So I'm planning to buy a m17 and the person I'm buying from still has the warranty for 2 years. Is there a way he can transfer that warranty to me or am I SOL ?

yes it can be transferred and you can add on to it.
any dell computer can have even an expired warranty extended to up to five years of the original purchase date of the computer.

if it's a dell m17x it cam have it's warrantie transfered

Depends - if this is a m17 and not an M17x then no, I do not believe so. Need to clarify if this is an AW Legacy system or a Dell/Alienware system.

If its a Dell/Alienware M17x, then the seller/owner will have to initiate a transfer of ownership which can be found HERE

Once this is done, then you (new owner) would then need to look at warranty extension options if you so choose - check HERE.

it is the legacy m17 so I guess the warranty isn't transferable. Ah well I most likely will still pick it up, thank you for your help!!

As it's the legacy M17, no the warranty cannot be transferred, full stop.

There's no need to worry though, it's a very dependable and reliable machine.

I dont think its possible but try calling dell and ask them to change it. Or you can use his details when you call tech support if he agrees.

I most likely will not be able to use his info because I am purchasing it from craigslist. I'm trading him my area-51 m15x :D but thank you all for your help and reassurance that it's a reliable unit.
