As long you don't use Evga Precision X. I'm not 100% sure if it's safe with Msi Afterburner. Use Nvidia Inspector if you want to OC graphics with Win Crap X

    See what @Papusan said.

All laptops with LVDS are vulnerable to this problem.

mr fox thanks for the reply . i am currently on windows 8.1 pro , i have currently no plans to install windows 10 in my laptop as you said the problem is there .

my 2nd question was can do i some thing about the fan speeds - i have noticed that raising the laptop like puting some thing which raises the laptop from the bottom causes a decent drop of temps - i will post some temp shots here before like assasin creed all maxed out was hiting 82 - 85c not its like 78c and 75c .

EVGA Precision X can corrupt the EDID on LVDS panels with any version of Windows.

Elevation is always good for laptops. It can, as you discovered, make a huge improvement. You can use HWiNFO64 to run Alienware fans full blast or using a custom profile.

ok played doom before increasing the fan speed - vulkan for some reasns uses only 1 gpu not 2 in sli , maybe after a patch they fix it -
temps were in the 80c /- max setings i only disabled anti aliasing about constant 45-60 fps some cases went to 65 but was in between 45-60 fps .which i think is damn good for an 880m , wonder what it will give on sli

DOOM (2016) does already have SLI support (soft support). However, users have also tweaked settings you can see here:

Thought I'd chime in with a Clevo 8970M I have running in my M18x R1...aside from the nasty sleep bug that I forgot about with AMD cards (anybody ever resolve this???), I got a pretty nice piece of silicon. 79% ASIC, running at stock 1.025V with clocks of 1000/1400, I broke 8000 3dmark11
    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/11671573

I will upload my vBIOS to anybody that wants/needs to run a Clevo 8970M in the M18x R1. Best of all, no nvidia throttle issues.

Today I tried to overclock more my 970m,

    here stock: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/12115784
    P10275
    GS:10253 PS:11005 CS: 9485

    here overclocked: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/12115664
    P12140
    GS:12635 PS:11208 CS: 10389

    has 72,5% asic, take 1278core/1500mem @ 1,036v

But when I broke +150 on core and +250 on memory the 3dmark11's test output with: "Time measuring inaccurate.."

I'm on win7x64, no XTU running or Samsung Rapid mode enabled, overclocked and overvolted via nvidia inspector 1.9.7.8, there are no software or services difference between two runs above, so what I'm missing to take a valid result?

    Thanks

How many times did you try it? Sometimes that error appears randomly as a glitch in the benchmark software. There have been times I saw it and ran a repeat benchmark immediately and the problem was gone. Unless it does it frequently I would not worry about it.

    Hey guys,

I've been looking all over for a way to get decent performance out of my dual 980M cards in my Alienware M18X R2 on Windows 10. So far my 3DMark scores have been complete crap. I've tried using the Clevo vBIOS and I've modded the mainboard BIOS using Swick for A11. So far I've tried using different drivers, different BIOS settings and I've tried tweaking the OC on my video card setting the main clock down by -40. However, the results so far have maxed out at a score of 9000 using Firestrike for high end PCs (third bench). Anyone have any ideas of how to get some of the posted scores I've seen in the 16000 range? Thanks.

What windows are you running ?

When I had my 980ms , I was using MSI Bios and Windows 10. I got a pretty good score.

I'm running Windows 10. I've managed to get my score up into the 13000 range now. Still trying to get it into the 16000 range though. Any suggestions?

Ah, ok, great thanks. Yeah, I'm actually running stock vBIOS on the cards for the most part and the default 330w PSU. I saw that the vBIOS on the video cards were not the same, so I extracted one and copied it to the other to get a major boost in performance. I'll checkout modding a PSU for more power. Has anyone tried modifying an internal PSU to be used as a stronger power supply? I've seen the tutorials on modding dual external 330w PSUs, just curious if anyone thought of modding the internal tower PSU as well.

What's the rationale behind it not working with the m18x r2? Is there something specific?

Has someone tried it yet? Maybe I should contact the PS manufacturer and ask if it will work with the m18x r2.

Just FYI, I've contacted Eurocom's technical support to ask if the Alienware M18X R2 will work with their 780W PS. It via email so hopefully I hear back from them eventually. I'll let you know what the verdict is.

It will work with the M18xR1 and R2 with a different power cable.

However it will not work with the 18 because it has an artificial 330w limit.

I'll let Eurocom answer your e-mail but I see no reason for it not to work with the M18x series as long as they provide the proper cable needed.

No ID chips needed in PSU for the M18xR1 and R2 ? Or is this more needed for latest AW 18.

I'm not sure. Eurocom will probably answer. I thought on the M18x series it didn't matter? Because when some people made the 2x330w converter box didn't that basically get rid of the ID chip detection?

I did the dual psu and the ID cable stil exists. If the laptop cannot detect it is a 330watt psu, then SLI/Crossfire is a no go. So when making the 2x330watt you cannot get rid of the ID cable.

This PSU also if it is not equiped with something that can trick the laptop its a Dell 330watt psu, it will not be able to function properly.

I was surprised by your magnificent results.
I do not know why my system does not work at such a high level, can you further specify your configurations?

    Those results aren’t quite fair, you’re comparing a 6700K to a 3920XM. Stock 980M SLI + decently clocked 3940XM should be upper 17000s / low 18000s

We should only be looking at GPU scores here which should be fair. Physics and overall score of course will be higher for 6700K.

But GPU scores should be quite close.

Drivers can make a difference yes but most of the time NBC publishes release driver scores. Over time performance increases and sometimes decreases.

I think if 980M is getting at least 22K+ in 3DM11 and 17K+ in FS they should be at least performing okay. (GPU scores of course)

I suggest @pickart uses something like MSI Afterburner and enable the OSD to monitor clocks during the runs to see if there's any throttling.

@Raidriar said to me 980M SLI throttles in the M18xR2 with the Dell vBIOS so it could be that?

I have the Alienware 18 (2013). I see my 980m SLI throttle both cards continuously, but very minor goes from 1100 to 990 MHz (power boost / power saving feature I guess). But I have no issues with them in general.
