That thing isn't comperable to an m18x when you look at the full package. That desktop cpu won't get you any higher fps in games than the 3940xm. The m18x has no equal when it comes to gaming or OC potential + you don't need to carry around two psu's either....

It is not that much cheaper, if you load it up with the same specs you load up an m18x with, then you end up with pretty much the same price give or take a bit.
What you will lack is the support and warranty Alienware offers and the superior build quality, and the fact its built for performance and OC-ing.
You are also comparing a 17", with an 18".
I'm getting so tired of people keep saying you pay for the brand name and flashing lights, and the rest is crap. It's simply not true.
Those are usually people who never owned an Alienware, or can't afford one. -
I agree. Besides, it's not even matter of affording one. I couldn't, but I saved for a long time in order to get one. It is clear and well-known that in the category of gaming laptops AW has no match. It's a given that outstanding products, along with generating awe, will evoke envy and unfounded criticism by those who lack specific knowledge or aren't able to contextualize. It's alright, we still have our beasts and enjoy them very much; they don't

Good luck with the sale bro. I really hope someone from NBR buys this incredible laptop and posts some benchmarks. It's one of the most powerful M18x's out there. -

Yeah, alot of "arguments" seem to stem from the so called "cost issue". Sure, Aw is more expensive but then again, so are Ferarri's and Porsche's etc. Cost should not be a factor if you really want the best. Those who do not want to spend (or cannot) afford the best often cast stones at those who can.

Unless you're forced to buy from the website, I see the "overpriced" argument as flawed. The AW laptops I've had are better values than the Sagers I owned before them. With substantial discounts from speaking with representatives, the M17x and M18x I bought were both within $200 of a comparable Sager, and had better features, especially the M18x. Why spend $2800 on an NP9370 when I could spend $3000 on an M18x with an aluminum chassis, better cooling, better warranty, etc. You can't negotiate with Clevo resellers for large discounts like you can with Dell.
-
Even buying from the website as long as you are willing to do your homework and wait out a good deal then buying online isn't terrible either....I got a substantial discount between the sale which gave me $350 and the $200 coupon code I had when I bought mine. I have not been able to build one for the same price since so i don't feel like I overpaid at all. -
It's all about satisfaction, IMO. If you can afford luxuries, why not have them? As long as you've done your research and know what you're getting into - making a knowledgeable decision on the purchase, and you're happy - you've hit the jackpot. One of the best things about Alienware is: You can haggle and negotiate for the best deal. I've never come across a computer company that operates like a car dealership, ha. The service is excellent as well. I've already had an awesome experience with Alienware representatives on this forum, and I will always appreciate their help.

Would be nice if gaming laptops started getting IPS displays. These TN panals are getting really boring. -
both are fine computers and i was happy with both that i owned and neather are overpriced you get what you pay for. in australia it was much cheeper for me to get a clevo(sager) than an alienware and dell is a barstard of company to deal with i currently have the m18xr2 and it is good(it does feel quite hot compared to my clevo(equivlent to m17x(so cooler because only 1 gpu)(since it was plastic the heat dident transfer to the plamrest as much)
in my personl experience i perefer the (m17x equilevent clevo) but perfer (the m18x to the clevo top of the line) -
-
-
yeah im a huge fan of the razor blade laptop but for the price i perfer a m18x because i dont need to move it much mabye in a couple year when they refine it a bit more i might get a razer blade

Today a new (nearly) maxed out M18x-R2 will be born and added to the NBR Alienware Awesomeness family, as I just saw mine is due for delivery, in 2 hours!!
(3-4 days from the US to Europe, including weekend, now that's what I call fast shipping Oo)
I'm so excited, I already put the specs in my sig, just caus I don't know what to do while stalking the front door looking if I see the USPS dude is coming through at the beginning of the street already. Like I used to do when the icecream man came through the street when I was a little kid... -
What will be the estimated customs duty?
Did you buy from EU shop or from US shop? -
I am still waiting on my R2 parts from Dell but have purchased another case,LCD etc and can nearly make a complete R1 out of parts
Black one this time. Parts are so cheap on ebay atm
Will upload pictures of R2 conversion + New R1 Build that i may just paint like Brother Fox unit. -
If you've got the money to treat yourself to a nice laptop why not. I'm joining the club with a nice purchase from the outlet store and I want to start gaming on my pc again rather than console as I used to about 4 years back
Got to say though its each to there own I love Macs too got a 27 inch iMac and MacBook Pro and although there not outright gaming machines they are great computers in there own right. I love the gestures on the trackpad and generally things just work. Add to the fact iCloud integration is great and its a great little set up
Have to admit though I'm so excited for my little beast to turn up. Ordering some ram and an ssd upgrade once I have confirmed its running fine -
Let us know when your baby turns up and how it works ;-)

I hope the next iteration puts up higher res screens. Samsung is putting 2560 by 1440 in series 9 thirteen inch laptops, no need for alienware to stick to 1080p

Welcome aboard, Garry - or to give you your new mantle, Brother Garry - now that you are a fully fledged member of the fraternity! - arise Brother Garry, go forth and enjoy much fun with one's new beast! LOL
-
We should start thinking of some sort initiation. You know, like a trial by fire. You get a new, shiny, and awesome M18x? Then you should unbox your beast, load it with games, and take it to an Apple store. Fire it up and start playing a game with cranked up volume. While at it call for a manager and ask if they need some fps for their notebooks since you got so many in games you don't know what to do with them
P. S. I still love my MacBook Air though

anyone got 32gb of corsair 1866 mhz ram in their machine? the one are currently being sold on newegg but in description of their item saying 1600 LOL, can't trust them especially newegg canada is just an online store, and can't return it as long as "it works" people had complains about description being wrong, few had them running at 1600 instead.

Forgot to mention i got the Orion m18 backpack too as i travel alot for work

The only way that really goes over well is...If you run their os in a vmware and it runs faster. haha

I think they already have with the Apple iMac 27", which sports the much talked about Nvidia GTX 680m x: Tested out over on NoteBookCheck here: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX - NotebookCheck.net Tech - nice 3dMark11 result too: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3770 Processor,Apple Inc. Mac-FC02E91DDD3FA6A4 score: P6883 3DMarks although not considerably more than a single 680m at stock - think a good stock run for a single 680m would be around 6200-ish (that was my stock 580m Sli anyways and a single 680m is about on par with that)
-
OK, another new guy here (well, new to the m18x owner's lounge - finally replacing the system in my sig)
M18X R2, 3940XM, 32GB 1600MHz RAM, Dual 680M SLI, 512GB SSD, space black, 3 year warranty w/ accident protection. Did I forget anything?
- would like to drop one or two data HDD's in there, been looking at 1TB 5400 7mm drives, anyone have any suggestions? -
No need to add any HDD's unless you need the extra space. SSD's are much lighter and more efficient, not to mention, significantly faster. The only thing I'd recommend is a decent cooling pad, along with an external keyboard & mouse.
-
JSheldon reporting for duty, as well.
Finally talked the sales reps into a deal I couldn't refuse so I pulled the trigger on the M18x.
Can't wait for it to arrive! -

Yeah, welcome to the club, Jsheldon!

M18X R2, 3940XM, 16GB 1866MHz RAM, Dual 680M SLI, 500Gb HDD BD COMBO KILLER 1103.
delivery in 25 days.
Waiting anxiously.
you guys think I made a good choice?
about overclock for 24/7 securely what I recommend? -
Nice build! No need to overclock that beast, I'm sure it'll chew on any game you throw at it.
-
I live in Brazil and here and very hot -
Every morning when i come home from work i sit down and just stare at the pure beauty of my m18x
Then i fire up crysis 3 and kill es. -
Hey all,
I finally pulled the trigger and am upgrading my m15x. I love my 15, but it is starting to show it's age a bit.
The new system:
CPU: i7 3840qm
HDD: 3x 500 GB 7200RPM + 64GB SSD
VID: 2x NVidia GTX 680M
NIC: Killer 1103
OPT: BD-RE
RAM: 32GB 1600MHz
Not the BEST OF THE BEST, but still one hell of a new system IMO. I can't wait for it to be delivered Tuesday.
Is there anything I need to be aware of before I get in to it? IE known issues, etc. -
crazyotterhound Notebook Consultant
Very nice system there, best of luck with it. Only thing I can think of is to download the latest Nvidia driver...the factory driver on my new M18X caused a blue screen when booting with SLI enabled.
-
Hi,
need your help. Wanted to install the new AW M18x-R2 Bios A10 - downloaded the file M18R2A10WIN.exe and wanted to start it. After executing the file and a short check I get an error message about "current plattform have secure boot feature, it must provide NV storage location by IHISI interface".
Well I didn't get this message when I updated to A03.
Any ideas, any help??
Many thanks. -
Download latest NVidia drivers, run a 3d Mark Vantage or 3d mark 11 to make sure everything is working as it should.
Then just go game and be in awe -

Cool background.
