@Codenamefa if you get a chance could we also see your throttle stop settings?

Whats funny is I don't really use throttlestop that much anymore. literally all I did was uncheck biprochet and set the multiplier. Nothing else fancy to it. Now that I do the biprochet in the bios I don't really need it that much only when benching.

LoL what can I say @Mr. Fox is to blame for those settings :p If it wasn't for him I would never have been able to find stable clocks years ago. And funny enough you beat me, guess the 3920xm uses a tad less power than the 3940xm which allows your gpu/cpu to go a little further than mine.

Ahhh HA! I knew you had to be involved somewhere in there @Mr. Fox lol. and @Codenamefa I though you where running the 3920XM as well. Notice on that benchmark I could only get to 4.3 stable and stock GFX, Anything more on the CPU and I Bluescreen. And unfortunately I can't OC the 980m SLI. It just throttles more and lowers the score. Looks like 25k is going to be the max on the GPU for the M18X R2. bummer. wait didn't you get 30k GFX on your R2 @Mr. Fox?

I no longer own anything made by Alienware, so don't wait too long. I liquidated everything two or three months ago. I only own the two Clevos in my signature now.

This was my best from a couple of years ago.

Yeah 4.3ghz and around +120ghz on the GPU core was all I could get without getting into throttle problems.

And that is the main reason I'm trying to get out of my Alienwares.... When I can put down 26k video scores and I know that if I was on Clevo I would be able to put down even higher and actually get pretty close to the highest score, tends to bring things into perspective that sadly the line has hit the end of its capability. Not a bad thing as it has had a good run.

Anyone care to share a lower voltage vbios for Dell 980M (M18x R2) please PM me. I haven't been able to get a hold of Prema, I've tried premamod.com, shouting out in public and PM'ing here. I hate to say it but I feel kinda **** on considering I donated to the guy, but whatever.

Until now you where on a list of people that I am trying to help.

I have something called a life and my inboxes are maxed out with requests...

If your (unasked for and freely given 10 buck donation, without having had any conversation prior to doing so), came bundled with an expectation to receive an internal beta mod or an entitlement to use it for the above type of talk then I shall better refund it right away...

    EDIT: Refund complete

Thanks. No time to send me a file but you have 3x the time to type up this BS response. Thanks but no thanks. Talk about passive aggression.

    Edit:

Complete BS of a story, list of people trying to help would include "hey, I got your message, I'm busy, I will get you the vbios, if / when I have the time".

There was zero response. You obviously have a personal problem with my online presence, maybe it's because I rail against wealth inequality or whatever, but yeah, total BS.

These internal UV beta mods are custom made according to individual ASIC, they have been made for not even a handful of user that I have been interacting with for years like @Ethrem. They are not just send and are not for sale.
Donations should not be followed by demands unless some sort of conversation has happened before hand.
I simply prefer putting people on a personal list and then surprise them once some free time allows to help them out rather than making empty promises by telling them to wait for something that may never happen.
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about regarding your online presence. I can't remember ever reading a single post of yours...have a good life!

You need to understand something. NBR and TI are enthusiast outlets for people, not a day job. People volunteer information on these boards out of their own free will. There is ZERO obligation owed to anybody.
@Mr. Fox , @Ethrem , @Prema , all these top guys have lives too you know. You should feel honored if you get any personal correspondence with them, because instead of helping out people on a publicly visible board, they are taking the time to talk to YOU and only YOU.

You are asking us (the people with these vBIOS files) to violate a respected dev's trust. You realize that, right? I was personally told by Prema, for MY USE ONLY, PLEASE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE. As a hobby dev myself, I understand that trust between developers is everything.

FWIW, I sent Prema a request MONTHS ago, almost a year ago for a UV vBIOS for my 980M. He got around to me only a couple months ago, and gave me an undervolted vBIOS. People don't forget ya know, they just have other things to do. The adage goes "patience is a virtue"

Final note: Demand nothing from a dev that works for free. It looks bad, it hurts dev interest in projects, etc. Just don't do it. If/when something gets released, just say thank you, support the dev, whether in spirit or with money.

It is people like yourself that make devs not want to take personal requests anymore. Did you ever stop and think that with all the new machines coming out that Prema has his hands full? No I doubt that. As for all of us that have the UV mods, we won't be distributing them so stop asking. On top of that, some of the mods are machine specific and trying to use them on a machine not meant for them could be disastrous. What happens if you get a vbios that is so undervolted that Windows crashes when it comes up because the 2D voltage is too low for your ASIC? DOS recovery flashes are out of the question since Maxwell so you would be up a creek.

Be careful asking people for a vbios that you didn't get from Prema. You never know if they decide to send you a corrupted vbios. Intentionally or unintentionally.

    1. Information is meant to be shared. That's the whole point of the internet in the first place, to liberate information.

    2. I donated to Prema, three weeks before realizing that 1.050v is too much for the 100W 680M heatsink to handle unless the fans run at an ear-deafening 4200 RPM. I did not pay him and then ask him for a vbios with less voltage, I DONATED TO HIM TO THANK HIM AND COMPENSATE HIM FOR HIS WORK AND ASKED FOR NOTHING MORE.

He could have PM'ed me a vbios with less voltage in less time than it would have taken for his BS response.

    Good advice. Thanks.

Internet does exist for people to share information and knowledge, but only if the want to!

I myself tried Premas custom vbios (all versions) for my m18x R2 and performance-wise he has made an exceptional job! 980m with the throttling fix is transformed. I also have to run the fans at full blast so my temps can be less than 77 when gaming.

Because of that I use Dell vBios (meh!!!) with less performance but with better temps due to lower voltage (.052 vs .062), so I am happy.

I tried to make my own vbios based on stock, but chicked out. I did some bios editing when I tried to make an FX3700m to work on my Acer 8930g.

If and when prema decided to share his knowledge/personal work via a new bios, we should all be happy when he does.

Yes, that is true, but sharing information and knowledge are not the same as distributing someone else's work without their permission. Asking others to share a file given to them in confidence when they have already made a promise not to is also inappropriate.

You only need the modified BIOS if you wish to use legacy mode/windows 7. Otherwise, you could set your system BIOS mode to pure UEFI only and install the 980M

Does anyone have or know if there exists a 980M M18xR2 vbios that behaves as Prema's but with less voltage than 1.062v?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello guys.. some funny things around here...

Back on topic... Tomorrow I get a couple of MSI 980M to replace my SLI 880M. Now here is the question.. considering I'm not going to overclock my video cards but I don't want my sistem to throttle either, what's the right vBIOS for my machine (Alienware 18)?

    • Do I need Dell's vBIOS for SLI GTX 980M?
    • Do I need Prema's vBIOS for Clevo?
    • Do I need Prema's vBIOS for AW 18?

    Thanks.

I am using the stock Dell vBIOS on my machine. I have zero throttling and am very happy with the performance. Also make sure your system bios is updated to A12. I have used the stock limited 150 OC and an additional 225 memory OC just for the heck of it and have had no issues as well though I do not leave them there. Just fooled around with it a few times in a couple games.

Finally I got the video cards, installed them and flashed them with Dell's vBIOS. So far so good, both fans work well with the lastest NVIDIA drivers. I haven't perceived any throttling issue, I'll do more testing though.

Would the Prema's vBIOS increase performace on the GTX 980M at stock clocks?

PS: A funny thing is the cards say the subvendor is Dell and not MSI :D

Clock to clock they won't. Only if they are being used to stop throttlling or if you are looking to OC will they improve the performance. If you are getting good performance with no throttling and don't plan to OC or benchmark but just want to game, don't rock the boat. Watch the temps and clocks and if all is good then all is good. Then you can decide if you want to push it further and take some risks.

No need to overclock at this moment. I can't believe how better is the 980M compared to the 880M. I was getting around 27-40 fps in Forza Horizon 3, now I get over 55 fps all the time. In GTA 5 I was getting ~40 fps most of the time, now I get almost constant 60 fps with better graphic options. Overall pretty happy with the upgrade :)

    Hey all.
    I have Alienware 17 (2014) with 980m 8GB clevo vendor. Can I flash Prema's AW18 980m vBios v2 on my laptop?
If yes, does anybody know how to get Prema's AW18 980m vBios v2?

@Prema Hey i have been following this Alienware 18 Forum For about a year now and about a month back I decied to trade my ryzen system (1700x and FuryX) for an Alienware 18 with 980M SLI. I have the unlocked bios and have been using it for some time now, this machine is a total beast and I love it. However I cant seem to find your vBios mod for the AW18 980M so I figured it was finally time to make an account and ask to see if I could get the file please and thank you.

Hello everyone. I take the message of "thedantee". I also have an alienware 18 with a SLI of 980, and I encountered problems of SLI compatibility because of Vbios. This forum helped me, but like thedantee, I can not find your prema mod V2 for alienware 18.

Can you please share it or send it to me by mail. :notworthy:

    thank you

However that limits itself to older Drivers.. Or at least I had that issue it would boot to hibernate mode every time on newer drivers.. where as Prema V2 Works on latest Drivers. @skindoe @Raja786 @reclemer Just send him a PM and he will get back to u with a download when he has time

I have it and raja might have it but we must obey premas rule and not share. It is for personal use idk about raja but I will be respecting his wishes. He is giving a free vbios and I will not go against his wishes for something as great as this. Its as simple as just sending him a PM and waiting for him to respond it may take a week or 2 but he will get to you when he gets the time

I don’t pal. I’m going with official vbios and going to tweak it using nvidia inspector.

Is this download link with mod from @Prema ? If yes or no, have you asked for permission to share this mod?

I have reported it and requested a moderator take care of it. Nobody has permission to distribute @Prema firmware. It is a violation of the terms of use agreed to when receiving it, and it is also unethical to betray the goodwill under which it is provided.

Interesting that the one and only post by this person is a betrayal of @Prema.

This is in the ReadMe.txt file included with the unauthorized vBIOS distribution. Notice the last item.

                                      HOW-TO

Preperation: - Make sure NVIDIA driver is installed and GPU is active
(You can use GPU-Z to activate it manually)

HOW-TO: - Double click 'ModMe.bat' in Windows and follow on-screen instructions
(Wait for the very brief 'update successful' message before rebooting the system)
                 - Repeat with 'ModMe2.bat' in order to flash the second GPU in SLI systems

Tip: - Use NVIDIA Inspector for overclocking/overvolting
