So after I finish playing a game, where the temperatures exceed 60C, the system cools down to about 45C, and then stays around that range. But the fan stays on. How do I get it to slow down after a certain temperature is reached?
MORE: If I put the system on sleep mode, then turn it back on, the fan does not turn on. However the temperatures remain at around 45C.
Is there any way to fix this?

See if resetting the EC will fix this.
-unplug system battery and power cord
-unplug the coincell CMOS battery
-hold down the power button for 1 minute
-put everything back together and redo your BIOS settings (time, date etc..) -
any other ideas? not sure if it really worked.
to do the EC reset, do I have to unplug the CMOS battery, and then power on the system for one minute? or do I just leave the system with no power, and hold the button for one minute? -

The laptop won't power on with no power cord or battery.
The coincell battery is what saves the settings in BIOS as they were when your laptop's battery has drained and it's not connected to an outlet so yes it has to be removed otherwise the process will be useless.
So, pressing the power button after you've completed the previous steps will drain all power from your laptop and this way the settings are reverted to their initial state. -
but I never changed any settings with the fan or video card, so how would this process revert any settings back to normal if they were never changed?

Not you, sometimes some values get corrupted and resetting the CMOS will fix this.

I think it may have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.
But now I have another question. How can I overclock the card? I just want to get it up to its default clocks and possibly just a little higher. When I download any of the overclocking utilities, I can't seem to get them to work with my card.
The default clocks are higher than the current clocks. In GPU-Z, it shows the card as a Mobility HD Radeon 3870 X2.
Any ideas? -
bump! please reply someone.
