    Hi,

The bag is absolutely massive, would have more than enough room for books - you probably wouldnt even notice 2 in there to be honest.

It does have shoulder straps (to wear as a back pack), very comfy and very well built.

    Regards,

    Dave.

The DuraGadget sleeve is a great bargain. I like mine, too. Nothing fancy, but does a perfect job of adding that little extra bit of protection inside of a bag. Also reduces the chance of having rub marks, abrasions, scratches, etc. from taking it in and out of a backpack or other bag.

I had a dickens of a time getting the correct one here in the US and I have 3 extra DuraGadget sleeves that are the wrong size (too small), LOL. I would recommend buying it only from DuraGadget's eBay UK store, as the reseller on Amazon was incompetent. The shipping to the US was inexpensive, but it took 6-8 weeks to arrive through "Royal Mail" or whatever they call it over there... very slow delivery, possibly due to going through US Customs. (About what one would expect with the government involved... with two government entities, it's probably a miracle it didn't take longer.)

Isnt it alot of weight to carry on ur shoulder ? That is what always botherd me with messenger bags.. I mean m18x + charger + extra casual item = around 7-9 k'g...

The Everki Lunar is a totally beautiful bag. It would be very good for carrying the M18x and gear from the car into the office, back to the house, etc... short time and distance. I would not mind having one for that purpose.

It would be very bad (for me) to have to carry it by the handle, or on my shoulder, during long periods of business travel. It would make my shoulder, arm and back hurt very bad. I stopped carrying a briefcase several years ago because of that. With a backpack, the ergonomics and weight distribution are much better, and your hands are left complete free to do something other than holding onto the bag.

The DuraGadget does look pretty neat.

Can I have some feedback about it (in relevance to the M18x) and some photos please? I'd appreaciate it. For 10 bucks it really does look like a bargain.

Bagwise I'm undecided. But if I can fork out $30 for some Kustom thongs I can fork out $80 for a nice laptop bag.

P.S. I find it funny how people say Alienware are just for rich people, I'm by no means rich at all, infact I only have 1.5k atm and I'm saving up for the laptop while studying (12 weeks till I can afford to have it built! Agh 3 and a half months, I cant wait!!), but it's not a rich persons computer it's a gaming enthusiasts computer, anyone can afford one really, just look at the difference with the specs, they're for different levels of gamers, all hardcore but varying needs, and I find it fantastic how everyone helps each other here, and price vs quality, those DuraGadget sleeves are spectacular. This laptop is gonna be my baby so I want the best protection avaliable. Things like the U3 which are inexpensive but extend the life of the laptop, really are quite amazing, and I would have never even thought of it if it wasnt for these forums.

    Hi everyone!

I've been lurking around for a while now, and first let me say kudos to everyone involved in this great community :)

I have recently purchased an M18x that is yet to arrive. My original plan was to get an M17x before they pulled the 3D option, but anyway that is why I already bought a Case Logic 17.3 Laptop Backpack. I was wondering if it would also fit my 18x by any chance.

Sorry if it was already discussed before, forum search turned up nothing.

    Thanks in advance :)

Edit: I know the specs on the page don't seem big enough, but I was wondering if anyone has a personal experience of a tight fit etc.

No experience with this particular bag, but I'd say very unlikely since I've noticed most bags just weren't made for 18"+ laptops. Some bags like the Targus would fit, but usually not. In general, I've noticed the recommended specs for most bags to be accurate.

Caselogic usually doesn't make them extra big I don't think. If someone tries, I'll update the list...

I had to Google that because I have never even heard of it before. ASTRO Scout Backpack

After looking at the specs, it might be large enough for the M18x. They don't tell the dimensions of the laptop compartment. If the measurements provided are external dimensions, it's going to be a very tight fit, if at all.

The opening post of this thread has a list of bags and backpacks that are known to fit or not fit.

I have one that I use for my current 17.3” laptop and my PS3 is why I was wondering. Guess I will find out when it get here and I will post here to let everyone know. I’m also going to order a Alienware Orion M18x Backpack just in case it doesn’t fit, don’t want to be without a case. Got to protect that investment!

I've been following the price of the Everki Titan on Amazon since it's been posted and have never seen it under $100. I don't even see it listed it currently as in stock from any vendor (it was always from 3rd party sellers)...

Just curious when it was under $100.

I have seen it at Dell Australia for < $100, but that's a while back when it was just released. It's not even on the Dell US site.

Yeah, the Astro would be a nice alternative if you wanted to travel lighter since it looks thinner than a lot of the other backpacks out there. Let us know when you get your machine and I will update the front page.

    Edit:
From this forum talking about the Asus G73, it sounds like a tight fit already for the Astro Scout for that machine which (I think) is smaller than the M18x since it's listed as:

    Asus G73: 16.3” (W) x 12.6” (D) x 1.8” (H)
    M18x: 17.17" (W) x 12.68" (D), Height (front) 2.09" to (rear) 2.13"

    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1523627

The good thing is that their depths are similar so if there is enough height in the backpack, maybe it'll be ok...

Amazon and NewEgg reviews are helpful, but should not be considered as gospel. Some of the people posting reviews are trolls and some are idiots. You will find the best reviews on bags and backpacks here in this thread.

The Orion messenger bag has issues with the stitching coming loose. Almost every Orion M18x backpack owner is extremely pleased with it. Some that have not owned one dislike the appearance and others feel that it screams "steal me" because of what it is obviously holding inside. If you are often in a very high crime area, (NYC, LA, etc.,) that might be something to think about.

    • Orion Backpack - yes (awesomeness - liked by most owners)
    • Orion Messenger - no (multiple documented stitching failures)
Backpacks are generally better for long-term transportation, such as an all-day trek through airports. Bags and briefcases are well-suited for short jaunts and a lot nicer in some ways, but they are ergonomically detrimental and can be very tiring during a long day of travel.

Training is not a good substitute for bad ergonomics. Even if you're in great physical condition, the backpack is better for times of extended use. You'll feel less fatigue and you can haul a lot more weight centered and evenly distributed on your spine, not to mention that having both hands free at all times can be beneficial. I don't recall seeing many mountain climbers or hikers carrying bags or briefcases, and there is good reason for that. :D Capacity is one of the reasons in addition to ergonomics.

Some folks just prefer a bag over a backpack and there's nothing wrong with that. There could be some business settings where a bag or briefcase is better suited as well. It looks odd for a person dressed in a suit to carry a backpack. It also tends to wrinkle the garb. I frequently see men dressed in suits carrying backpacks by the handle, so in that case you may as well carry a bag or briefcase.

Yeah, it fits in the Targus XL fairly well, assuming you put the m17x in the laptop pouch, and then leave the m18x in the other part of the laptop compartment. The m18x fits in the laptop pouch, but a bit too snugly for some.

Yes, unfortunately I cannot carry a backpack. I run a IT company and try for the most part to keep things professional. Thus my choice in the Black m18x. However the array of led lights that I refuse to turn off probably doesn't help my Cause. (Fantastic Ice breaker though!) Most people don't want some kid wearing a backpack messing around with their servers. Down here in Texas most of the Tier 1 and 2 techs still carry backpacks.

I have a roller case, but carry it by the handles with my lappy and other 30lbs of stuff I hardly use (but life saving when needed) I think caring around the weight is good exercise and makes up for the hours sitting in front of the computer (gaming or working) I switch arms through out the day, or on staircases. So I agree with Hydrogue :)

No one has verified if the Astro Scout will fit the M18x R2? I have an Astro Scout here (was going to use it for my Clevo P170EM) - so here's hoping. I can still use it for my 360/MixAmp/etc., I guess...but didn't plan on that. :) I guess I will be the first one to update on this if it works...but I won't know for a week or two.

So I just ordered my m18x r2 yesterday :). Now I'm having a tough time deciding between these two bags to carry it in.

I only have a short commute to work which involves me jumping in my car and driving straight to work, and walking 10m from my car into work. So I'm not too concerned about the better ergonomics of a backpack in this case.

I do travel overseas a couple times a year though and plan to take my m18x with me. So I will have to lug it through the airport etc.

I love all the compartments that the titan has but tbh, i would never use all that functionality. It would be primarily only for transporting my m18x in, which the lunar would be perfectly adequate.

So for people that have used both to carry their m18x in, or used both a backpack and messenger bag to carry their m18x in, which do you prefer and why?

    Advantage of "Lunar"
If you wear a suit, the backpack will leave traces on your back. In this case - messenger bag is better.

    Advantage of "Titan"
M18x is a big and heavy laptop and you will feel discomfort in case of long travel with it.

Although you have not mentioned the Everki Advance Laptop bag, I would recommend it.

It fits my M18xR1 just fine, along with the adaptor + power cable.
It has a few compartments, but nothing too fancy. Since you are more interested in just transporting the laptop, this should be ideal for you.

The Everki Advance Laptop bag is a messenger bag, personally I prefer messenger bags simply because they look more professional. Plus I am quite tall so personally its not too hard for me to carry.

Also the Everki Advance is much cheaper than the others you have mentioned.

I looked at the Advance Laptop bag as well, but the handle straps didn't seem to have pads and there didn't seem to be a shoulder strap.

    I'm also quite short, only 171cm. 6ft 7"

Ah I see, that is true the handles do not have any padding at all.
But a shoulder strap IS included and is quite long too (fits all around your shoulder).

The M18x R2 fits in the Astro Scout backpack, but its really tight. But it does fit! lol. I will start using it for my PS3 again and use my new Orion M18x backpack for my M18x. Will post a pic later if you guys want one of it in the Astro backpack.

    Oh crap. :(

So it's not worth it to use the Astro Scout for the M18X R2? I guess I will look into getting that Alienware backpack, then.

Thank you so much for testing! +rep

Hey guys! I ordered M18x R2 today, can't wait to receive it :)

I need to buy 2 different bags. Could you help me, please?

Bag 1 - For professional use. Shoulder bag (with handle to carry by hand) or light weight rolling case. Looking for a bag that I could use with a suite. I liked Targus 17” XL Rolling Laptop Case | TXL717 but it's a bit heavy (8 lbs). Also While TheMatrixHacker says M18x fits into the bag, Mr. Fox says it doesn't. I also doesn't fit according to Targus website (width 16.5" for the bag, while M18x is 17.17")

Bag 2 - For casual carrying around. Backpack for long time carrying with a handler to carry for short distance. Preferably with some protection features. Looking for a backpack I would be able to run from criminals trying to rob me for my shiny <s>metal a**</s> $3K notebook :) Also don't want the bag to look like I'm going camping. I was looking at Orion Backpack, but maybe you guys know something better?

IT fits, but there isn't much room for anything else. Check it out at your local Frys. Mr Fox can speak for his oppinion, but I believe he thought it was to tight, and wasnt enough room for his other toys.

WOOT WOOT! My Alienware M18x Orion back pack just arrived :)
