First day on campus using my Orion 18 backpack. So far so good. The straps feel wide, and luckily I have broad shoulders or else I feel like that I would not be able wear it properly. I have the m18x in the laptop compartment, the power brick at the bottom of the front pocket, the power cable in a sleeve in the front pocket, 1 spiral bound 120 page notebook in the files pocket, a text book with it, pencils pens, and a usb drive all perfectly organized and not ridiculously heavy.
The padding is nice and the pack feels sturdy. Best if the straps are tight for your back. The only thing is the undersides of the straps are a little rough, but it allows the pack to not move when its on your back. Will probably get softer over time.
Totally worth 90 bucks to have it overnight-ed for my classes this week. Got it from amazon with shipping for ~$90.00. So far I am very happy.

Just rec'd my Orion Backpack. I'm very impressed by the quality and the amount of storage the bag offers.
I highly recommend this bag to anyone looking for one that is tough and with plenty of room.
I picked mine up for about $80.00 from Overstock.com. -
Perhaps that the Orion bag has a great quality with a big amount of storage but the look is awfull, we are not all teenager !

Look at other offerings from MobileEdge then. Same company and quality still
-
Thank you, I have looked at MobileEdge website and there's only one men backpack and it's the Orion. But there's no problem I'm sure I will find what I want but it' surely will not be the Orion.
-
I for one am not a teenager and could careless what people perceive me as.
As I stated in my previous post, the bag is well built and protects my laptop very well. That should be the two most important facts about a bag you plan on carrying your laptop in. Looks should be the last thing.
Alas, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Decided to pull the triger on the Orion Backpack for my lappy. Purchased from amazon (MobileEdge) for 86$ + delivery to UA = 120$. Same as it's sold officially) should arrive here in 3 weeks...

@djfergi
It's obvious, quality, storage and practicality are essential points. If he had no alternative existed to Orion so I would have taken, but fortunately there are backpack with all of this with the added bonus a more sober look.
Is it possible that you give us a picture of the Orion (full) on your back? -
I've attached 2 photos. One with the flash and one without. They were taken with my android so it was a little difficult to capture the bag correctly. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what it looks like.
This the best i can do. I didn't have anyone around to take the picture for me.Attached Files:

First, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for this post. It helped me a lot in my decision.
I ordered the Everki Titan (Titan Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Backpack, fits up to 18.4") from Amazon on Wednesday and it arrived today. The M18x fits nicely, with plenty of room left in the bag for all the accessories and more, much more. The price tag was up there, without shipping $170, but it was completely worth it. If anyone is interested I can post some pics in a day or two.
Thanks again all.

It would be great to get some pics of the Titan! thanks

Here are the pics of the Titan with the M18x.

Wow that must be a huge bag, the M18x fits in it with a ton of space left.
Thanks for the pics! +rep -
And that's not your teenager backpack... no sir. Maybe Anentropik will like this as an alternative to the Orion.
I'll be watching for an opportunity to score one of these beasts because it looks larger than the Orion, but I'll wait until I can snag one for under $100. I'm an old dude, so looking like a teenager for me is by no means a bad thing. It's nice not having to hassle with photo ID. (Just wish I could feel like one again.) I love the Orion, but a larger backpack of equal build quality would be nice to carry more stuff. The only thing I wish were different is the red interior... would prefer black or charcoal.

Nice purchase. -
Thanks for finding this! If it hasn't been mentioned yet, it's also available on the Australian Dell site for $119AUD. I'm confident it will also show up therefore on the NZ site too at some stage.
Perhaps since Dell Australasia cannot stock the 18" Orion for us, they're cutting us some slack on the Everki pricing? -
Lastly, could you remove that pocket organizer? -

you can just contact them and send a few pictures of what happened to your bag and they will send you a replacement, lifetime warranty -
@djfergi
Thank you for your pics
I wanted a picture from your back, but really thank you for the effort.
@pvecchione
Thank you for your pics !
@Mr_Fox
I think this one is a good alternative -
Not sure if there are many in here who use the Targus XL 17", but for the price 48-54USD its a great bag and very strong built for the price. Lots of room too. But am sure there are more roomier bags out there.

FYI - Dell will not be selling the Everki Titan in NZ. At my reps suggestion however, I've ordered mine from EBay Australia for $155 AUD incl freight.
-
Anyone know which sites/companies ship to APO addresses? Having a hard time finding a bag :\
-
As far as the pocket organizer, it can't be removed, that was one of my first thoughts too. Though it is nice to have two separate compartments there, would have been nice to have the option for one big one.
No complaints on this bag though. Been using it all week, lugging around that behemoth of a laptop in it (plus books, camera, change of clothes, and the charger), and I've never had a more comfortable backpack. -
Thanks for the info again! -
I'm going to be looking into buying a hard case soon for the m18x.
I have THIS case, although for 17" laptops it used to fit perfect for my HP HDX18 with a 18.4" perfectly.
Bring on the m18x and no chance in hell that will go on, it's a completely different animal
So anyone bought a decent carry case for themselves that they recommend, or know of a case that's decent?
Cheers. -
You travel by flight a lot? That case looks heavy on its own.
-
I have the TUMI vapor and love it! You can occasionally catch them on sale when they switch seasons.
International Carry-On - Tumi
The vapor isn't exactly in the same league as a "brief case" style... it has 4 wheels and room for extras(power supply etc) but it takes the weight off your shoulder and still qualifies as a "carry on"
I may wish I had waited for this (spectra blue and red are much better colors than TUMI and macy's typically has crazy discounts) :

I've got an aluminum suitcase. It's almost armored. M18x fits perfectly, but the thing is there's no space left for PSU, so PSU always travels in the backpack. The case is excellent for long journeys. Drop it, hit a chair on a train while walking through with it etc. = no problem. It's key locked. Too bad no other colors are available. I'd like a dark grey one.

My Everki Titan arrived this morning and it is awesome. Superb build quality, a ton of room, and a snug, secure pocket for the M18X. It's an excellent backpack.
Thanks to pvecchione for bringing it to our attention.

In the end I bought THIS 'Mezzi' case. I saw a youtube video review of it as well, definetly will do nicely for me. It was on eBay not long ago grabbed it for around $40, but shipping to the UK was costly so it kind of worked out the same as having bought it in the US at full retail and having it shipped locally. -
I've got the Slappa hardbody case for 17" and it fits the m18x perfectly. Room for psu, mouse, etc.
-
Has anyone heard anything about the Slappa duffle bags?
Here is a link to one. -

I was wondering , is m18x backpack water proof? I never tested it , can anyone tell? Any reply would be greatly appreciated.
-
I have one and it doesn't look like it is water proof or water resistant. I doubt water entry would be an issue for anyone scurrying from their vehicle to a building quickly. The way it is made, I would not recommend going out for a walk in the rain with it.

I got this one its really stylish and fits the 18x real nice and charger or any accesories. Although there could be more padding but I dont really mind, just have to be careful with it.

Not sure if just me ,the bag seem to be a bit womanish.

I bought a used AW back pack on ebay about 3 years ago for my area 51 m7700-17 inch. Its heavy also. And there is still plenty of room and lots of other storage space. It should easily fit a m18x. And also very well padded and is very heavy duty. Has good strong shoulder straps.

Based on the specs indicated, it seems it would be a tight fit for the M18x, especially the height... may not work, but would need to try it to know for sure.
-
Well I've been looking around for backpacks because from the looks of it this m18x dreadnought has made all my bags obsolete.
This bag from the measurements look like it'll fit:

17.75" x 13.5" x 2.5"

Opinions? -
I've ordered a Slappa Kiken shoulder bag, will post back on how it fits once it gets here.

Added to the list of "should fit"... -

"Womanish" is that like manscaping and metrosexual? That bag would make a great manccessory!
The bag reminds me of these old bowling bags my father had stored in the garage.
