Okay i have A problem with my m17 laptop. I been actively using it since july 2009 and have a window 7 os.

Back in april 2011 i upgraded my 2gb ram with 8 gb .. Worked perfectly still..

However just 3 days ago my screen broke (17 inch - 1400x9w/e) and i bought a new one from ztronics (1900x1200 this time) which i got today. During those 3 days without it i was using my laptop fine with and external monitor while the broken was disconnected.

Today i turned off my laptop, took the battery out. Amd replaced the broken monitor with the new one... As i was placing the screws back into the screenplate (everything connected as for monitor wires) my laptop randomly tunrs on... The powe button glows white and the fan is going wild... Remember the battery and ac are not even plugged.

I couldnt stop this until i plugged in the battery and took it out ...

I then finished up screwing my monitor in place and proceeded to reconnect my battery and ac adapter... It doesnt work.

If i plug in the ac alone, it turns on for 2-3 milisecs as blue... If battery only its red and still 2-3.

I tried draining the power for seconds first then minutes and nothing worked.
I opened my laptop and cleaned and checked everything and still nothing...same 2-3 miliseconds.

I even tried removing the monitor again...same issue with old...

This is ridicoulous. Im now finding and asking help on my mobile phone for the last 7 hrs... Its so convienent that the hour i start replacing my monitor this bs happens...

    Any help will be apprecited.
    Any fixes will be loved.

I dont want to lose 120gb of very important data over this bs or spend hundreds fixing an outdated (once reliable until few hrs ago) laptop.

Keep in mind im on my mobile.

Im going to try no monitor again. I dont think my laptop is getting enough power to run a higher resolution monitor... Just a guess.

I remember when i installed tje new ram, it wasnt properly fitted the first time around so the laptop refused to start...

If it is a power issue; where can i find an upgrade to this shthole power brick...?

Its def a power issue... Only thing i get to see is the laptop plugged in led light... It seems its not getting enough juice to run... Which is strange because it was working perfectly fine prior to tje new monitor...

How come no one is offering their 2 cents...seemed like an active forum...

    nothing shows up.

Only sign of activity is if I plug in the AC adapter or the battery.

The Blue light turns on for a split second, a tiny faint click is heard (like when the computer starts up--hence why I cleaned the fans and stuff)...then goes off and only the notification light that the AC Adapter is plugged in is shown.

If I connect the battery only, the battery light (red) shows for a split second then is gone for good.

If I slowly push the adapter in (without the battery); the other lights show up momentarily until I push the adapter all the way in.

Nothing ever shows up on the screen (no matter which screen I try).

how did you figure that out, and what can be done at this point?
(can a new monitor with higher resolution really cause that much damage when the computer had no source of consistent poweR?)

if buying a replacement mobo is out of the question, is there a way I can salvage the saved data on my hardrive and send it to another laptop?

is the harddrive compatible with the M17x ?

    Another thing:
Can I use this new 17 inch montior on an m17x?

    The resolution is 1900x1200

But the m17x says 1900x1028... still 17inch nonetheless, right?

Update: with some masking tape and a thin wire, i was able to keep the battery light on for over 5 minutes now and counting.

I did this for 45 seconds prior by holding it and then by positioning the battery in another way was able to get the fans and cd drive running for about 10 seconds.

As for now , i created a makeshift leverage to hold the battery in the laptop for maybe all night (so far so good). From the looks of it: it seems the battery is charging... And given the 10 seconds the fans/cd drive ran--maybe this can be promising...

Not giving up hope yet! If it doesnt turn out well= i hope i get some answers from my last reply^^

(now at 10min mark--gonna check it every few hrs if i can)

Odd thing happened today... I havent bothered with my m17 for almost a week now, but was curious... So i plugged it in and to my surprise the yellow light appeared without me having to play with the battery or the ac adapter positioning...

I have already ordered a new system(m17x r3 completely defaulted), but if this turns into anything... I can dual box without vm! xD

Anyway, its likely to turn into nothing but i thought id sorta say it for reference
