I swapped my m18r2 video card to 1070, but hdmi output only has 1080p, doesn’t support 2k or higher, is there a way to upgrade the hdmi output? My VR helmet only supports hdmi output, but its resolution is 2160*1200, the helmet doesn’t work
-
-
No, but displayport is version 1.2, you can use DP -> HDMI 2.0 adapter to support 4k.Arrrrbol likes this.
-
Actually, I used active DP to HDMI 2.0, but VR helmet does not support DP to HDMI signal. One chip is PTN3460 eDP to LVDS bridge. Can we use this chip to bridge EDP and LVDS screen so that we can directly use the signal of independent video card?
-
what? of course it supports DP to HDMI.
https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-DP1-2-DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter/dp/B013G4EXMM
get this and it should work. -
I am in China, I have bought a adapter like this, and I have bought an active adapter and a passive adapter, but the VR helmet does not support, can not light, contacted the manufacturer, they said that they do not support the DP to HDMI signal.

Has anyone ever tried this chip? Can it bridge the EDP and LVDS directly to use the independent graphics card signal? -
What? as far as I know display port only has DP signals and is connected direcly to the NVIDIA card. It is not LVDS.
You're using oculus right? -
It's not oculus. It's a brand in China called ANTVR.Are you sure that the DP signal comes from NVIDIA card? Actually, after I changed the 1070 graphics card, the DP output signal can't directly output the resolution of 3440*1440. I need to manually add the resolution in the Intel integrated graphics card settings panel, and the refresh rate can only reach 54 hz.
-
You are using a 1070? Then you are limited to DP 1.1 because of nVidia Optimus.
-
linited to Dp 1.1?Omg,Is there any way to change the mode of output, such as using chip to bridge the EDP and LVDS screens, so that independent graphics cards can work independently to output signals?
-
Only way to get mDP 1.2 is to run in PEG mode which only works on 980M and older cards unfortunately.
-
I find that m18 can work well in PEG mode by 1070, although we must use another displayer .This maybe give you some light.

how did u do that ,Is there any requirement for external monitors and wires?Your monitor is lenovo, are u in china?

You can run without the built in lcd screen ? How is that possible ?

Yes please tell us I am curious about this too lol.
If it were possible to modify the BIOS to default to HDMI/mDP (even with internal display connected) when those ports are plugged in , it would be great.Rotary Heart and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this. -
Yes, i am chinese and live in china.I connect the m18 and monitor (Lenovo) though hdmi. Then i switch video mode into PEG in Bios.
Besides,i can use two monitors in SG mode.

haha,it is possible.

I just flash the unlocked a12 BIOS.Then switch video mode into PEG. And the laptop will reach higher score in cpu test software.

Can you show a picture of the external screen showing the device manager of the card in PEG so I can see and believe it for myself.
As for not connecting the lcd screen , it does not beep at all on boot up? -
well done.i'm chinese too,do u have qq or other contact way,can I contact you for consultation?i'm using A11 unlock bios and i'm m18xr2,so i'm not sure i can do this like u,if i change the mode to PEG,If I fail to succeed in PEG mode, can the computer restart? Will it be black screen?
-
He is using PEG mode to display to external display, which is fine. He uses SG mode for multiple monitors, like he has in the pic. PEG + built in display not possible, there are no alternative facts to this lolssj92 and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this.

I know about that. What I’m interested is how he don’t have the lcd attached to the laptop while using external monitor. Doesn’t the bios look for internal display before even booting? Usually it would beep if you don’t have internal display connected. -

I thought that just like you before I had done. The picture can't explain it unless a video.Actually, i already take build in lcd into laptop.

If this is proven without having to have an internal display connected , the laptop could be modified to run off external lcd via do/hdmi and modify it to be a part of the laptop to run PEG. I would love to do this lol ...

I'm thinking that in PEG even though the 1070 cannot drive the LVDS screen, it will still read and talk to the LVDS monitor over the SMBus interface and report to the system bios that it does have a screen. I know that when I first tried driving an eDP screen with the iGPU on my P150EM that the eDP screen's EDID flash was being read by the iGPU despite the iGPU failing to drive the screen. Simply reading any internal monitor at all may be all the pointless bios boot blocking code needs (why would Dell implement a check that bricks a computer pointlessly?) to not block boot.
I'm also thinking that if you have the motherboard schematic, you can set the system to SG mode, but modify the mux to always connect to the dGPU except for LVDS. It should be as simple as changing one single signal on the mux. On my system I switched the internal eDP to be driven by the dGPU, but the iGPU still controls all external ports. It works fine doing this as long as I always install Nvidia drivers through the desktop .inf file instead of the Clevo one.Last edited: Nov 12, 2018ssj92 and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this. -
ok,I will try it when i back to home.
Do need i put off my build in monitor?

Can i overclock my LVDS monitor in M18r3? I try it but it will back to 60hz after 1second .

You can with PEG running a 900 series or older GPU. You cannot on SG using the integrated graphics.

So does the M18xR2 support PEG mode then if we connect HDMI or mDP by disconnecting the internal display or leaving it connected? @Rengsey R. H. Jr. @Raidriar
-
I have no idea, I've never been in a situation where I needed to test that. I do not have a pascal card to testssj92 likes this.

i I failed. After I tune into PEG mode, black screen and eight sound. Is there any way to reset BIOS?
-
haha. This is the video. Forgive my bad English speaking.

Thank you for video, looks like PEG only work with HDMI out + no LVDS display. Internal display work only SG mode

Looks like it works on external displays.
@Raidriar is there anything in the m18x bios that would allow the machine to use peg on hdmi even if internal display is connected?Rengsey R. H. Jr. likes this. -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Just came across my mind.
Since the AW 18 can do PEG via external display , could it run the gtx 1070 in SLI ? -
Yes it can by that logic. Did you ever get to try this with M18xR2?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I didn’t get a chance to try it in PEG , if I did , I never plugged in an external monitor . I don’t have any 10 series card except the 1080 .. ( sadly won’t fit )
-
@jasonpoker Did you try PEG mode with internal display removed and only connected through HDMI to external monitor?
If so , was that when you got the beeps?
I may be getting an XM CPU soon so I'll rip apart my M18x and test this for science.
The question is...if I do get the beeps, how should I proceed to restore functionality? @Rengsey R. H. Jr. @Raidriar -
short CMOS battery or blind flash my bios to reset to iGPUssj92 likes this.
-
If someone can share a motherboard schematic I believe I can find a way to get iGPU to run LVDS and dGPU to run external ports at the same time.
There are probably resistor straps to hard set the muxes so they can be switched around in hybrid dGPU/iGPU configurations.aaronne, ssj92 and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this. -

Mastermind5200 Notebook Virtuoso
I'm getting my own M18X R2 soon, and have no use for the internal screen (it's damaged and also only 60hz) so I would be interested in trying to boot without the internal screen. On my M6700, I can hit the power button and close the lid swiftly, and the boot logo and such is on the external monitor instead of it being blank. It also doesn't show the internal monitor with the lid closed but I assume this is standard. I would also be interested in 1070 SLI, and do plan to get some cards for my P377SMA, so if I when I do that I can try it out on the M18

yes ,i did it.but it's not work and 8beeps.u can try to short CMOS battery or blind flash bios.but I did not succeed,i don't know why,and my graphics card burned
Wish you successLast edited by a moderator: Nov 21, 2018 -
Thought of a stupid idea. So if @Khenglish does find a way to modify the MUX to make the dGPU always run on external ports...
What if we used a HDMI cable, to connect the HDMI OUT from the laptop to the HDMI IN of the laptop. Would that work? LOL
Feel like the iGPU coming into play might ruin things.Rengsey R. H. Jr. likes this. -
Thanks. After taking a look, Dell does not put jumpers everywhere on control signals like Clevo does so that signals can be isolated. It will be necessary to either cut traces or lift mux pins to get mixed iGPU and dGPU.
I'll post in more detail soon.
m18xr2 hdmi output can't up to 2k
