Today i made the passage from vista to windows seven, updated drivers to 10.8 but the performance in game is terrible!
    Do somebody know why?

    Seven is Ultimate 32bit

2GB of RAM is really cutting it close for 7, especially if you're gaming. What's your RAM usage while playing a game? 7 uses more RAM than Vista does and your system might be paging onto the HDD.

Errr... isn't it the other way around? I've seen systems with 1 gig that ran 7 smoothly... can't say that much about Vista.

Normally, his performance should at least be on the same level than in Vista.

Have you "updated" your windows or have you done a clean install?

That said, I agree that 2GB is the lower limit for gaming.

You may be right, I've found it to use 0-50MB more on a clean install than Vista did (no difference, really). I read through some articles and it appears they use roughly the same amount, some say 7 uses barely less (50-100MB). In all, most said its negligible, because both OS' cache as much RAM for a smoother experience.

I defiantly agree though, when I switched from Vista to 7 there was almost no difference. Are sure you have all your drivers installed? If you are hitting your RAM limit and your HDD is being used as a page file, consider adding more RAM, it's dirt cheap now.

Also, do you know if Xfire is enabled? Perhaps games are only running on one card, this would probably be the reason for the biggest hit in performance. Also, is your power profile set to 'High Performance?'

Also, keep in mind that if you hit 4GB of ram, you'll have to install Win7 64bit

But Xonar might be right, check your Catalyst, maybe you're running a single card :)

Thanks guys, i've done a clean install.
I know 2 GB of ram are at limit, i will try to buy 4 gb (unfortunately here in Italy everything regarding computers is 10 years old, so the ram is still costy)

Could be the dx 11 instead of 10?
Crossfire should be enabled, from catalyst AI is setted to advanced.

Another question: i added a custom resolution (1680x1050) but when i set it (in game or in explorer) i a have black bars all around and the res doesn't "stretch".

I changed to full screen from CCC but nothing happened.

Any advice? I'm a bit desperate on this, i've tried all the day and gained nothing :(

Well, dx version shouldn't matter, your game will automatically switch to dx10.1 as you don't have dx11 support.

As for the resolution, in the older catalysts, there was a setting (checkbox) which enabled you to use other resolutions with black bars. I'm not sure about the new version but there's a setting about GPU Scaling in the Digital Flat Panel Properties, see if you can change anything (mine's greyed out, I can't test it).

As for RAM prices, try pixmania.com, they are all over Europe and, at least in Belgium, prices are ok :)

Thanks for the internet shop, i'll definitely buy more ram then! (maybe even 8 gb they are very cheap if unbuffered)

Unfortunately i've already tried what you have said about the res, and it didn't work, probably because i edited the registry to add 1680x1050.
I really don't know what to do now :/

I don't think your motherboard will support 8 GB, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that in your case, 4 GB is the maximum...

As for the screen... first of all, why did you add this custom resolution? Maybe you don't need it at all?

As i know the mobo should support 8 gb.

I added this resolution to play the witcher 2 at decent framerate. Even 1440x900 isn't present.

    Hello

Yes it does support 8GB as I have 8GB of crucial DDR 3 in my M17 running perfectly.

My bad, I'll research better next time ;)... fact is that DDR3 is dirt cheap these days, it's the best moment to max your pc out.

As for the Witcher 2, first of all the game should run any resolution you want it to be as long it doesn't surpass you screens (in this case it clearly doesn't), there shouldn't be any need for registry hack...just select the resolution in the games options.

Next, unless you're running the latest patch of the Witcher, you'll have black bars if you don't play in 16/9 aspect ratio. If you do have the latest patch, there's an option to remove them but I don't recall the name.
