I followed another thread here and installed all of the drivers on Win 7 64 bit. I’m not sure what happens but AlienFX will not work. It errors when I start and has a null pointer exception, which I googled and all of those threads never got a response :)

the weird part is that the alienfx icon works to disable all the lights and I restart the lights are back. When I try to open the editor it says that the object reference does not point to an object.

I checked the registry and AlienFX says the model is a M17X. The CC installer I downloaded from here said M15X_M17x CC installer, so I wonder if this is registering the M15X as an M17X so the AlienFX doesn’t work. Changing the registry to M15X doesn’t do anything. Tried restarting and reformatting 5 times and get the same issue.

Also tried the Windows 10 LTSB trick and the odd part is that the same installer has a drop down when you install for machine type and it says M17X-Ripley. When I installed CC and restarted Win 10 the machine starts but then the screen is just black. Guessing it’s an issue with 8800M GTX. About to call it quits and just use Linux mint and say GG to FX, but thought I’d ask here. Thanks!

Did someone swap the motherboard from a M17 into your M15x? I thought one was larger but may be wrong.

You can try the CC from the drivers I shared some time back: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-area-51-m15x-r1-working-drivers.805105/

There is also a specific install order most followed: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/help-with-new-m15x.492865/
