    I've been searching this forum and Google and I can't find a definitive answer on whether I can enable AHCI on a Alienware M17 laptop.

    you need to enable raid to have ahci

    enabeling raid but not creating an array will switch the m17 to ahci note this need to be done befor instaling windows
