1100.....

    Could you link how you managed to break 8k. I have my cpu set to lvl 3 oc and 6970 xfire at 810/1150 and only managed to get 6836 in 3dmark11. I think it has to do with my cpu only registering at 3.6mhz whereas yours is stated at 4mhz.

    I adjusted the BCLK to 1399 but anything beyond that and it freezes in the bios. Also when at 1399 BCLK the result page in 3dmark11 shows my 2920xm is running at 3.787Ghz. I'm no overclock pro but I'm quite vexed. I hit 6811 3dmark11 with 1399 BCLK with the first core set to 45. I've also hit a wall not being able to go over 810/1150 with my 6970s.

    Yeah I guess I'll have to actually have to cave in and pick one up if I want to break 7k. I probably got some 6970s that don't feel like going far like scook's. One of these days someone needs to figure out how to get a water cooler small enough to fit in a laptop. We can dream.

    Watercooler would do no good if you do not have the fin surface area to draw heat from the water, otherwise it will just saturate and become useless

    Play with you ccc settings. Turn desolation off/all the way down. Change everything down to maximize fps. That should help. Review all settings and turn them down/off.

    So, I followed your advice and turned everything off in the CCC under 3D application settings -- even "desolation" :p. I set the GPUs at 840/1150 (I didn't feel like pushing more). I ended up with an improved score of 7564. Although this is nothing really special, it shows me that the 6970 CF has good muscles if it's overclocked a bit.

    Many thanks +rep for your advice.
