Thank you very much for your response TheMatrixHacker. Tight is good enough for me. It's certainly better than having laptop bouncing around in the bag. Unfortunately, I can't check it out at Fry's because we don't have any in AustraliaBy the way do you still use that rolling case or have you found something better?
Congratulations on your Orion Backpack, please tell us about your impression with it.

Are there any packs that are ideal to hold the M18x and a 14" laptop (HP EliteBook 8460w)? Would the Orion manage to handle this? When I travel for work I have to try to use my carry on luggage and one backpack. I need both laptops if I want to get my game on while traveling.
-
Yes, it would manage that quite well, as long as you did not have just a ton of other things. It is a very large backpack.

I picked up the Everki Titan for my new M18xR2. It's a little pricey, but you've got an Alienware laptop so... Anyway this thing is pretty nice with tons of space. Since the beginning of this week I've been carrying both my M18, 17" Macbook Pro, and Ipad in it (plus power adapters for each) with a lot of room leftover; and it actually feels comfortable carrying on my back. I'll post some pics soon. I highly recommend it.
-
Can you fit the m18x r2, xbox 360 slim and both power packs in this backpack?
-
Yes, I believe probably so. I haven't done that specifically, but I carry more gear than the amount of space that would required.
No need to start a new thread. I moved your post to the thread already established for M18x bags and backpacks. -

Just ordered an Oakley Arsenal bag off Ebay, hope it fits my m18x! Bought it because my daily driver, a Supreme backpack, would not fit (it's already a tight fight for my HP DV6). At the same time, my considerations were that I didn't want something hideous (read: targus/orion/pc-branded bags) and wanted a backpack with a little more street cred.
us$80 shipped internationally, not that bad a deal and if it doesn't fit the m18x, it's a backup for my Supreme.
Specs of the Arsenal :
2135 cu (not a good guide I know)
bag dimensions: 19" x 14" x 7"
laptop compartment: 17" x 13.5" x 2" (this is going to be a tight fit).
If the m18x doesn't fit into the laptop compartment, I hope it can fit into the main backpack opening.
*fingers crossed* wish me luck!
UPDATE:
I saw a review on eBags that said this laptop does not fit a Dell Precision M6600 with the following dimensions:
Width: 16.41"/416.7mm
Depth: 10.65"/270.5mm
Height: 1.3"-1.46"/33.1-37.4mm
M18x:
* Height (front) 2.09" to (rear) 2.13"
* Depth: 12.68"
* Width: 17.17"
DAMN. looks like I should have done more research before pulling the trigger; spec dimensions aren't a substitute for anecdotal user reviews! -
the Oakley Arsenal backpack arrived! Good news is, with the included Alienware microfiber sleeve, the M18x fits into the main compartment of the backpack (the laptop zip compartment is too small).
Barely fits, but it fits. The sharp edges of the M18x do make the laptop sit slightly askew in the bag, but the zippers don't scratch nor is the bag in danger of getting ripped (Orion backpack, anyone?) Not the greatest protection though as the m18x rests in the main compartment, sans laptop padding, so anyone looking to chuck your bag around or intend to bring your m18x on a long haul flight with the bag getting abused, you're better off sticking with the Everki Titan. But the back and straps of the bag are very well padded, so you can lug it around without fear.
But for my use which is to bring out the M18x every now and then to a friend's place for a LAN party, the bag works great. Quality all around, YKK zippers, and an understated, all black aesthetic which I like. Plus, US$80 shipped internationally, that can't be beat.
4/5 stars, easy. -
I've noticed that Dell does not sell the Everki Titan - but while searching for the best price on the Titan I noticed that Dell Australia DOES!

Whats the deal? Is this something I could order from Dell using a gift card even though I'm in the US? Or am I better off just getting it from Everki directly? -

Is the Orion m18 backpack a good one to get? I plan on getting it for my new AW m17 laptop. I see that in dell it runs for 69.99 USD (which is cheaper than the m17 version funny enough). Any good reviews about how well its made? Does it work well in different types of weather?
-
From what I have heard, the orion m18x backpack is phenomenal, and the 17x one is bad for some reason.
For some really good reviews of it look on the Amazon listing (it has a 4.5 star rating)

I can attest to the lack of quality of the Orion backpack for the M17x as I have been using for about a year with an M17x R2 and for a few months with an M18x R1.
The zippers are cheap, and if you attempt to stuff the compartments they will break as mine have. The stitching on the right shoulder strap is coming undone.
The compartment that sits behind the rubber "shield" area is too small to be of any use.
The netting on the sides that is meant to accommodate water bottle's etc is very flimsy and will tear with time.
The laptop compartment affords only partial protection, meaning that about 4 inches of even the narrower M17x R2 are exposed to the larger compartment. Both my M17x R2 and my M18x R1 that I have since returned had scratches on the lid in that area from retrieval and storage of gear from the larger compartment, mainly by a steel water container, even though I was somewhat careful.
I have to add that the total carry out weight is about 30 lbs as I usually bring a half gallon of water in a steel container, sometimes an external HD, and a few other items, and the M18x PSU is a bit heavier than the M17x R2's so these failures may be because it wasn't designed to support the additional weight.
I am now looking for a replacement, and although a few owners give the Orion M18x good reviews I don't see any from people who are highly mobile as I am and use the bag every day nor any reviews from owners who use them in this manner longer term.
Most reviews are from owners who use them only occasionally, like once or twice a month, and possibly only to transport their gear from house to car and car to lan-party etc.
I am considering the Everki gear as they seem more robust and have a warranty. -
I think the Everki Titan is a bit expensive, right now I am debating the Targus XL or the Targus City Gear, both that have been confirmed to fit the M18x.
Anyone care to comment on the quality and fit of these two?

From your description, they sound remarkably different. There is no area with netting on the sides. There must be more difference between them than size. The storage compartment behind the shield area is large, assuming you are not referring to the little pockets, because I don't use them for anything. (Empty, they neither occupy nor waste any space.) They are too small to use, but I don't really have any need to use them because I carry bulky items and I pack my smaller items into plastic boxes and containers to keep them organized. -
Hey guys, soon to be owner here. After having an m18x for a weekend, I completely fell in love with it. While I was using it, I also had the m18x alienware orion backpack. This backpack is HUGE and I felt like I was wearing a turtle shell.
Do you guys have any recommendations on smaller backpacks that will still fit the m18x, but not make me look like Master Roshi? -
Mr. Fox said: ↑It's odd that there is such a difference in quality between the M17x backpack and the M18x backpack. My Orion M18x backpack is excellent. It's very well made. I've had it over a year now and could not be happier. It is used heavily for travel and looks almost new. All the stitching and straps are in good shape and other than a very minor degree of dirtiness from being well used, it is no worse for wear. It's huge and holds tons of stuff, and the TSA friendly feature is wonderful. I travel by air frequently (within the US only) and never have to remove it. So, you can count me as a long-term heavy user. I carry more than 30 pounds of gear and the backpack is stuffed to capacity... so full, in fact, that it will not fit into the overhead bin in the smaller (CRJ and Bombardier) planes. If you look back in this thread and you will see a post with photos showing how much I pack into it.

Again, to be fair I have to add that the tearing of the stitching on the straps didn't really begin go show until after I loaded it with the M18x and PSU, with the only real weight increase coming from the larger PSU. That and I usually have it packed to the gills with water, a book, a sandwich etc, the total carry out weight feels ~25 lbs, unconfirmed with a scale.
With that said, there are already a few negative comments on amazon.com in regard to the Orion M18 Backpack's zipper and stitching, so it may only be a matter of time.
To keep in mind, everything succumbs to wear and tear, and even extremely well made bags fall apart with daily use, especially if overloaded beyond their intended carrying capacity.
I wish the Everki Beacon fit the M18x, as the aesthetics of the Titan just didn't do it for me, that and the $180 price tag.
Oh and to update my earlier post, one of the features of the Everki bags that I truly liked, the supplied weather cover, is available for most any backpack, I am going down to a local REI and test fitting one of these when I get my Outdoor Products Power Pack Daypack in later this week.
I HAVE been caught in the rain, a good 3 minutes away from my car, a few times with my old Orion bag, and I used my fabric coat as an improvised rain cover.

Figured I would chime in here. I was issued a CODI 9030 wheeled laptop bag along with a Dell precision M6600 for a job I am contracted on. I had been using this wheeled bag to travel with the M6600, which is a 17". This morning when I was packing for my flight, I decided to try to put my m18x in it, and to my surprise it fit with plenty of room. It will not slide into the removable sleeve provided with the bag, but it will fit inside the bag, and could have some sort of sleeve on it, and would still fit.
As for the bag, I looked it up, and its pretty expensive, but has a lifetime warranty on it. It has held up through 5 or so trips through, carrying my Sager, the dell, the 2 power bricks, 2 mice, a headset, a book, some other misc stuff for work, etc... It's not the most efficient on space as it doesn't expand much. But it seems to be holding up well. The telescoping handle seems to hold up well. its a little looser now than it was when I was issued it, but overall it is a pretty nice bag.
I do have to say though, I am not sure the part number I listed is correct, my bag does not have the mesh pocket of the side. So definitely check the dimensions, I can't find a model number on mine though, and I no longer have the tag.

I just got my Everki Titan......THIS BAG IS AMAZING. The videos and bag models do not do this bag any justice, it is a fabulous looking bag and does not make me look like a Ninja Turtle! (5' 10"). 9 out of 10. Cannot give a 10 out of 10 as I am unsure as to the durability, but life time guarantee! LOVE IT. I wish I got this bag about 5 months ago when I first picked up an M18x R1, I was too cheap and it fit in the Orion M17x bag but I usually ended up having to carry my lunch and a book separately, and then the zippers busted as I was trying to overload it often.

Gotta say I love my Everki bag and I'm glad I chose it, the only problem is the piping came off rather quickly not giving me quite a snug fit. They offered to have me ship it back and I'm guessing now is the right time. Supposedly the reinforced the tubing. No matter how much I tried to get the tubing on the straps back on they would not go. I was actually thining about trying to get a third party solution such as from here https://www.strapworks.com/default.asp
Has anyone else had problem with that piping on Everki? Mine happened right away and they offered me to RMA it but I just couldn't afford to do it. I like having a safe place for my m18x to go since it's not being used often. -

Hey guys I purchased a m18x orion laptop bag to go along with my beast. After a month or so the stitching around the arm pads has come away and it looks a mess!
I contacted dell regarding the issue and they said they could not replace it and I had to contact the manufacturer regarding a replacement even though I ordered it through dell.
Is this right? The manufacturer is based in the US and I'm In the UK.
All help appreciated

No, call them back and demand them to replace it.
I live in sweden and i called technical support and told them about my exact same problem with my M18X scanfast backpack. They sent me a brand new one.
They did however think this was weird. But i just described this problem and said many others have had this problem. The new bag they sent me seems to be a newer version, its a little bit different in quality. Better ofcourse. -
Just so you don't feel alone, the shoulder strap on my Everki Titan has done the same thing in 3 places in less than a month of use (3 month old bag). Everki have been great and are replacing...just hope the new one when it arrives has stronger shoulder straps. All it carries though is a laptop and cables....Poor quality stitching I guess.

I took a shot at a Slappa Stovepipe, the 18" black/red one. The laptop CAN fit in the bag, but the dedicated laptop sleeve part has a flap with velcro and a 'squared' flap. The m18r2 slides into this laptop sleeve, but you cannot velcro the lid shut, additionally, the hook part of the velcro would then touch the side of the laptop. The bag itself CAN close, which is a combination drawsting and top flap cover, sort of like a drysack, but isn;t.
I am emailing/calling slappa tomorrow, i'm glad i didnt remove any tags from it before testing the fit.
I would say the stove pipe is a 'can work' bag, but not an ideal fit for an m18x. I should have gone the hardbody.
anybody got experience of the fitment in a kiken 18? -
There was a few complications on the delivery so i had to wait maybe a month or more. they said i could keep the broken backpack because of the problems.

Just picked up an Everki Titan recently, which for a change was cheaper here in NZ than the listed price in the States. Currently using it with my 15" laptop and it just gets swallowed. Hit a few trails (mtb) just for fun with it on (and loaded with laptop, water bottle, camera), super comfy for extended use. Also the orange interior is pretty sweet.
