As many of you probably know from other posts I have a Area 51 M17x running dual 9800m Gt SLI. The system still runs great and can run many modern games maxed out still: far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, Fall out etc. But I want to "future proof" it soon to keep it relevant a little longer.

Was the 9800m gtx made available in MXM 2.1??? Is this a viable option for my machine? Id like to jump up to SLI with two 1gig cards to replace the 512 9800m gt.

They do, but you'll need deep pockets @ $725 each. Nvidia GeForce 9800m GTX

It would also run hotter and may overheat.

    9800m GT TDP: 65 watt times two= 130 watt

    9800m GTX TDP: 75 watt times two= 150 watt

Thank you joker, yeah I saw that add on the bay, what the heck???? I can get a gtx 280 on the bay for almost half. But I cant run the 280 sli because the slave card is a MXM hybrid, whatever that means.

You really should just accept that it isnt economical to upgrade this now unsupported system ;)
Your much better off saving your money for a new system when you need it.

Yeah I know, sad reality I guess, I just dont like the case of the new M17x as much and I like the origianl and I like the fact that my Area 51 M17x is a no kidding all AW not a DELL product. BUT if the current gen or next gen m17x come out with 480m SLI than I might have to step up again.
