Can someone help me?
I am sporting an original m15x with the 8800gtx and windows 7.
When I watch a Blu Ray while plugged in, everything works flawlessly. However, when I try and watch a blu ray on battery I get all kinds of video chop. I have tried maxing out the power settings in the Windows 7 Control Panel, but I have not seen much improvement. Anyone else experience a similar issue and if so, were you able to resolve it?
I also instaled a SSD in the m15x and that reduced the chop but it is still there.
When I run GPU-Z
On the Sensors tab of GPU-Z
When pluged in:
Core clock: 500 MHz
Gpu memory Clock: 799.2
Gpu Shader Clock: 1250.0
Battery:
Core clock: 275 MHz
Gpu memory Clock: 300.2
Gpu Shader Clock: 550.0
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Wow, so it looks like I am the only one after installing windows7 on the M15x to have this problem... Bummer...
-
that is not a problem it's powermizer and your clock doN,t seem abnormal i forced my ati's to go even lower then stock they now run at 200 core 300 mem on idle and baterie and i can watch a bluray flawless at that speed
-
Thanks for the reply.
They why do you think my blu ray play back is choppy when on battery? It is perfect when plugged in...
Thanks again, this problem really bums me out when i try and watch a movie on a plane. I travel for work, so.... -
maybe your card in it self is not powerfull enough to do it on the move has it always been like this maybe it's your driver version or codec that got corupted
tell what driver version you got even if i'm not familiar with nvidia's driver some one else will most likely be able to help you
you could also use an gpu oc software to force the clock to stock but goodbye batterie life
hum if installing the ssd made it work bete ssd,s consume less power then spining drives so it might be because your laptop baterie is getting old and has a hard time to keep the laptop runing such a demand
i recall i could game on the baterie when my m17 was new but now i can surf the web and watch a movie -
Driver version for 8800M GTX is 8.16.11.8681
-
Nothing?
bumming.... -
have you tried the powermizer switch tool to avoid the downclocking?
and which player do you use? -
I have changed the registry as shown in the link with no change to my issue. THe player is Power DVD 9.
-
have you tried the intel gfx?
its difficult to help without a blueray player to test... -
Just want to bump this up to see if anyone has had this issue and if a solution has been found...
Thanks -
Honestly I think it's your resolution, try adjusting the resolution of what you are viewing either the monitor or the player Window keep to the true aspect ratio and a normal HD resolution either 1080 or 720 nothing in between. I use version 10 cyberpower for my blu rays and have no problem. I'm more then certain that it's more of an issue with your player then the actual system.Of course if you're running under stealth Mode that could be a problem so make sure that you are not on Stealth Mode when on BAttery, it might be a setting to naturally undergo stealth mode when on battery which is downclocking your CPU obviously.
-
It certainly seems like something is down clocking when on battery, but I can't pinpoint what....
-
Adjust your powermanagement settings to Performance even while on Battery, that's another thing I can think of.
-
I am still searching for an answer. I have tried all the Power management options I see in Windows. Is there a hidden power management control I do not know about?
Again, the BluRays play perfect when the machine is plugged in, but it seems like I am going to stealth mode when I unplug. I need some help or a new portable blu ray player.... -
It's a BIOS limitation. You'd need someone to reverse engineer the BIOS and then reprogram it.
-
Did you check the power settings in the NVIDIA control panel? I don't have your system, so the options may not match, but I see it under "3D Settings" > "Manage 3D Settings" and then the feature "Power Management Mode" has a choice of "Adaptive" or "Prefer Maximum Performance".
-
Power Management Mode: Available only for the GeForce 9 series and above, this feature makes use of these graphics cards' abilities to support different performance levels depending on how much power is required by a 3D application. The available options here are Adaptive and 'Prefer Maximum Performance'. Adaptive is the default, and when chosen the graphics card automatically steps down in clock speed in 3D applications if they are not drawing much GPU power.
I have an 8800, so I don't have the Power Management Mode option...
This is a real bummer. -
Sorry. I have an 8800M GTX, but that was rebranded as the 9800GT so that may be why I have the option. I also forgot that the m15x can't use the newer NVIDIA drivers because of some motherboard graphics incompatibility.
Another place that has power management options is the Alienware Command Center, but I'm not very familiar with it. -
Still praying for a solution....

No suggestions....???? -
Have you tried this?
