My area 51 m9750 glitches the other night and the screen froze with messy artifacts here and there. On rebooting I now get a black screen.

The machine will boot to login, plays the correct noises, and will accept a password and boot through to windows 7, but does it all with a completely blank screen. The backlighting is visible, but there is nothing displayed, even at initial turn on.

I have tried an external display to no avail, too.

I have twin nvidia 8700m gt cards in SLi; is one or both of them dead?

Any tips, fixes, thoughts, workarounds? Should I source some off the bay and have them refitted, or just buy a new machine?

    Help, please?

    Thanks,

    Clean.

Hello, Clean, I would try to remove the secondary card and see what happens.
It's highly unlikely that both of your cards are dead at the same time.

same thing has just happened to me, is it alright to "bake" the card so the connections resettle?

Either use the one good card or get an ati card like the 3870. From my experience baking is only a temporary solution, just like the RROD Xbox 360's, your problem will most likely return.
