    Hello everybody,

is anyone able to play BF3 on her/his m15x ?
I am always stuck on the game starter, with the message that my 186.03 drivers are to old, i should upgrade to the 285.xx .

Due to the fact that Nvidia/AW do not support the switchable graphics on the m15x anymore, i am not able to upgrade the video drivers to the 285 or 295 they can not be installed - blue screen of death.

Has anyone a workaround to play the game ?

There was in another chap in the dell M15x BF3 thread ,a Coltrane from Austria who knew something, please respond.

    Thanks a lot...

My Area 51 m15x, T9300 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 8800GTX with 186.03 drivers, crucial 128 GB SSD, 2nd lid and repaired hinges, Win 7...

Unfortunately, there are no up-to-date nvidia drivers for the m15x. I am not aware of any workaround sorry.

It might be a good idea to switch to a Radeon 3870 if your 8800 dies; for driver support.

    to 3dfxvoodoo...

I tried it with the 295, 285 and some 259 drivers from the Nvidia page but i was not able to install the drivers properly. The Nvidia installer tool shows drivers installed but no d3d device is initialised means no directx d3d gaming.
It is not working with the ususal install !

The system is an "old" Area51 m15x not some newer M15x from Dell.

If anyone has an idea i would greatly appreciate a solution otherwise i have thrown 35 Euro out of the window.

Everything else Assasins Creed, European escalation and so on is working perfectly...

    Thanks for Ideas,

    Chris

use this page and pick the driver for your card and os
    use the mobile driver
    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

strange it works with my Area51 m15x both with 7 and Linux out of the box

Guys Im sorry to tell you but you will not get anything latter than 185.xx drivers to work on the pre dell M15x. There is an issue with the integrated graphics card and the new drivers. It is WELL document on this site and accross the net. My advice, pic up a Area 51 M17x chassis and transfer all your stuff to it. It will be plug and play should cost less than 200 us and you will be able to use the newest drivers due to no integrated graphics and you will have a bigger screen and full size keyboard.

Couldn't they also throw in a ATI 3870, update to the latest drivers, and be good?

Yes you could. It would be a little lower performance but you would be able to play the latest games on low to med settings....

    Thanks for the help...

I feared that with the 8800 GTX there is no other solution as to stick with the Forceware 185.91 drivers -what a shame a really good card with the 1440 x 900 resolution.

2 weeks ago i bought an ATI 3870 MXM 2.1 card but then things changed....

A newer really cheap Dell Alienware M15X came across my sights and so my Pre Dell m15x will have to retire.

Anyone interested in an 3870 with fan and heatsink for an m15x ?

    Cheers,

Battlefield 3 works on my m15x on the old drivers without any problem. I do get the message asking to update drivers, but the game starts as soon as I close the message window. I'm away from the machine today, but will let you guys know the drivers I use.

    Edit: 186.91

Good deal! The m15x-R1 seems to be more trouble than its worth from my own experience.
