Hi my area-51 m15x r1 has a problem please help

so when i'm playing a game the computer will randomly go to black screen,
but sometimes a soundloop will still loop

IE: if a gun shoots right as it black screens the bullet sound will keep looping, but if its a longer lasting sound like backround music it wont keep playing.

the sound does not always loop though, only when the sound loop initiates right as the screen goes black.

Ive also heard that you can somehow use some diagnose thing to find out whats wrong, so how do i do that?

EDIT: i ran dxdiag and it says in the display section:
The file nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer

would this have anything to do with the black screens?

sounds to me like your card is giving up on you...something normal i guess for nvidia.
you might want to try different drivers and just test them to see if problem still persists.

Try Reapplying the thermal paste again just to be on the safe side.. but it does sound like the card is going to get fried.

I am guessing the card is either nvidia 8800m gtx or 9800m gt?

    Peace~

    yeah its a 9800 gt
someone suggested that it black screens from over heating
so we took out my internal fans and took a look, well they are in very very bad shape how would i go about replacing those?

i would doubt the other fans would fit.. uses specific ones to fit..unless frys sells the right size and fit then would not hurt to do it..
