    Dear Anentropik, maybe you can add to the list a much, much, much better (and transparent) manufacturing & pre-sell/packaging testing QC (Quality Control) to avoid so many machines that do not work as expected (pay for) "right-out-of-the-box"?
    Thanks for considering this.

    Yes I was thinking about this, and now I add it in the Software & Services section:
    1) Much better (and transparent) manufacturing & pre-sell/packaging testing QC (Quality Control)

    Hello guys, I would like to have THUNDERBOLT (light peak). It wouldn't be neccesary to add any port to the case, just update the old Display Port to THUNDERBOLT.

    Hmmm.... Thunderbolt sounds interesting. I hadn't heard of it before, most likely because it is primarily used in Apple computers, of which I have absolutely zero interest. Knowing it's an Intel technology, I'm far more receptive. And, after reading about it on wikipedia, the technology does seem like it could be put to very good use in a PC platform if enough peripherals are developed to support it.

    By the way, welcome to the NBR Forum, wacamole. We're glad you joined us. As soon as your membership allows, please add a signature to let us know about your system. +1 rep for your recommendation on Thunderbolt and as a welcome gift.

    And, I cannot resist mentioning that your forum handle is the phonetic equivalent of my favorite food in the whole world, LOL. :) I think I could survive on nothing but guacamole for the rest of my life.

    I would like in the M18x-R2 a little LCD like the Dell M1730 and the G15 or G19.

    [IMG]

    this will be amazing to see the température in game without doing an alt+tab or to see the process during game etc etc

    Hello,
    I think there is no place in the m18x, as there are Heatthink of CPU/GPU.

    A small question to our learned men of NBR, what is the cost of energy for this kind of gadget?

    For me, I do not want to have a small screen on the m18x, but if it is an option so I see no impropriety. Perhaps a little USB screen that we can plug when we need it ?

    Other Have an opinion on the subject?

    I used to be an XPS M1730 owner. The small LCD would fit well in the power and media button strip on the left side. Whether this would be a welcomed feature is user preference. It was not something I was overly impressed with, but it was an OK feature. I've never missed not having it. Some folks were really impressed by it.

    What about a Docking Station for the M18x? Maybe even merged with a Laptop/DesktopReplacement cooler? That can be a great product almost every 'Alien' out here would like to have... since @home and @ office we use to have many external devices to be connected... and doing this every morning and then again every evening is annoying and time consuming...

    Hey Delliens! It also can be very profitable... ;-)

    EDIT: Sorry, it was already included... I'm getting too old... or my eyes and mind too antique...

    Hi Mr. Fox, thanks for the warm welcome! I've been following this forum for long but never post anything... I was looking forward to buy an m18x but I didn't do it mainly because of the display they put in it... we want more!! :)
    Anentropik, THUNDERBOLT is a new promissing Intel connector that uses optical technology and is supposed to replace USB, HDMI and Firewire. It's the reason why Intel delayed USB 3.0 support in their chipsets... Apparently, now that Thunderbolt is on the market (apple first) it would be implemented in the next intel chipset generation along with USB 3.0. The connector is physically the same as Display Port, and anything that works with Display Port is compatible with THUNDERBOLT.

    Main features:
    10 Gb/s on 3 meters copper cable (possibly to be developped up to 100 Gb/s optical cables? dunno)
    Bidirectional data transfer
    Multi protocol
    Simultaneous connection to different devices
    Hot swap

    Intel's Thunderbolt Technology in Action - YouTube

    Yes, we definitely want that!

    I'll get my m18x when Dell update it with Ivy Bridge (guess mid 2012) and I hope they already have new display options by then...
    At this time I have a very old Clevo that I am ashamed to talk about...
    Cheers!

    A docking station is already in the list, but it's great that you show us you want it ;)

    @K-nabeesse
    I wait for other opinions but tomorrow if there no cons opinion, I will add it to the list

    @Bill_b
    Have you some knowledge about this point : (DEll is working on it ?)
    1) Optimus and/or iGPU/GPU 's(SLI or CF) switch without reboot pain

    @wacamole
    Thank you for the great explanation ! Ok that's a great idea ! I add it !
    --> 8) THUNDERBOLT port replacing the display port

    @ALL
    I have another idea, I think for the Oc'ers that we are that it could be great to have a more powerfull PSU with a minimum of 400Watts, no ?

    i see one thing not on that list that needs to be.
    we need system wide fan control!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    high/medium/low and fan profiles. would like to be able to control them separately if at all possible.

    hummm, yes...a usb version of the lcd mini screen for diagnostic stuff:
    cpu speed and temp(all 5 sensors)
    memory speed and temp
    gpu/igpu memory, core speed and temp
    ambient temps
    throttling

    this can also be a mini plug off the back of the laptop as well.

    I summaries
    1) Total fan contrôl
    2) An USB pluggable mini LCD screen to watch all speeds/temps for (RAM, GPU, IGPU, CPU, HDD, SDD, ...)

    I wait that K-nabeesse tell us if he's ok for an USB version

    You mean a USb version (external) or like the M1730 plugged in the Keyboard like this for the m18x ....
    [IMG]

    Yes like that and if possible like the logitech game panel, the statistique of the game you're paying like BC2 or a MMORPG....

    Yes I mean an external part, but not a full keyboard, just the little screen.

    IMO, I dont like to have an integrated screen that give me too much light at the wrong position

    about as boring as hooking up a Alienware TactX.

    and no on gaming info on the on board or external version of this.

    way to many people will chime in to express their hate since it wont carry every game on the planets stats or whatever else one can dream up.

    Well it is precisely because the opinions are divided that I had proposed a version of USB, or optional.

    Like all of us here, I find unbearable to have to lug around me tons of material in addition to the laptop, but honestly do you need all the time to know your temperature, speed and memory? I mean we do not need this USB LCD screen every time we move, it must be used in the process of OC and from time to time to control.

    Rhhhaaa I do not know what I should add to the first post of this thread.

    That?
    A small LCD screen to view all temperatures, speeds and memory (GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD,...), integrated or external USB version.

    me...when benching. yes..when not benching...no.
    but now all these gamers running around talking about A"what is you temp" in just about every thread on here...might be in a different category.

    usb version would mean that once it's perfected..it could be used on all laptops versu just the m18x r2 with a small lcd screen.

    but in the end...it's just a thought.

    my main concern is fan control. which isn't on the list in red.

    2º A space ship
    3º The little lcd screen with temps and core usage and all that was nice, but embeded in the laptop...
    4º A screen cleaner.

    Team - a word of caution as we are having fun. The Brass at Dell/Alienware knows about this thread and are looking for real input, so let's not stray too far into left field.

    While you are on-topic with what you want, somehow I think the items in newest the wish list are going to be tough for them to deliver, and the one forgotten item will simply be far too expensive. :)

    side note:
    make having "all copper heat sinks" for the gpu as well...as much money that is being spent..we should have all copper. aluminum heat sinks are 1/3 of the problem. everyone knows nvidia runs hotter.( so these cards should come standard with all copper)(wouldn't hurt for amd to run all copper either.)....need to post that in another thread... :)

    Personally,I find myself disagreeing with many of these suggestions.

    The M18 DRP is fundermentally a PC gaming station. As such it would benefit from modifications that help it excel in this capacity. That is to have a better screen, first and foremost. I dont really care about lights, cd's, or tea makers.

    I have to strongly agree there has to be an all copper heatsink especially given the price a brand new build costs. Its not going to make a lot of difference to have all copper heatsink to the overall costs when they mass produce it.

    Its not worth it cutting corners there.

    Another perspective is to say if I do not need it, does it bother me?

    For example, I need an integrated fingerprint reader, I currently have one and I can not do without it, it's so convenient!
    If you don't need it, does it bother you if there is one?

    But I am always very interested in the views of others so feel free to detail what you would see in the m18x R2.

    @mhardridas
    Are you really sure that it produce a significant difference, I mean if it give us only 1 or 2 degrees useful only for Hard OC, we perhaps could bypass it ?

    Its a huge difference, copper can hold more heat and also distribute it much quickly than Aluminum or steel based cooling.

    The only drawback being its easy to spoil an all copper heatsink if you are not careful.

    Over the current setup? Easily 10 degrees cooler and in the worst case it will be 5 degrees cooler.

    @mharidas
    Are xou ok with that :
    7) 2, 3 or 4 all copper heatsink option for the CPU & GPU

    [EDIT]
    And what you think about the need of a more powerfull PSU and thinner if possible ?
