I want to add 16 GB of RAM to my machine. Right now I already have 16 GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz but do not know if it is 2X8 or 4X4. Question I have is how do I tell what to get & what is on there now? And does it matter which manufacturer I get it from? (Kingston etc) Thanks

This is the legacy laptop forum, you will get better replies in the desktop forum.

Question though, what game or software are you using that is maxing out your 16GB of ram? I have an i7 Desktop with 12GB and when I Alt-Ctrl-Del to bring up the Task Manager, Windows always shows 1-3GB of memory in the "free" category. Free memory is wasted memory.

Thanks for replying. I will check and see where RAM usage stands. For now, I'm not gonna upgrade.

Was there some game or software that was lagging for you? 16GB seems like a good amount for most users. If it's a game what are you using to measure performance and what are you running for a CPU / video card?
