I totally aggreed with that, but why not 50 dollars over the price of the 6970crossfire, cause thats about how much extra performance it will bring, worth of 50 dollars.

Nvidia is screewing ppl over, ppl that want to be screwed.

Must say, I am looking forward, to those of you who actually choose to drop $1200 on these babies, posting up some figures. Will be a few weeks I imagine before the first "new batch" of Alienware "Eliteness" will land....I really am hoping, for you guys that choose 'em, that they show a dramatic improvement over and above the performance of the current kings (6970's) . I will say again that im not a fan of either manufacturer so I wanna keep my "neutrality" here intact....

I really hope that they live up to expectations - saying that, if they dont, at least you will be happy with Nvidia under the hood and a much lighter wallet, eh? lol ;)

The performance of the dual 6970M is equal to the performance of a single desktop GTX 560-Ti, while the performance of a single GTX 580M is somewhere between the GTX 560(Non Ti) and the GTX 560-Ti version.

I still can't believe they don't offer a 3D screen for this config and this price. Ridiculous. I see no reason to still not go with the crossfire. Still need to see more benchmark tests, but so far not impressed for that price even though price is not really an issue for me.

I am a pacient man, I will wait 1 year, and will get a refurbished M18x with SLI GTX 580M for mmmm US$ 2000... With my current laptop I can still play most of the games very well... So there is no actually a real "need" for me.

And guys, if you want the best.... and have the money.. do it! .. Anyway I am really happy that Alienware have the best Nvidia solution available again :) .. always Nvidia > AMD in performance.

What is there to lol about? Nvidia quite clearly stated here that 580m w/ 3D capability is to be expected on Clevo laptops, and surprisingly, not on Alienware, hence my question.

Always take those kinds of announcements with a huge grain of salt. It takes a long way from potential capabilities of the cards to being fully implemented in a laptop. Clevo announced 3D for the X7200 almost a year ago and still nothing. There is a lot of R&D work involved to take care of all possible stability issues.

But I lol, because 3D is still a huge gimmick and has yet to evolve. One thing is watching 3D movies in cinema or on a 100" tv, another, spending hours and hours of gaming sessions 10" from a 3D screen.

But I'm not here to convince anyone what to buy and why, if you wish you can grab a Sager NP81703D with 485M and be happy :)

For the record: Dell HK charges HKD47294 for upgrading from GTX 460 SLi to GTX 580 SLi,which is approximately USD6063.On M17x,you need 5029USD to upgrade from 6870 to GTX 580.

    Reasonable,right? :D

You could have ordered from a reseller ;) and saved over 50% even with shipping and taxes. You'd also keep the warranty, as it's international. It's not too late to cancel and reorder, BTW. If you wish, I could check the pricing for your config through our channel :)

My rep told me something very interesting yesterday, if you had some part on your build and they discontinue it (EOL) the system automatically cancels it because it can't make it now.

You can make another system just like the one you built, throw it in your saved cart and keep your eye on it, if your cart gives you a warning "no longer exists" then something on the build changed and it might give you a heads up that your order is about to cancel on you........... it can be something very simple like changing a part number to cancelling the part all together.

I do believe that Dell could stream line the order process and get a better idea on the stock they have and if you order it, you should be able to expect them to deliver it and not keep cancelling orders all the time. Its a good way to tick off your customers for sure by cancelling on them.

Maybe similar to how they have medical tours where you get surgery or whatever outside the US for cheaper, they should start having US technology shopping tours for HK, NZ, EU, Japan to come here and buy up the stuff for US prices.

Actually I am not ordering directly from Dell, but a friend is in NZ and ordering through a reseller so will see what sort of discount I can get. US$10K for a laptop is insane! To be honest I don't really care about the $ but my last Dell XPS1730 fried its GPU every 3 months, I don't want any of that BS this time. I'm from New Zealand but live in Thailand, the Dell customer service here is, er, well you might as well bash yourself in the head with a large mallet.

Crazy stuff. Luckily I moved to the US, otherwise a system with same configs and warranty as the one I own, but bought in Italy today would have cost me the unaffordable price of $7,500. Even taking in account the currency change, overseas AW's prices are simply outrageous.

There is no possible way the 580 SLI is worth 880 bucks more than then ATI cards in Xfire...When I see stuff like that it reminds me of 7-8 years ago when everyone was willing to spend $1500 bucks on 2 gfx cards that are now worth $20 bucks each on ebay.

    You couldn't be more wrong.

More like a single 6970m is very close to a GTX 560ti. 580m is basically the same as the 560ti.
