I have an alienware m5550, The computer started and I was getting a video driver error. The video card is nvidia 7600 go 256mb. I could start the computer in safe mode and it works. So I unistalled the graphic cards driver and the computer starts but looks like it's in safe mode. I tried to install the driver and the system shuts down after the alien symbol comes on. What can the problem be, the graphics card is bad or is there a driver issue?

Hello and welcome to NBR, Benzzino.

Drivers are loaded only after the OS, windows in this case, is loaded.
So if your laptop turns off before that, you may have other issues. Try reseating the card, see if it's not a thermal shutdown (GPU temperatures are high).

I tried to reseat the video card and reload the driver and as soon as the driver is installed, computer shuts down on an error. The os loads and as soon as the desktop appears it restarts. The only way to keep it on is to run in safe mode and uninstall the graphics driver.

I just took it to a computer repair shop an they just told today that I need a new graphics card. I think I am gonna try that.

I don't know if the m5550 has the same driver issues as the m15x but in our case, we can't go above a certain version of the drivers otherwise we get errors and such.

I'm sure someone here on the forums has posted a list of drivers for the m5550, try the one from there.
