I'm not running AC cooling at the moment, so I had to lower the CPU overclock to 4.3GHz for Vantage. But, the score is really sweet.

Well, I finally installed that pathetic Windows 8.1 OS for Fire Strike and here is my first crack at it with the Panther 5.

Out of curiosity,
how much of a score difference is there in physics between windows 7 and 8.1?
Also how much of a difference does windows 8.1 make over 7 in fire strike?Mr. Fox likes this. -
I haven't checked with the Panther yet. It was significant with the R2. Fire Strike was considerably better on Windows 8 and 3DMark11 and other benchmarks that require a good physics result were consistently better under Windows 7.

Nice clocks ssj92, DBZ fan no doubt, just wait until you run Aida Extreme's FPU benchmark.
At 4.5Ghz and 1.25v my CPU will reach 85c from 20c in 1-3 second. The heat is so tremendous that no thermal interface can transfer fast enough and the only solution is straight up frigid temps from the get-go. It's why I believe there will never be a HW-E Clevo.
I'm not using stock cooling either.ssj92, Kade Storm, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -

Working on bringing it up higher and I'll do vantage in a bit.

Very nice, brother ssj92! 680M SLI is still a lethal setup, and it still beats everything with a single GPU up to 980M. You need a 3920XM or 3940XM for that beast.
Here was my best 3DMark11 with 680M SLI...

I really want to get an XM cpu for this to bring out some extra performance. Will also need to do dual-psu mod to bring things up further. Looks like my 680Ms need more voltage, they top off with a +360mhz overclock. Any higher and it freezes.
My vantage run: http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/5217696
My firestrike score: (finally broke 9k+!!!) http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5806809?

Yes, a dual PSU mod would help you go higher. Until you build one, use ThrottleStop profiles and toggle the CPU using hotkeys. 3DMark11 Tests 1 to 4 can be run at a low clock speed like 2.9GHz and then flip it to your max overclock for the Physics and Combined tests.

Wow! These unhinged physics scores are something to behold. I didn't realize I enjoy benchmarking as much as I do now that the 'fun police' are reining it in.
There's something special about knowing your machine is firing beautifully on high octane. -

Oh, it definitely will. I used to do that all the time before the dual PSU mod. Brother @johnksss is the one who came up with the idea, not me. Works fantastic.
-
I'm still curious if the dual PSU mod would work on an X51
-
There is no reason that it would work. If I am not mistaken, the X51 does not use the ID chip in the AC adapter, so it doesn't pay any attention to what is connected as far as PSU is concerned. If you look at the AC adapter female connector on the chassis, there is nothing that connects to the ID pin, just positive and negative cables.

I noticed that my 780m don't like the new clocks that the unlocked vBios gives. Sometime it freezes the computer with a static color screen (black screen, orange screen, etc.) depending on the last color it drew. Maybe its because of my faulty AC power brick. So unfortunately I had to under clock my 780m
.
Right now my daily is -15/+300 with the unlocked and already OC vBios. -
Just simply amazing.
I've mucked around with a few different drivers and the best I one for me so far is the 347.26.
A little CPU OC with Stock GPU clocks and close to full blast fans.
No where near yours but not too shabby for stock GPUs i thought!

I absolutely refuse to use their "clock blocked" garbage drivers. People need to stop downloading them or NVIDIA will get the impression too many people are OK with it.

This CPU likes 4.5-4.6GHz. Not sure I can eek 4.7GHz stable out of it, but I plan to try when I have more time and patience to devote to tinkering with it. I burned a lot of calories trying to get the 32GB of 2133 Vengeance to run at 2133 instead of dropping to 1866 and ended up giving up and putting the slower 16GB 2133 Ripjaws sticks back in. At least they will run at 2133 manually. -
Quite a difference between results with these two GPU tests...
If nothing else, an interesting comparison of 780M SLI and 980M SLI...

A somewhat similarly wide gap in the Metro Redux benchmarks. However, with regards to this result, and this is purely uninformed speculative questioning . . . Could this performance leap be down to the substantial improvements in DirectCompute for the Maxwell series?
Perhaps dual 970M users like @Cloudfire could also give this a run.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Yes, it is directly due to that. OCL and GPUGPU compute is much better with Maxwell than Kepler.

Yes, that seemed like logical speculation so I raised the question, as Maxwell carries a very substantial DirectCompute/GPGPU upgrade over Kepler.

@residualvoltage - - I cannot find the tread where you were posting about your memory tweaking with the Alienware 18. If someone can find a link, I will post this there.
I just wanted to say "thanks" and share that your tips allowed me to get the memory to run at the expected 2133 by tweaking the tCKmin value a couple of notches lower to change the speed to 1068.38MHz and now the BIOS set to "Auto" for memory boots at the expected 2133. I had both Vengeance and G.SKILL Ripjaws 2133 dropping to 1866 and nothing set manually in the BIOS would coax 2133 out of it, but this did the trick.
Here is a screen shot of the Alienware 18 running the Ripjaws at 2133 and my SPD dump for G.SKILL 4GB DDR3L-2133 for anyone that wants to use it. For those that have different memory, tweaking the same value to increase the speed to 1068 instead of 1067 should do the trick. @residualvoltage was using different memory than Ripjaws and I applied what he did to the G.SKILL with the same success.
