Well I just tried out my m17 orion backpack and it seems to work just fine. A little snug but I dont see any potential issues with it at all. Nothing rubs and it clears the zippers so I'm going to save the money and just stick with the m17x orion.

I've tried two different M17 backpacks and only one of them was a nice fit. The newer backpack had extra padding around the laptop pocket which made it just a little too tight to fit comfortably.

I had to unstitch one side of the pocket and remove the extra padding to get the M18x to fit equally as well as the first backpack I tested.

First day toting the M18x around campus in the Orion M18x backpack.

    Wow.

The laptop fits great in the sleeve, there is an ok amount of room for other stuff, including the power brick, but MAN what a boat anchor. Walking around with it for more than a few minutes turns into exercise. It's too bad the pack itself weighs quite a bit, since with the notebook, power brick, and a mouse or accessories, it's extremely heavy. If you add in any books, especially textbooks, you are in for a backpacking experience.

I've also noticed that the shoulder straps seem to be spaced kind of wider than the average person's shoulders, so the padded parts tend to contact the front of the shoulder bones rather than the usual spot between the shoulder and collarbone that most straps fit into. This may be a good thing if you are a 6'-7' tall person or a bodybuilder or otherwise larger than average, and is also good for stability since the pack doesn't swing side to side very easily, but my concern is that so much weight on the shoulder could have a physical effect on the joints or muscles over time. Yikes.

I also noticed while messing with the shoulder straps that the bottom of the straps are pretty weakly attached to the bag, the same as any other backpack. It's great the top of the straps has the big "U" shape and looks like it'll handle the weight and stay on there, but the bottom of the straps look to be the weak point of this thing.

I don't think the trolley kind with wheels are the way to go for delicate electrical components like those contained in laptops, as the vibration from being rolled around and the shocks when hitting a crack or bump will eventually take it's toll.

It would definitely be an easier way of handling the weight of the M18x, though, but I think when it's necessary to roll a laptop around, it's just too much and time to get a smaller, lighter one for portable use.

Niiice, any trouble with the fit at all or is it perfect? I couldn't imagine that it would be a good idea to use the M18x in that sleeve all the time since the vents will most likely be suffocated. Have you checked the temps while using it with it inside the sleeve?

Doesn't that block the fans? Dunno if I'd have it running in that sleeve.

it's perfect fit, really nice to hold around, and provides extra padding in the bag :)

well i havent use it in it, i will try it now for 10 minutes with sleeves and without sleeves.

    Without sleeves my temps are around 46 - 48 C GPU 1, 48 - 49 C for GPU 2

    Well, now temps for GPU 1 are on 44 - 45 C, GPU 2 50 - 52 - 56 C.

but i wont use the sleeve while gaming or running anything heavy, i will probably use the sleeve on Integrated Graphic and on battery saving, which will be in lectures, or trains.. this beast will attract too much attention without the sleeves on in those places :D

I, VERY stupidly, bought the Everki Gaming one. *FACEPALM* and the zipps ran withing millimetres of the corners of the m18x! Actually took a little chunk out!

    So, it fits well?
How much space between the zip and corners/edges?
    Hows the waist strap?
I walk around campus all day with my m18x on my back so the waist strap needs to be good.

Sorry about all the question but I don't want to waste more money.

    Targus-Voyager:

There's two sets of straps, a smaller chest one and the standard 1.5" waist one. The chest one doesn't seem to get too much load so it will be fine. Hard to describe but they are the standard targus waist/chest straps if you have or seen a targus bag.

The notebook sticks out about an inch or so from the top of the sleeve. There's about an inch or so between the zippers and the laptop. I'm going to say that this is going to vary as they are only supposed to fit a 17.3" so depending on the seams you may get more or less, but should always get at least 1/2 an inch or so between the bag and laptop. I always end up wrapping the laptop screen (smudgy screen fix for keyboard) in the bag that it was shipped in so the corners even if they do touch won't get worn.

The stitching and materials are outstanding on the Orion Backpack.....please provide a source on where otherwise has been indicated. Mobile edge uses military grade nylon and stitches everything heavily. I can swing my back onto my shoulder with 30 pounds in it and not one strand pops. It is an immensely sturdy and well made bag.....I have 3 mobile edge backpacks and they are all incredibly strong. I would not recommend any other brand, period.

I second that, scook - the Orion M18x backpack is incredibly well made. For the M18x, I also cannot recommend anything better.

I think it is the Orion Messenger bag (not back pack) that NYC Drifter had some quality issues with, such as stitching coming loose.

The Orion M18x backpack is pretty good, no problem with materials, but the lower part of the straps that attach to the bag are pretty wimpy compared to the rest of it. Might not be a problem for light use, but my guess is that will be the first thing to go, either long term or if it ever sees a heavy load that it can't handle. Lifetime warranty should handle whatever happens in any case.

Took the orion m18x backpack with me on nightstop yesterday, everything fits comfortably, security gave no hassle over its checkpoint friendliness and it also fitted comfortably in the cockpit next to my seat. No complaints about this backpack! Built quality appears to be very good.

For what it's worth, my m18x never had to leave my Orion m18x backpack going through an airport checkpoint. The agent even commented that she loved these bags, that they fit so much. It was enough to have the front part unzipped.

They really do fit a lot, I had my charger and all accessories, mousepad etc in the backpack in another compartment.

You couldn't be more accurate. I love this backpack and so do TSA agents.

I have a ton of stuff in mine also. I use the plastic boxes designed for school supplies told hold cables and tough to organize loose items and they stack up nice and neat on their narrow edge inside the backpack's large middle storage compartment. The AC adapter sits on top of them, so everything fits in a very organized way.

The Titan doesn't look as cool as the Beacon, but it's awesome that Everki made a new backpack that should fit the M18x. The big selling point for me is the felt lining. :)

Curious once someone gets the Titan and can post a few pics with the M18x in it...Added it to the list for "should fit". I like how you can stack something very thick in the 2nd pocket. On my short list...

Can anyone confirm the weight of the slappa hardbody pro. It says 7lbs. I am considering it, however, 12lb computer 3 lb power brick, 7lb case...
22lbs with no mouse, documents, or notebook in my bag.

Mr. Fox, they may seem overpriced, but they have the best customer service for bags!

i have two Everki Lunar, the first one the handle torn of in 3 weeks, and i send them the pictures of my bag and the serial number, and they send in a replacement immediately, no question asked.

No, those are not the same thing. The one that ivander_atmojo purchased is for an 18.4" laptop and fits the M18x. They look alike, but the first link is not large enough for an M18x. As noted on the web page, it's for a 17".

Can someone suggested a sleeve for the Alienware M18x, i found a post in this forum with photos of a sleeve which fitted in the photos and laptop could also be opened with the sleeve still on but cannot find now.

Also i think i will order the Alienware backpack, but if there is anyone who has any better choices which i can order from a UK site.

    Thank you
